"We’ve eaten at La Bistro a good 20 or 30 times now, and as the title suggests, it’s our favourite restaurant in Leeds, not just Horsforth. For context, we are a family of four with two young kids, aged 10 and 7 at the time of writing. Given that background, the things we tend to look for in a restaurant are good food, a nice environment, solid service, consistency and a tendency to cater well for kids (and for me, that’s not simply about having a kids menu; I’ll come back to that later . La Bistro ticks every single box, every single time. First and foremost, the food here is fantastic. For all of us. Personally, I’m a lover of Mediterranean food, though as much as I do try to mix things up, I struggle to get past the meat platter; it’s delicious. The menu leads with a selection of Turkish dishes, everything from hot and cold mezes to Ottoman style seafood, and this is my personal favourite section of the menu. But there’s a lot more on offer beyond that, including a wide choice of pizzas and pastas, steaks, burgers, plus a smattering of Greek favourites like stifado and moussaka. For this reason, it’s always been a go-to whenever we’ve been looking for somewhere for a big family group. We’ve had tables of around 20 adults and children, some fussier than others, and everyone has gone away happy and full. There is something for everyone, even those with certain food intolerances. Kids can choose from a smaller portion of any pizza or pasta (they’re still generous, btw! , or a selection of other options like chicken nuggets. One final word on the food, the early bird deal (which runs from Sunday to Friday until 5pm, I think! , offers two courses for something like £19 is fantastic value. Whilst I’m partial to a calamari starter, my wife loves the desserts! There’s a good selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. From a personal point of view, I prefer a draft beer as opposed to bottled, however the 500ml bottles of “Efes Draft” are the next best thing. The restaurant itself is modest in size and has a modern, cozy feel. Though the restaurant isn’t massive, there’s ample space between tables, and you don’t feel like you are a top of one another. It’s a nice, relaxing place to be, even when the place is busy. As good as the food is (and it truly is brilliant , what makes this place is the staff. To a person, they are absolutely fantastic. Welcoming, friendly, helpful and attentive. Again, no matter how busy it is. Our young daughter gets on like a house on fire with the owner, who is brilliant with both of our kids. Some time ago, my daughter drew a little sketch of him while at the table; to this day, that picture remains pinned on the wall at the back of the restaurant. Just a lovely touch, that delights our little girl every time we go back. Whenever the kids’ birthdays come around, La Bistro is always the place they ask to go. Not TGIs, not Nando’s, not Five Guys. That in itself speaks volumes, for me. A visit to La Bistro is like a warm hug from family. Every single time, bar none, we’ve walked away having thoroughly enjoyed not just the food, but the whole experience. It is consistently excellent. It’s what eating out as a family should be all about."

"Overall a lovely evening with friends, food lovely, waitresses great. But just a couple of points that niggled me. Used to come a lot here before covid and always used to do “dine in style” as we did this evening. Bread and butter used to be complimentary but now it’s charged for. Don’t get me wrong, I totally understand cost of things have gone up and I was more than happy to pay, but if I was to say “I’d of liked some bread with my butter” would you know what I mean?… 4 mouthfuls of bread, ie 1 per person (as the menu does state, serves 4) was not impressed by that. The 3 courses we had though were spot on… all beautifully presented tasted as good as they looked. Service, as always, very good, waitresses all very happy friendly and extremely attentive. My next point that annoyed me slightly was when we went down to the casino tables. Love a game of roulette, used to be a 25p, 50p £1 table… now all tables were £1… then to be told our £5 chip that we got in our dine in style package couldn’t be changed for £1 chips the £5 had to be played in one go. All for places needing to build money back up after covid, cost of living increases etc… but in all honesty it could potentially do more harm than good. May sound daft after having such a nice evening, but I won’t be as quick to head back, and unfortunately where I used to rave to friends family about how good it was, that will be the thing now, how good it “was” and not “is”…"

"Went here for an impromptu lunch yesterday with my Mum. It 's not a table service restaurant, more so select and order at the bar like a pub however definitely a 'restaurant ' feel to it. The menu I feel would be good for most people although I am not sure about allergies/intolerances. Mexican/American/Italian (burgers, pizza, tacos etc). I am a (mostly) vegan and I 've never felt so 'seen ' as on this menu. Around 50% of choices were vegan. Staff were efficient and friendly. My 'very good value ' title is based on comparing this venue to other similar places as well as those more expensive and cheaper. My pizza was HUGE. I couldn 't finish it (unheard of) my Mum 's 'gyro ' was smaller but perfectly substantial for lunch. Of course with more upmarket places you 'd expect to not get as much but perhaps have it of better quality, however this has often been far from my experience! This venue is in the middle and was great. I do not think vegan pizza is tricky to get right, but from other venues I 've suspected that I am wrong. To me It 's just, 'make a pizza but use vegan cheese and meat subs if they want '. Some venues prefer to not use cheese at all -which is fine at times but still feels a bit like a form of 'othering ' and some offer very little in the way of toppings other than veg-again this may suit some people but for me it was uplifting to be able to just order something 'normal '! This is actually the first time I 've been out for vegan pizza and got something fantastic. My Mum loved her 'gyro ' (I 'd not heard of these) too. Very reasonable for drinks-£3 for half a beer and a sparkling water (which was free). Surroundings were great, rustic but clean and well-cared for. Lovely big venue, loos clean and kept up with, nice atmosphere Will definitely recommend. My only one gripe (which may be more personal) was that the place was quite cold. Not somewhere you 'd want to take layers off BUT, I appreciate it is a huge building with high ceilings and would cost a fortune to heat. And not everyone feels the cold as much as me."

"This restaurant is fairly local and we have driven past it hundreds of times but never actually gone in. I’m not sure why as we usually love going to Italian restaurants but I guess it never looked very exciting from the outside. After seeing so many great reviews though, we decided to visit for lunch on a Saturday and were really looking forward to it as we have not eaten out much during the pandemic. The interior is certainly nothing special and first impressions were that it seemed a little gloomy. There was not much light, although I think a few of the blinds were closed to stop the sun blinding you. The tables are modest and have probably seen better days and the wooden chairs with very straight backs were some of the most uncomfortable chairs I have sat in for a very long time. Not sure if that is to stop you from overstaying your welcome but I did not feel relaxed at all and the tables for 2 are tiny so it felt like everything was going to fall over the edge at any moment. We were greeted and seated quickly as it was very quiet but it did get fairly busy shortly after we arrived and it was clear that there were a lot of regular diners who were familiar with the owners/chefs. Our food arrived quickly and was hot but we had mixed feelings about the taste and it is fair to say that my husband enjoyed it slightly more than I did. The prawns were good, the garlic mushrooms were very stringy and watery and the garlic bread with tomato was pretty awful as it was covered in burnt garlic that left an unpleasant after taste. The lamb was good but the Calzone was chewy and a little bland. From a service perspective, there seemed to be 2 chefs and 1 poor waitress who was running about and struggling to keep up. I’m not sure if they usually only have a single waitress but I think a second person was required to help serve and then prepare bills etc to ensure that a decent level of customer service was maintained. We did find it a little strange that when my husband was offered mint sauce to go with his lamb, a jar of Colmans was just brought and left on the table with no lid and just a bit of mint was in the bottom. We later saw this same jar left by the side of the desk near the till, still with no lid on and it all seemed a bit unhygienic and strange. When you are paying c£20 for a lamb main course, perhaps make some mint up in a small dish and bring it to the table? After our meal, we asked for the bill but as the waitress was so busy, we ended up walking to the main desk to get it and to pay. It was also a little surprising that the bills were done with a pad and pen, prices looked up on the menu and then added up using a calculator this could be described as ‘quaint’ but also very ‘inefficient’. Overall, I think this is a decent place and as the locals seem to go back on a regular basis, it must have something to offer that we did not necessarily see on this first visit. I personally am not in a hurry to go back but my husband did enjoy most of the food and would probably like to give it another go. In order to improve (in my opinion)……..the menu prices are towards the higher end but the food quality, the comfort of the tables/chairs and the general customer service do not seem to be aligned to the price paid. So, some bits I would rank as 2 stars, some as 3 and some as 4 but I settled on a 3 star average rating based upon this visit."

"As is usual for this time of year – time for our annual visit to the Agora on Christmas Eve to enjoy the wonderful fayre this restaurant has to offer. Warmly welcomed on a cold blustery evening and arriving somewhat windswept, we were shown through to our table which was very nicely positioned in the window next to a lovely warm radiator! As is the norm, we ordered a bottle of Cankaya to be followed by starters of Prawn cocktail and Lamb Keftedes. Mains of choice on this occasion were the seabass feta and Adana. Starters suitably delivered they were well presented and nice and hot. My keftedes were smothered in rich tomato sauce were very tasty. Sue’s prawn cocktail was also very good, lots of plump prawns with flavoursome Marie Rose sauce. The bread that was supplied separately was used to good effect to mop up the excess sauce with all dishes left spotless before being returned to the kitchen. A short while later the mains were delivered. The seabass was very good, two fillets stuffed with feta accompanied with potatoes and vegetables. My Adana was also lovely, nice flavoursome kebab on a bed of rice and small side salad. As always both dishes were enjoyed very much with plates left devoid of all that went before. Another very nice meal at The Agora, really lovely friendly hosts with whom we enjoyed chatting very much supported by tasty well presented food that provides a real taste of the Mediterranean. "now it is not every week we visit a michelin star restaurant, so this was a special event and it lived quite a lot up to the expectations. the man behind the curtain, now in the cellar and not in the top floor, was wonderful. it was a Wednesday night, a table and we were two couples. we are not sure, but possibly a cancellation, as we only booked a few weeks in advance and the place was full. the decor is very much, polished concrete walls with, for me to represent an art deco feel. sofas are rich white leather with felts (fake, obvious) and beautiful chairs. we had a round drink, as the taxi took us there a little early. we have the menu. it is a set cup menu and all tabs have the same. this menu gave a look over the dinge to come, drinks, wee etc. we have selected the standard wine pairing, but not the less that is per head. they said they were going really well. not to take the wee we thought would not have given the overall fantastic experience. each cure was wonderfully described by each cook, beautifully presented on plates, in dressed and in boxes. every wein for the cure was well described by sommelier. it was a fantastic experience with aromen that burst out of every dish and every wein with its unique taste pairing beautiful. Not to disable any cursor, but to call some favorites. tuna nigiri, dali after delhi (roy garn), ajo blanco. (some cold consommé with a lot of garlic), black caesar (pork, ei in black dust). Puddings....Tiramisu and a chocolate grenache. a great experience. we were there, so it was there, and we were the last there. just a few points for me. the tables are quite large and the sommelier and chefs have really not brought me the description of the table with background noises and music on the side. secondly, I felt the last hour or so there was a urgency to move us between curs with shorter times. actually we don't get all the wein from the previous cure as we were served for the next. I would recommend a previous booking. a great night outside and one should experience them definitiw"
