"We spent the day in Padstow in August against my wishes as I've never taken to the place as it doesn't have the clarm of a typical seaside town but is crowded with expensive shops and restaurants. We were effectively forced into the place as everywhere else was crammed (as they usually are) and an alarm bell should have gone off as the place was only half full. I even joked that there must be something wrong with it as we could find a seat. It looks ok inside but the menu looked a bit on the expensive side so I ordered the cheapest main course which was a Cornish pasty and salad at and since I’ve had these before elsewhere and been happy with them I thought nothing of it.When it came I was pretty shocked as all I got was something resembling a Small Ginsters, browning lettuce and a soft tomato. At first I thought I’d been sent a starter by mistake but my partner gestured to the table to my left where the poor bloke had ordered a ploughmans and ended up with what looked like the contents of those awful Boots sandwiches. We made eye contact and words were not necessary as he saw my plate. The kids got a decent plate of chips as we objected to paying more but the jacket potato that the missus ordered wasn’t great either. There was at least one other person that I saw that looked upset with their lot before we left.Having read the other reviews it is obvious that out visit wasn’t a one-off and that worries me as the owner is either deluding him/herself into thinking that their place offers a really good product or they are assuming that there will be enough people that will only ever visit once to make the place pay irrespective of reputation.Either way, if you’re the owner, shame on you."

"As part our my mini moon, me and the new Hubby wanted to eat somewhere Posh. As we were going to Cornwall, I knew it had to be Rick Stein 's Seafood Restaurant. After a quick peruse of the menu online, I checked out available dates for booking. Man! This place books up quick! You HAVE to get in there early to get a chance to go. Luckily, we wanted to go for lunch rather than dinner so we were ok! A couple of clicks and we were booked! There is nothing quite like a nice stress free booking process and this couldn 't have been any easier. Within minutes we had our email confirmation and were looking forward to getting to Padstowe to give it a try. The venue is right on the harbour at Padstowe opposite the carpark). After a lovely jaunt around the town in the sunshine, we walked back towards the restaurant for our 1:30pm reservation. We were made to feel like the most important people in the room as soon as we walked in! I had put that we were honeymooning on the booking and we were told that the best table in the house was ready and waiting for us. We were escorted to a lovely comfortable corner booth all laid out for a delectable dining experience. Our waiter was super attentive, friendly and helpful throughout our dining experience. From taking us through the non alcoholic cocktail options hubby was driving) to talking us through each dish, we knew we were in for a treat. The food was fantastic. I went for the seafood soup to start, the Lobster Thermadore for main and we both opted for the dark chocolate tart with peanut butter ice cream for dessert. Each dish was wonderfully presented and we were given olives to nibble on whilst we were choosing our food and the most delicious sour dough and white bread to accompany our meals. The real wow factor came from the truffle and seaweed butter that was served with the bread; I have never had anything like it! The cocktail came with an edible flower and looked and tasted amazing. A great accompaniment to our meals. Now, as you might have guessed... the meal wasn 't cheap. The cheaper lunch menu was £38.50 for 3 courses, so 2x 3 course meals, a side and a couple of non alcoholic cocktails came to just under £100 £110 with tip); however, it was totally worth it for the dining experience. This place is thoroughly recommended for a celebration."

"If you are going to add your celebrity name to an eating establishment (and Mr Stein seems to have added his name to most of the retail establishments of Padstow, never mind the eateries!)then the punter is going to expect something over the odds. The only thing over the odds at this place was the price.Fish and chips are served in a cardboard container whether you are eating in or taking away. The special offer when we went yesterday was cod, chips, bread and butter and a cup of tea for The cod was one of the smaller ones I have encountered but was pleasant enough. The chips gave the impression of having been sitting there frying/heating for a long time and whilst the chunkier ones at the top of the pile were clearly related to a potato, the ones at the bottom of the cardboard container were shrivelled bits of hard overcooked crisp. The bread came already buttered with two bits of tasteless sliced bread slapped together so you had to eat them as one. Tartar sauce, in most places, comes as an extra at no charge, but this one weighs in at for a little pot of something that was greasy and tasteless and rather below the standard of what you would get at your average chippy. It added nearly to the cost of your special offer. It was half empty when we were there, because of the time of year, but as we ate at the stools perched by the window I am not sure how we would have got in or out if the long packed-in tables that you had to negotiate to get there had actually been occupied. We only went here because of the name and really wished we had gone somewhere else as it would probably have been better value and better food."
