"Having left Northumberland that morning skipping breakfast, we were in desperate need of some hot food by the time we arrived. Having a stroll around Malton and Norton, there didn’t appear to me to be that many restaurants or pubs opening offering food, it seemed to be mostly cafes. We dipped into here because we thought we’d get a pub meal, unfortunately it was mainly toasties, scones, sandwiches and soup. The hot offering was pulled pork with Nachos, they were okish. I went for the chicken, bacon and Mayo sandwich. I guess I thought I’d get a chicken breast, some streaky bacon slices and maybe lettuce and mayo. What I got was some heart attack inducing, calorie laden creamy chicken monstrosity. 80% Mayo, 20 %chicken, 0% bacon. I did ask the girl behind the bar that they forgot to add the baconand was told it was all chopped up. I will wager my two children that there was NO bacon in that sandwich whatsoever, the only texture was a stalk of a slice of rocket or other green leaf thing. Now I’m not a chef, but I’m pretty sure that if you ask anyone off the street to make a sandwich with three ingredients, it’s something they could manage. Thinking whoever was in the kitchen that day could do with some catering school experience. This establishment excels in hiring someone who can take the basics and mess it up spectacularly. So speaking of messing things up, it took me three attempts at paying the bill. I was first told when I went to the bar it was £20. I thought it cheap but I just assumed they didn’t charge me for the sandwich as it wasn’t what I wanted. Before leaving I picked our glasses up to leave on the bar, only to be greeted with a “I’ve not charged you for drinks, it’s an extra £8” I guess no niceties here. I handed over two £5 notes, as I waited for my change which took forever, she then turned around and said “it’s not £8, it’s £14” Incompetence rules rife here. No one is infallible but this was ridiculous.; not only was I annoyed at being charged for ingredients which didn’t exist, I seemed to then have to jump through hoops to settle the bill. Without doubt, the worst food I’ve had in a number of years and worst place I’ve been to in Malton it won’t surprise anyone to say I won’t be back, and I’m sure they won’t want me back anyway."

"A group of us went on the Travel Zoo offer which was for the Taster menu. First impressions when we walked into the restaurant was this is an old pub room with a dirty fish tank, a dying fish at the bottom of the tank and mix match of tables. I tried to forget this and let the food do the talking. Ordered off the menu which to be honest I thought was a good idea, as we could try different dishes. The starter came which was ok, then the fish course which included a rubbery Cat fish with a funny taste, this was inedible. The main course then followed with Belly Pork and Chicken which was OK, the Venison which was very sinewy and un-edible. The Assiette of Deserts was not great, I even think they forgot to put sugar in the crumble, but the moose was very nice. The staff were not great, they just served you and were very slow at getting drinks, no excuse when we were the only people in the restaurant on a Friday night. I don’t understand the amazing comments from others, as we did not receive anything like their experience. Personally I think an empty restaurant on a Friday night shows the real picture. I have owned restaurants and hotels before, I suggest that they keep to the simple food like steaks and other bar food, as the taster menu was a good idea, but the food was not up scratch, the venue was poor and the staff were not great.Having looked at the website I see there are no images of the restaurant, I now understand why. The images of the food had no resemblance to the food or presentation we experienced and would say it’s misleading. I don’t like making these type of reviews as its people lively hoods, but I would strongly recommend that the owners improve things quickly or unfortunately they will become another pub casualty."

"Such a pretty setting and a rather nice atmosphere but that's the best they have to offer. The staff seem like under pressure and unhappy. There was one young lady who seemed to care as did the manager but all things considered it was a poor service establishment when you have to go hunting for a member of staff to address problems with your order. The restaurant was fairly busy but our food was dropped and the waitress couldn't move on fast enough. Fact your paying a upper price for a drop and run service. A chicken supreme priced at £18 with overcooked peas, dried mash, which was sprinkled with spring onions as opposed to it running through and flavouring the pash. The pancetta was nowhere to be seen but there was one pearl onion (I kid you not) but the added bonus of slivers of mushrooms (not listed in the menu, which for a Micophobic is quite unappreciated. The Linguine (with roasted tomato sauce was acidic and had no depth of flavour or sign of Parmesan. When we spoke with the waiting team they said thevparmesan was my mixed in and not actually with it as suggested. We cannot fault the portion size only the lack of flavour. My daughter never ever leaves her pasta but this was not to here taste. Overall the surroundings are lovely, they corrected the mishap through not charging, the staff are professional in the main with those that need assistance in understanding they need to know the dishes they are serving and how or what it shouldn't include and how to deal with it. We weren't checked upon and for that I cannot forget. Having worked in the industry for a larger part of my career it always saddens me that chefs feel they can sway and change what they serve over what the menu suggests is in the dish. I'm familiar with puffery of menus how easy it is too forget that you must honour what is in a dish and stand the details or keep front of house informed. To stress how important it is to detail what's in a menu, My daughter has a peanut allergy so if a dish doesn't state it includes peanuts (but could of been exposed to) I'd be outraged. I appreciate Micophobia might be an underestimated condition but it's something I live with. I llive my life hoping to not meet the same demise's as IKing Bar-bar! So come on up you game your claiming to be a Swan not an Ugly Duckling"

"My son treated myself and my husband to a gift voucher as a wedding anniversary gift for the Feversham Arms hotel. We decided to have lunch there. Long story short: we stayed at this hotel several years ago and it wasn’t a great experience. I really didn’t want to stay at the hotel or do anything more involved than have a simple lunch. Clearly, there’s no such thing as a simple lunch at the Feversham Arms. When we arrived at the Weathervane restaurant, there was just one other couple. Everywhere else in the hotel, bar, lounge etc where extremely quiet, not a single customer to be seen. We ordered our food, it arrived, it was ok. Not great, just ok. We both wanted a dessert, however, we waited half an hour before deciding that being ignored for half an hour was too much. We left the restaurant, and spoke to a member of staff behind the bar in fact there were 4 members of staff behind the bar! And not a single customer anywhere). We explained that we needed to leave as we’d waited for over half an hour without any staff in the restaurant. I explained about my gift voucher, and wanted to use it to pay the bill. The staff member told me that the full amount had to be spent as no change could be given. I explained it wasn’t our fault that we couldn’t spend the full amount because nobody came to take our dessert order, or more drinks. She said she could “give me some scones to take home”! I was flabbergasted. I refused her absurd offer and said I wanted another voucher for the unspent amount. She then offered a bottle of Prosecco. I explained we don’t drink alcohol, and repeated my request for another voucher. She went away and returned saying she couldn’t find anyone to ask. A young lad behind the bar said he’d only started there that day, as had a few other members of staff. Apparently there was a general manager , a deputy manager, and food and beverage manager on duty. Where were they hiding? They should be training the staff. A restaurant should not be left unattended. Customer service at this hotel is non existent. Little has changed in the several years since our last visit. We will never give our custom to this place again. I left with a voucher for the unspent amount and I will give it away. I just didn’t want the hotel to keep the money. I would not recommend this place to anyone, either as a hotel or as a restaurant. Very, very poor."
