"My wife and I found Gusto Sapori del Vicoletto by chance. It was our first night in Menton. We were famished by also exhausted from a long day of travel. I asked my wife to find someplace nearby that sounded both good and not too expensive. Voila. Gusto Sapori. Situated just off one of Menton's main thoroughfares, the location is both quiet and convenient, without the noise or activity of the the more touristy part of town a quarter mile East. The service is friendly and Giacomo, the manager (I think), speaks English and French along with Italian so that diners can ask questions if need be and get informative answers. We saw a number of Italians during our four separate occasions there, along with a number of French people as well, but very few tourists, which tells you a bit about the restaurants appeal. It's unfussy, classic Mediterreanean Italian cuisine. There aren't alot of bells and whistles but it's very well-made and not terribly expensive. The fact that you can get a 50cl carafe of wine for 7 Euros is the cherry on top, making for a fine meal with good wine that can all be had for less than 50 Euros. In Menton, eating a great meal without spending a ton can be a bit of a challenge and so many of the other restaurants seem to have the exact same menu that picking one that might actually be good feels like flipping a coin. We paid far more for an inferior meal in Oldtown Menton. So, avoid the tourist traps just off the beaches, and do yourself a favor by strolling 5 minutes west and find Gusti Sapori, where great, authentic, well-made and well-priced Italian food can be yours. My wife and I had everything from pastas to salads to seafood to deserts and more and never left dissatisfied. Having also gone to Mirazur during our stay, a 2 Michelin Star Restaurant on the other side of town, I can say that we both preferred this little spot on a sidestreet because charm, genuine friendliness and a place where we felt comfortable and at home is what really helped us fall in love with Menton. Great value, great staff, and great food. Thanks for the memories, Giacomo, and see you again soon!"

"When traveling to the South of France, I have my bucket list of foods I absolutely must have: Socca (a chickpea pancake) with my coffee one morning, Salade Nicoise and Croque Monsieur for lunch, Loup, Dorade Lotte for dinner, and if possible Tarte Tatin for dessert. And at some point during my visit I want a good crepe. While there are numerous choices in Menton (where I normally stay), I always visit the Creperie St. Michel. Creperie St. Michel specializes in Galettes au Sarrasin, which are buckwheat crepes, a specialty of Brittany. I have visited this restaurant numerous times over the past 10 years and have never had a bad meal. In fact, St. Michel is one of my standby restaurants when I’m in the area. While the dessert crepes look fantastic, I usually stick with just one of the entrée crepes. Pretty much any entree crepe with the house wine makes for a delicious and quite reasonable meal. My favorite is the L’Hindira, tender Tandoori Chicken with a side salad. Also, recommended is L’Italienne (which is basically an Insalata Caprese on a top of a buckwheat crepe), La Forestière (ham, cheese mushrooms with crème fresh) and Magret de Canard (duck with either mushrooms or confit d’oignons). Not only was service professional, friendly and courteous, but our waitress actually remembered me from my previous visit. The atmosphere and ambiance inside is charming and weather-permitting, there are a few outside tables on the quiet street in front of the restaurant. Definitely recommended."
