"so. for a kick-off, this place has many potentials and is a very attractive and beautifully positioned place, right at the main train of the fair mile at henley on thames. good. that said the experience of our meal was less than satisfactory. After we decided that we didn't want to start and have only preferred a main course, we were surprised that our food came out within 5 minutes after the order and was ploned before us. that's good, but what we were greeted by has given us the feeling that we were back. the 80s with a beefeater art of experience. my friends steak was floppy and looked like something from tesco for 3 pfund and her veg was overcooked and black. with young, trunk broccoli, they only need to blanche for 2-3 minutes, as they wipe very quickly. on my head. this was 4 crevettes, deep fryed with a dressing that was good; no problems there at all and a lacking 1970 style prawn cocktail with super market marie the rosesoße pressed about what had been frozen on the bed of the shrunk iceberg salad. the chips, were stacked on the side and were dry and bleeding to be honest. no taste, and they were probably too long in the many remaining ofenchips. When I came back from the gents, I found my friend who knows the very polite and young waitress that eating was not good at all. that said the ingredients were good, it was how they were cooked and presented. pretty awful. each cook worth weight white how to cook a good steak and present young veg without being floppy and crowned. then we saw the young waitress who left the owner who then went to empty us. I guess she was upset that we had complained. I understand, but this is not professional and shows a significant lack of customer service as home personnel. the barman was polite and we paid quickly. we couldn't get out fast enough."

"I have had a few take away meals from The Vine Spice and enjoyed them, so my wife and I treated friends to a meal at the restaurant there. Sadly and surprisingly I was extremely disappointed. One of our friend 's found that the chicken in their meal was undercooked (it was still pale pink and highlighted this to staff. It was taken away and a replacement given. The chicken in this was cooked fine, but the sauce was now much more watery and lacked flavour due to this (the other had a nice, thick creamy sauce . My wife and I are both vegan and member of staff taking our order didn 't seem too sure what this meant. During our meal, we had 3 different members of staff coming up asking us the same questions rather than one member of staff being given responsibility for this role. All the staff were very polite, but it was a little disconcerting to be trying to have a conversation only for another member of staff interrupt to ask a question asked a few minutes previously (e.g. whether everything was alright, whether we required any more drink etc. Our vegan curries had several hard pieces of veg (we don 't overcook our veg and enjoy a slight bite to them, but numerous bits of veg were virtually raw and must 've been chucked into the sauce moments before dishing up and my wife found some onion with the root still attached. Also, I did find the meal to be expensive for what you get. Given this experience, I won 't be getting any more meals from The Vine Spice ."

"The food and coffee were very good. We were out with friends that we have known for 40+ years. We knew we would have a good evening. How could it go so wrong?Service. Customer Service does anyone remember what this was? We had a table booked for 7pm. It was reserved. So far, so good. The menu was limited but we knew the pub had changed hands and was being upgraded. No problem. We were not given a wine list. We ordered house wine and beer. After ordering the food appeared in a timely fashion. They served three of us and then asked if there was anything else we needed. The fourth guest said she would like her meal, please. The waitress visited the kitchen and returned saying the Chef had forgotten to cook her meal but he would treat it as a priority. It didn’t take that long but could have been handled more tactfully. At 9:06 we were asked if we had finished and would like to pay. We had only just ordered coffee from another of the six or so waiters, chatting behind the bar we’d had to go to the bar to order more wine. This despite the fact that there were only two other tables occupied. The coffee arrived and soon after we paid the bill (adding a tip despite the lack of service). We lingered for a while as we hadn’t seen one another for several months. The other diners left and about 9:25 the lights were dimmed. There were several other customers still drinking. We realised we were expected to leave and, still in relatively good humour left the pub restaurant. We were saying our goodbyes when a young waiter raced out of the door and rudely, in a loud voice, asked if we had paid! We said that we had. He then told us to wait while he went in to check! I think at that point I had really had enough and explained how offended I was to be asked in the first place but then not to be believed was totally disrespectful. I had not been to the establishment for several years and certainly will not be repeating the experience."

"We visited the Red Lion after being given a voucher for Christmas by a family member. This was a much awaited evening out for my husband and I without our children. We had a table booked for 7pm and turned up on time. Upon arriving we were given a table and our drinks orders were taken promptly. We then had to wait for absolutely ages for anyone to take our food order. In the end I ended up going to the bar to ask if we could order our food as we were getting hungry. The person behind the bar came over and took our order and upon ordering I asked if we could order some bread I am heavily pregnant and by this point needed something to nibble on) I was told that bread comes out automatically when you order your mains. I was happy with this and satisfied that I would get something to eat while waiting for my main. Nothing came! At 8.25 I ended flagging down a staff member again asking where our food was and if we were going to get any bread. Almost immediately our dinner was then brought over to us. Still we were not given any bread but by this point I was just happy to eat something. The food was absolutely lovely and we were pleased with the food we had. We then ordered desert but then had to wait once again as no one came back to us so I had to go up to the bar to ask to pay. The thing that made this whole experience more disappointing was that the woman who I can only assume was the landlady and chef had been sat down next to us at one point chatting away to others in the restaurant while we were sat waiting for our food. We then witnessed another staff member wearing chef attire also wandering around at one point too whilst still waiting for our food. I would add that it is also frustrating and somewhat unprofessional to have to observe the same landlady and chef happily sat down eating their own dinner amongst other patrons whilst waiting for dessert. Overall it was a really disappointing evening and the service unfortunately was diabolical. I did not even have the opportunity to discuss this with anyone as no one came back to our table to ask how our meal had been."
