"Advised by our concierge to head here for a quick lunch bite and left happy. It's a small cafe with a limited menu but the sandwiches and salads served are made fresh and with a smile. We shared a giant pick-your-own salad bowl (maximum cost £5.60) which filled us both and was full of variety. There are small tables outside. Don't dare go to Costa or Starbucks when you can eat this well at a local, independent deli."

"Wow!! went to boozy Bingo last night wasn't sure what to expect as we had never done this before, but was a girls night out so thought we try something different. Don't know where to start. The atmosphere was buzzing the staff were happy and helpful. The food was excellent and then the Bingo started and so did the belly laughs Jake and Dev are the next comedy double act and definitely need to brush up on the Bingo lingo which actually made it even more funnier. The bar staff were brilliant handing out the drinks on top of the jelly shots that were so strong. The prises were amazing even tho we only won one line. Such a good night will definitely be coming again Well done to the Hub box team for a fantastic evening"

"Both my husband and I wanted to eat here and as we were down there, we booked a table. The staff was welcoming, the table was badly illuminated, it was difficult to read the menu. We chose our food and didn't have to wait long for our appetizers, I chose the goan mussels that were great, my men terrine was fine, but no bread served with it. The main thing was not as good as the appetizers, I chose the maple roasted squash pasta, the eingrediants seemed well cooked, although I wondered whether the squash at all roasted or simply boiled and added to the pasta, the overall dish was also added to salt, pepper and parmesan. I said I chose the wrong main choice. My husband Burger was also dry and tasteless, which for him as Burger disapointing are widely used as house speciality.(though he ate it all) The homemade chips were excellent. The contempt of the Pasta bowl was passed on to the staff because I did not eat much of it and they were very apologetic and wanted to put the situation right, they offered me something else to cook and a refund on the plate was agreed. Customer service and the desire that their patrons radiate the experience of the pub very clearly."

"Excellent, gourmet level food in a humble dining room with 4 booths and just 14 other chairs, staffed by friendly, helpful servers. Note, the name has changed since the previous review written in 2010. The 'Old ' has been deleted. The restaurant is now The Watch House. Google map the location. The address says Truro but the actual tiny seaside village is St. Maws. Use the public parking just to the right of building. The car park sign is obvious. 75 parking spots available. Then walk 200 yards to the eatery. My meal: delicious sweet potato purée. Slightly spicy with chili oil. Liquified with coconut milk. Croutons in a side cup to top onto the soup. Fish was whole sautéed plaice in clarified butter topped samphire capers. Adequate cup of chips on the side. Fried correctly and delicious. Wife 's meal: roasted tiger prawns, spicy exterior, juicy meat. I was a little surprised that the portion of 6 shrimp was considered a meal, as my plaice dish was comparatively huge. Also, shrimp came with no sides. So for £20 This dish is overpriced. But Barbara was satisfied. She ordered an extra side salad for £4. It was sparkling fresh. Small selection of locally made beers (by the bootle, no,casks), wines and a few cocktails on the menu. I had an ale made in neighboring Penryn, it was satisfying. Barbara had a glass of South African Pinot noir. It was passable at best. (I 'm a wine snob from Northern California) Verdict: good food, excellent service, not cheap. Meal described above price was £55. You can eat more economically. Fish and chips will set you back £14."

"We we’re the only table using the restaurant , there wasn’t any ambience , light background music would have been appreciated . The chips onion rings were very lack lustre. The fish dish was however cooked nicely . We had dessert which was extremely expensive for the very small portion of cheesecake on offer ! All in all disappointing after the good reviews we had read online . Wouldn’t book again for a special meal , very average !"

"The restaurant was disappointing from the start. We attended a children's Halloween party that had minimal decorations and just a few bowls of popcorn. Despite attempts to liven up the atmosphere with music, the speakers were broken and kept cutting out. Our food arrived quickly, but my pizza was undercooked. When I brought it to the staff's attention, I was given a dirty look and asked if I wanted a takeout box instead of a replacement. They simply reheated the same pizza instead of making a new one. I was extremely disappointed and ended up not eating my pizza."

"The café was clean, and well organised. I was served quickly, and with a smile. As a first time visitor,I felt it was a 'club ' where if you were a known person you would be spoken with l, and if new, not so much. The disabled toilet had a broken support,and no toilet roll. I say these things as my honest feedback, not as a complaint, but as an opportunity for small changes that would make a big difference for me."

"In my working life, I frequently visit a McDonald's from lands end to Scotland, daily, I have had to use this particular outlet a number of times now, I use the drive-through, and every time I do, it's the wrong order, by the time I notice, I'm already out on the road, except this time, this time I drive round, entered the queue yet again, asked why my order is incorrect, nothing, not even an apology, the food it's self, poorly put together very slap dash, this outlet needs a good looking at, training won't go a miss ether, pull yourselves together, if another McDonald's opened up in truro, you would lose. Food: 2 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1"

"We went to this restaurant for Sunday lunch on their first day of serving them again after the summer. It was evident that there were new wait staff who struggled to answer some customers' questions, but overall the service was satisfactory. The options for meat were limited to beef or nut roast. The vegetables were varied, though some would have preferred them to be served in a side dish rather than underneath the meat and Yorkshire pudding. We had to wait for the waitress to bring our vegetables. The beef was delicious, the roast potatoes were crispy, and the cauliflower cheese was excellent. There was plenty of gravy, and everything was served hot. However, at £18 per person, it felt a bit expensive for the quality of food and service provided. The restaurant could use a refresh as there were worn areas of carpet that posed trip hazards. We had to wait for horseradish sauce, and it seemed that the person in charge was constantly running back and forth with sauces. It would be helpful to have sauces pre-prepared and ready in the kitchen. The staff could benefit from additional training, and offering more meat choices would be appreciated. Despite these shortcomings, it was still a pleasant lunch experience."
