"Came here with my Mum and sister for a birthday treat for my mum. Booked online and was sent an email asking if there were any dietary requirements/allergies. I responded to this and advised that I was vegetarian and none of our party ate fish....Upon arrival we were greated by a man who I think was the manager. He wasn't particularly friendly but was polite. I checked with him our request for 1 vegetarian and no fish for any of us had been received to which he advised yes. Our waiter was lovely if a little shy. We were offered a selection of teas by a lady and the waited asked if we were ready for the afternoon tea. I advised yes and again just double checked about the dietry requirements. When our afternoon tea arrived it looked great, however our waiter failed to advise us what each of the sandwiches and cakes were and as there were no menus we were left guessing. There was only one veggie option of egg. The other sandwiches were chicken and Ham (on a plate next to the veggie sandwiches) and to all of our horror some salmon sandwiches also on the plate. I called the waiter over and politely advised him that we asked for no fish and he went and took this up with the kitchen and came back 10 mins later with some other sandwiches which consisted of cucumber and tomato, guacamole and red onion and mushroom pate. What concerns me is I asked 3 times for no fish and I was completely ignored and had someone with allergies bitten into the sandwich (it had some red onions in it so was hard to tell it was salmon without looking inside) it could have caused an allergic reaction. The matter was resolved but I feel the veggie sandwiches should have been on a separate plate and the staff should be explaining what each of the cakes and sandwiches are which is common practice at most venues offering afternoon tea. Despite the mishap, the food was fresh and tasty, the ambiance was nice and the price was realisable although I do feel it's a bit cheeky to slap on a 10% service charge especially when you aren't even being told what you are eating! I would return, however please Grand cafe be more aware of allergies and dietary requirements especially when the customer has gone out of their way to ask for this 3 times."

"To say I’m absolutely fuming with George’s Restarunt is an understatement !! We’ve been using this place for over 20 years as have most of the family. If there is an occasion George’s was the go to place … we were going so often at one point that when my wife was Pregnant one time they even done her take away of her favourite starter … but now I guess they don’t want the business. This weekend was supposed to be a special weekend for my youngest son. Back when he was younger he’d sit in there and eat the kids meatballs which were bigger than his head. Now he’s older and this was his delayed birthday weekend, and his first weekend home from the army in a long time. HIS choice of venue was to eat a George’s restaurant. I booked the table online for 18:30. I had a phone call from the restaurant to confirm our booking on the day, I even phoned them back to confirm the birthday part of it so logic says we were going to be there. Due to my sons train arriving late We arrived 13 minutes late to the restaurant to be told we could no longer have our table. What the hell !! The place was t busy and how does 13 minutes make a difference?? It’s a shame time moves on and the younger staff have no idea what loyalty means or even basic customer service for that matter. It’s a shame because the whole family have many many years of good memories here and now I have no desire to return to a place that doesn’t want my business. I’ll also be talking the rest of the family into finding a different venue for all future family events. Maybe George’s will continue as they have for a long time or maybe it’ll be run into the ground and disappear along with the original values this place held"
