"We ended up here for lunch as the place we had originally chosen for lunch had closed for holidays and this was the nearest place we could find. As you enter the bar area is to your left and the restaurant to your right. In the hallway is a huge tank of live lobsters and also a fish and meat display cabinet. Most of the fish in the cabinet looked tired, it dissuaded us from ordering any fish in-fact. I never understand why restaurants do this, if your fish is not super fresh then don’t display it! I chose salmorejo to start with, which was smooth, silky and full of flavour. For main course I had mushroom risotto croquettes, intense mushroom flavour, moist on the inside crispy on the outside. These came with vegetable crisps for some reason, a bit of salad would have been much nicer. My partner had a generous portion of carrillada but the dish was let down by serving frozen chips with it. For dessert I had mandarin sorbet, which wasn’t really sorbet but more like a slush puppie and my partner had ice-cream with raisins and Pedro Ximenez sherry, it’s the Andalusian version of rum and raisin ice-cream, it was nice but would have benefited from soaking the raisins in the sherry first. It’s a no-frills restaurant doing traditional Andalusian dishes fairly well. The staff are nice, attentive and friendly, my only criticism here was all the dishes erred on the salty side."

"Attached to the NH hotel we stayed in we were reticent to eat here as hotel restaurants, especially those that aspire to be chic , are generally disappointing for so many reasons. After an afternoon session at La Feria de Caballo and a pleasant evening of walking around the city we needed to fortify ourselves for the night session at La Feria, so went downstairs to La Cuchara. The menu provided a good selection of what turned out to be tasty food, We had the tomato salad, flor alcachofa, courgette spirals with bacon and kimuchi vieiras. None were huge portions but were sufficient and only the vieira disappointed and that because there was no evidence of kimuchi rather than because it was a small ration, which it certainly was. The service was efficient, especially given how busy they were and even the most pompous of the waiters was charming and effective in his role. Not sure what sort of establishment this is as the decor was sort of bistro meets minimalist combined with a bit of Spanish traditional and chrome, but that didn 't matter as the food tasted well and was not overly expensive for what it is. I can imagine Spanish people being a bit upset about the prices if they only came here for a drink but to be fair I refer to my original comment re being attached to an hotel. I would be happy to eat here again but it would not be my first choice in Jerez."
