"Dined with family midweek, on the whole it was delightful, however you are presented with a mass of contradictions. On arrival, the venue is what you could politely describe as underwhelming, the exterior is a rather ugly 1970s facade, which has limited scope for improving. The interior could easily be upgraded, at the moment the rough wooden bar, tarten tab top curtain, garish paintwork and shabby fishing tackle boxes don 't present themselves as fine dining, which is what you would expect for the prices. Due to an unavoidable issue with supply, we were not able to order our preferred choice of lobster, however everything we did order was absolutely delightful. The mussels were cooked perfectly, the batter for the tempura prawns was light and crisp and the salad dressings were tasty. For main courses we mostly ended up opting for steak, the fillet was a really good cut, very flavoursome and cooked exactly as requested, I don 't usually have sauces with steak (garlic butter being the standard preference) but chose for the mushroom sauce it was so tasty, and plenty of it. The vegetables were nicely seasoned but a little overcooked for my liking, (but I 'm not sure if that 's down to the demographic, which was predominantly winter, from what we saw of our fellow diners). The Wagyu burger was one of the 'best ever tasted ', and the Surf and Turf was delicious according to the recipient. The deserts were the only real let down, and I would say not up to the same standards as the savoury food. We took an early sitting, by the time we left the restaurant was full no sign of an economic downturn here, and there were clearly a lot of regulars. The service was, for the most part good, the staff were all friendly and helpful but our glasses often needed refilling and crumbs were left on the table, which, again, for the prices in the restaurant, you would expect those things to be taken care of. All in all, the food was great, the service was good but other aspects could be improved to make it perfect."

"My partner and I decided to revisit here as we had been about a month ago and the food was very impressive in particular the pate and lasagne were exceptional last time. So we thought we would go again on Friday wish we hadn’t! We sat in the restaurant area on a small table for 2 by the window. The tables were a little sticky. So we wiped them with a napkin. We were told by a young pretty waitress that the menu was currently reduced in size. Limiting our options. It was fairly busy which was a good sign. I ordered the hunters chicken and my partner ordered a burger. We waited about 25 minutes which wasn’t too bad. The food arrived and the chicken was soo dry it had been hidden by the sauce and cheese. But had been cooked to well if I say an inch of its life it would be an understatement. The salad was warm and wilted. My partners burger was burnt on one side and the other side looked under done. The bun itself was also burnt and had then been blatantly scraped but the cheese was covered in little black burnt pieces. We were about to complain when an argument broke out between an older chef with a beard and glasses and a bald man in a white shirt through the kitchen hatch. A few other customers looked over aswell. At this point we had seen enough and just paid our bill and left. We said afterwards it was such a shame as the previous time had been soo good. But may leave it a long while before we give it another chance."
