"Came today with my 3 and 1 year old and their grandma for lunch before we went to Kinderhub next door. I always feel anxious about taking them out in case of tantrums etc as they are so little and obviously no concept of how to conform socially in that environment but knew it was a family friendly pub. Ordered them meals off kids menu and the staff kindly accepted requests to serve on a plate to cool quicker. The food was fine and as you’d expect for the venue and price. After eating the kids got restless and had had enough of colouring. I decided to let my 1 yr old stretch her legs and the eldest followed. It was a quiet day and only a few tables seated. They were walking round the entrance and looking at fruit machines. Other diners commented how cute my little girl was toddling as she was learning to walk. My eldest had a quick cheeky dash behind the bar when no staff were there and I quickly called him back. An older man then spoke to me as we passed his table on way to get our coats and asked that I take my children elsewhere as they were trying to have a quiet meal. I commented the children had been seated and quiet all thoroughout waiting for and eating their meal and that is was a family friendly pub serving kids meals. His response was that it was a restaurant with a bar (I would dispute) and that I should take them next door. I commented I was but it wasn’t yet open and there is nowhere to wait or play outside as the pub nor next door has outdoor play areas. He commented I should leave and I was very upset and shocked. I informed the male and female staff and they were lovely, they commented the children had not bothered them and offered them halloween sweets and encouraged us to stay. I have been left upset and ruminating on this all day as it is already stressful thinking about taking little ones out when you never know how they’ll manage these types of environments and I would rather let them explore safely with me than sit on screens. The pub was very quiet which is also why I allowed this. However it was very much helped by the kind staff and the gesture of the sweets left me feeling welcome and I would definitely return so thank you"

"As we entered the Pig and Whistle we was greeted by a lovely gentleman who explaon the processes of ordering the food very well. He was very professional and bubbly which made us feel very welcome. As we found a table we then proceeded to order our food, we went for the carverys. When waiting in line I saw two men being served by the carver, they had asked if any more beef was being brought out and they said sorry no this is all we have left. One of the men went and the other one was putting the veg on his plate, then a big joint of beef was brought out, the man asked if he could have some seeing as there was tiny scrap bits left and the carver refused to give this man any, even though I heard the carver say no more beef was coming out. The man got quite agitated as it had seemed like the carver had lied about it and then refused to give this man what he paid for. So that experience wasn't very good service to the other customers. So about my food, I waited patiently in line, there was no Yorkshire puddings, so waited a few minutes which wasn't too bad. The lady carver then gave me the scrap bits of turkey that was left and then I went to get my vegetables. The only bad thing about the veg section is the Brussels Sprouts were very hard to chew when they should be soft. Other than that the food wasn't too bad. As I was observing the staff members also dealing with the agitated man and beef situation as he walked away, a staff member started laughing at him, which I thought was appalling to do that to a paying customer. The customer service in the carvery section is very unprofessional, there are staff members standing around looking bored when there is tables to be cleaned as I looked around me. I then also noticed that so staff members were looking through the kitchen door windows at this man with the said beef problem laughing at him while he ate his food, I felt awful for the man as noone should ever be made to feel upset or agitated whilst enjoying a meal. Something needs to be done about the customer service here as it is shocking. I will not be returning here (This has been my local carvery for years). It seems like the staff are not trained properly in handling customers. Customer service standards have seriously dropped here and I'm appalled at their behaviours and the fact the carver lied to these mens faces. My recommendation is to go to the farmers Arms instead, better quality food and better service."
