"An absolutely dreadful experience. We booked an indoor table because we didn 't want to be hot in the heatwave sun and, despite explaining this when we arrived and were offered an outdoors table, the server then tried to seat us right next to a south east facing window. It was blindingly bright and would have been like sitting in a greenhouse. We were then put one table along where got to sit on a filthy bench. Hooray for me. Our starter was a pair of vinegary, rough gazpacho soups (only partially eaten despite being super hungry) followed by a very average fish and chips for me, with what was described as tartare sauce. Really it was just mayo with about half a caper chopped through it. I couldn 't see or taste any lemon, shallots, parsley or seasoning. My friend ordered a steak salad from the 'Chef 's Specials ', a description which we assume must be ironic. First she was brought the wrong dish. Then they took the charred beef off this wrong dish (it was a cremated beef and pepper kebab) and put it with about ten leaves and some other uninspiring stuff on a tiny plate with a bowl of what looked like pink glue in the middle. There was no ranch dressing, as per the menu, and when we asked where the dressing was, we were told that was the pink contents of the gluey bowl. It bore absolutely no resemblance to ranch dressing! Aside from the fact that I held the bowl upside down during the entire conversation with the server and none of it came out, it tasted of nothing and yet had a strong heat to it. The pink colour must have been from chillis, which do not belong in ranch dressing. My friend ended up ordering bread and eating that because most of the salad, particularly the black, stringy beef, was inedible. At the end of the meal the server told us that he was charging us for the wrong main dish which had originally been served because that was slightly cheaper than the rubbish my friend had ended up with. He said this as if it was a good thing or made up for the risible meal. I asked why we were being charged anything for that particular main course given the wait for the right meal, the appalling quality of the food and lack of resemblance to that which was listed on the menu, at which point he took it off the bill. While I know that most British food pubs don 't exactly set the bar high with their over priced, uninspiring fare espeically for those of us who have eaten absolutely anywhere else in Europe but the Poacher Partridge hit an all time low."
