"Staying in Frascati for New Year we found il Borgo degli Artisti by accident as we were struggling to find a restaurant that didn’t have a fish set menu, which is traditional for New Year in Italy. An Italian friend called the restaurant for us to ascertain if the menu would be predominantly meat and to our relief it was. So we arrived for our reservation and were greeted by Marina, daughter of Owner /Chef Claudio now 80 years young and a passionate rugby player for Roma in years gone by. The restaurant interior was very rustic and the walls were covered by framed rugby jerseys from around the world. Setting the scene for a wonderful New Year’s Eve dinner. The courses started with a delicious soup and crostini, followed by beans and bacon, followed by gnocchi and pasta all washed down with the most delicious of local Frascati white &red wines. All this to be followed by a meat course but unfortunately we had miscalculated the time needed for several course dinner and had made arrangements with Roman friends to meet them at our hotel to see in the new year together. So we missed the next few courses, though have to say the food was so plentiful I’m not sure we could have eaten it all. Marina was distraught we had to leave early before the set meal was finished and even Claudio, the chef came out with a bottle of Prosecco for us to celebrate the New Year before we had to run off. This is not a 5 star restaurant, but if you are looking for 5 star home cooked food that is simply delicious, served by wonderful, friendly, and with a sense of humour, staff then I encourage you to give this restaurant a try. Thank you Claudio, Marina and Gigi you made our New Year’s Eve very special happy New Year and we hope to see you again on our next visit. Fearga, graham, Roland and Barbara."

"It’s so unfortunate that I had to write this review. I really wanted to like this restaurant so much after watching Stanley Tucchi’s HBO’s Max Italy series and reading high reputable reviews like CN Travelers. My partner and I had a reservation at 10 PM the earliest time I could book three weeks ago. When we got there at 9:15 PM, I noticed there were several tables empty. They sat us immediately next to an older Italian couple who seemed to be regulars there. We realized the couple had a dog, mind you not a service dog, with a water pan for it next to the table. The dog once in a while went for my leg. It made me cringed. The dog kept leaping to the owners’ lap for food. What kind of restaurant allows animals inside?! We should have foreseen what’s to come and left. We waited for about ten minutes to waive a waiter to order. We had their l'amatriciana and carbonara. I was expecting simple and light sauces like the reviews noted. The pastas were done beautifully, but the sauces were over killed the flavor. The l’amatriciana was heavy on the tomato sauce and overpowering. The carbonara was extremely heavy on the cheese and fat. We could barely eat our dishes on top of the dog shaking its furry body now and then. The couple was very chatty and ever more when several of the restaurant staff came over to talk to them. They were all trying so hard to over talk the crowd. I could not wait to leave the restaurant! Never in my life at a restaurant had I felt so uncomfortable and somewhat violated by others’ ill manners and management."
