"The larger the expectations, the greater the disappointment when these are disrespectful. we find this famous restaurant inside the guide of the solitary planet and from the first day on the island, seen the local celebrity (also referred to by the owner of our holiday home), we decide that we had to go to dinner. we phone the same evening that we set foot to lipari and the first available date is after 5 days, or almost in conjunction with the end of our holiday. we decide to fix this date and organize which dinner would be from the grand finale of our liparota stay. setting our expectations even more on the spot. we arrived the great day, we present ourselves in perfect time and we are immediately greeted in this place that somehow reminds the great reception halls of the 80s where we went to children for weddings. However, for a restaurant like this, you can also enjoy the atmosphere a little vintage. We'll sit down right after that, let's skip the adult age of almost all the staff in the room. what we appreciate and interpret as a sign of professionalism and experience, impression that then will prove truthful throughout the dinner. to welcome us, approach our table an old and kind gentleman who will turn out as the owner of the place, that we appreciate very much and that makes us feel immediately in good hands. the gentleman, immediately try to advise us by guiding us in the choice of dishes. Now, given the richness of the fish tank of the day we were almost all oriented to choose a second of fish, but behind the advice of the owner we decide instead to start with a mixed fish appetizer and a first. this choice was also guided by the fact that the paper menu is sometimes difficult to understand, given the multitude of dishes present that can make confusing those who have no clear ideas about what to take. It is in fact that after the ordination wine and appetizers arrive in a baton and we begin our dinner. the mixed appetizer is very good and rich in delicious combinations that include: fish, fruit and local cheese. everything leaves us very satisfied and lets us take the first good and inviting. Unfortunately, however, it was not so, since all the first dishes chosen had a disappointing one, the pasta seemed to be too much to the tooth (as testified by many other reviews) and the dress was too heavy for Filipino macaroni and too brodoso for the fettuccine of the island. Perhaps we would not understand their kitchen until the end, but the impression was that maybe it was better to take a second, than at the same price would leave us more satisfied. also because we are talking about 19€ for a dish of pasta, price that apparently seemed more tied to the prestige of the place than to the quality of the dishes. in short, we were a little disappointed overall, since we tried other restaurants far more at hand and we were really excited while here could go better. This does not take away that from the Filipino remains in my opinion a fundamental stage for a visit to Lipari, perhaps opting for a second."

"We booked our week away here with Fleetway travel and flew out of London Luton(flight time 3 hours). The transfer time from Catania airport was 1hr 40 mins by bus to Milazzo then a further 40 minutes by hydrofoil boat then we were picked up by the resort coach at the port of Vulcano; thankfully the hotel was only a 5 mins transfer from that point. Once we arrived, the long journey was quickly forgotten, once we saw the amazing views! A welcome drink was gratefully received and we were given a brief tour of the resort, then shown to our room. The room was of a good standard, stylised in a rustic design with a lovely sea view in fact the design of the whole hotel was stunning and well laid out. I could not fault the quality of the rooms, cleanliness, the friendly staff/service and spa facilities. Food was of a high standard, with evening meals served 'a la carte ' for those on the HB option, but they did not always live up to the Italian flavours you would expect (garlic, tomatoes, pesto, olive oils etc). Drinks were pricey and water should have been complimentary with dinner not charged at €5 per bottle! The mini bar in the room was complimentary which was ok if you drink tonic water or ginger beer. A trip out to Stromboli is recommended which you can easily book via the hotel. We also ventured out for the afternoon to Lipari, which was also a lovely place to visit (turn left when you get off the boat, find the cathedral, museum and the smaller harbour with lovely cobbled streets and cafes). All in all an amazing place to stay, would highly recommend."
