"We visited Dover Marine Hotel yesterday 16th December 2023 for a Christmas lunch. We have visited many times with family for coffees at this Hotel, but never for lunch, so we had no expectations. From the moment we arrived we were treated with courtesy and attentiveness . We were taken to our table which was a lovely crescent shaped banquette and seated. We had a wait of half an hour for our meal in which time we were given fresh French bread, plenty of water and our specified wine and drinks. Our orders taken we were able to take in the atmosphere which was tastefully decorated in the English Christmas tradition with lit Xmas trees. Our starters salmon and peppers and mozzarella were light, finely prepared and the Game Pie was very filling all were delicious. The mains were all traditional roast Turkey which lay almost regally across our plates with its courtiers of Brussel sprouts, carrots, French beans, pigs in blankets and stuffing. Finishing with a home made brownie, superb ice cream and a Dickensian plum pudding. Coffee was offered but declined . Our extended family live abroad so we have made it a yearly event to celebrate with them in spirit at various local eateries and restaurants We all agreed that this lunch was the best not only for its excellent cuisine, but most importantly for its wonderful service. All the staff in the restaurant and throughout the Hotel were impeccable in their manner, in particular our two waiters Paolo was one who served us and nothing was too much trouble. We wish to commend the whole experience."

"I am reluctant to write negative food reviews, but my recent experience of The Royal Hotel was very disappointing and I make this review in the hope the management will see what was not great and perhaps change it. I have been a regular customer of the hotel for many years, as guest, drinker and diner….and for various reasons have not visited for about a year. The last occasion being a breakfast, which was great…. Not cheap, but good quality, well cooked and very tasty. Fancying a treat my wife and I dropped by for breakfast at 1045….. breakfast being served until 11…. The fact it was near to 11 seemed to be a problem when we were told that unless we got the order in very quickly, we would miss out. I had the full breakfast at £11.00 and to be honest was probably the worst cooked breakfast I have had for ages . The main problem was the bacon…..more fat than meat and undercooked, with large sections of the fat only having had a passing acquaintance with the heat. The sausage which appeared to have cooked through had very little colour and did not look at all appetising. The remainder of the meal was okay. My wife wanting a small breakfast was left with very little choice but to have a breakfast bap as there was no facility to order a smaller ‘Full English’ breakfast on the menu. The bap had the same issue with the bacon and the sausage and was presented as a hamburger…..not ideal from our perspective. Why can’t a smaller version of the full breakfast be offered? I have been a regular user of The Royal as it is a great location with friendly staff…but the fare that was offered to my wife and I today was not even close to what we would expect from it."

"Food here had been pretty bad but local gossip rumoured that, with a new chef, it had become very good. Tripadvisor reviews were mixed but we gave it a try yesterday and soon regretted the decision. We had pre booked a table though, as it transpired, there were plenty in the restaurant area. The bar was very busy so it took ten minutes for someone to direct us to our table, a further ten minutes to get a menu and another ten minutes to order. We were warned that there could be an hour 's delay for the food. We wondered how since the restaurant remained largely empty but, having plenty of family gossip to catch up on, ordered some nibbles and drinks and accepted the wait. After another ten minutes, the drinks appeared. After twenty minutes, we asked when the olives would appear (no cooking, after all) and eventually a plate of undercooked doughy 'ciabatta ' (nothing like the real thing) with tiny dish of some sort of oil (not good olive oil) appeared. The new waitress had misunderstood our order but, never mind, we accepted this was a human error. and were hungry enough to tackle the poor food. Time went on...and on...and on. Meanwhile, we were missing all the entertainments on offer for the Sandwich Festival. After considerably longer than the 'hour ', our two seafood platters and one steak arrived. The steak was acceptable, despite the chips not being 'real '. The platters were nothing like those illustrated. Where were the large prawns etc etc? Instead, a poor array of overcold supermarket style freshwater shrimp (tiny and too cold to taste of anything), vinegary mussels and cockles....I could go on you can guess the rest. The accompanying so called 'ciabatta ' had to be sent back as it was so undercooked as to be inedible. You may guess that this place will never see us again except as we walk by to go to the centre of town. What a shame."

"What do I recommend about Orient Noodle Bar? Everything!! We're food snobs it's rare we give a review as we only review if the food is really good (or really disappointing . The food we've had from these guys is well worth reviewing, it's so good! Ive got to be honest, we're lazy so order takeaways to be delivered. Therefore we've not ordered from here since living in Dover (12 years . We didn't realise how good it is! Considering how lazy we are it's a huge thing that, rather than getting takeaways delivered, we now go down to collect from here, each every time! We usually have a range of takeaways over the month (Chinese, Indian, pizza/kebab and, I'm ashamed to say, Kaspers. Don't judge me! They are all ok but were not overly keen on any of them, unlike the Orient Bar which blows them all out the water....I wonder where that phrase comes from. Next thing, check Google! . This month we've had food from here EVERY time, apart from once (pizza . So, the reason we love them is the food is fresh, really fresh. It's cooked well and to order. The veg is perfect (for me as I don't like it overcooked but the veg is always still perfectly crunchy. My husband has the ribs the meat just falls off its so nicely cook. The prawn toasts are crunch as they are meant to be (some takeaways they are slightly soggy . I have dried fried noodles they actually are, whereas some places say dry fried but then are in a sauce. I could go on (and apparently, according to my husband when I read this out to him, I do! Cheeky of it! . The food is cooked in front of you it's amazing to watch him cooking about 15 things at one time as. He looks so chilled out about it all but he has been doing it many many years it shows. The work are is clean tidy. Everyone is friendly polite too. We have just ordered again my husband is on his way to collect it. I cant see us using any other Chinese again unless these guys are shut. I cant believe we've missed out for 12 years!!"
