The attention to detail, the balance, flavours, presentation, textures the list is endless and beyond comprehension. Simon Kerri are fantastic hosts and clearly passionate about serving high end top quality ingredient food. On my recent visit my partner and I could not fault each course. The icing on the cake was the dessert that I specifically went along to try on this particular occasion. OMG!! I felt like I was eating a fluffy cloud if that’s possible Lemon Meringue Cheesecake made by their chef was an absolute dream. It was so light, the texture was soft and dreamy and the flavours were just the right balance. Not overly sweet or sharp just perfect! Someone give this place a Michelin Star!"

"I made a reservation online 6 weeks in advance for an early dinner, but when we arrived, they had no record of it. After showing them the confirmation message, they were able to seat us as the dining room was empty. We had an early dinner and some menu items were already sold out. I ordered the beef roast dinner, which was good overall, but the roast potatoes seemed reheated and the parsnips were overcooked. My husband had the steak and mushroom pie which he found to be dry with hard pastry. The price of £48.00 for a pint of beer and a glass of wine felt a bit high for the quality of the food. We don't plan on returning due to our experience with the cooking."

"This is my favorite restaurant. The food is always cooked to perfection, with a menu that offers interesting twists on classic dishes using local ingredients. The wine list is extensive, featuring high-quality wines and a large selection of beers. The interior is beautifully decorated, and the enclosed garden provides a relaxing space to enjoy a meal. "I recently visited the Swan for the first time since the management change. Although the drinks took a while to arrive, the serving staff were exceptionally polite. The starters, ranging from bruschetta to prawns, were really good. The mains were a mix of great pizzas and kids pasta, with average ribs and a risotto that was initially good until one guest found some grit in it. When we pointed this out to the chef, they insisted it was a peppercorn, which we knew it definitely was not. Despite this, we didn't make a big deal out of it as another family member was covering the bill, but personally, I believe the chef should have been more honest about the mistake. It's something they should reflect on for the future."

"We have lived in Dunmow for 25 years and have always visited this pub through its various ownerships. We had not been for a while, until after I had a life saving major heart operation last year and this was the first place we chose to go for breakfast when I came out of hospital. We have continued to go since then on a regular basis and it never fails to satisfy. We have always been served by Lorraine since the first day we went and she has been fantastic. Last weekend was a year since I had the operation and we chose to go back for a small family meal to celebrate the success of the day. Well what can I say, my wife had other ideas and with the help of Lorraine she organised a surprise gathering of family and friends in a cordoned off part of the marquee with buffet. What made it even more special was that they don't normally do a buffet on a Sunday as it is normally roast dinner only. After Lorraine explained to her manager the importance of the day she was more than happy to help make the day happen. For this I am really grateful, and despite not getting the steak dinner I thought I was having it was so much better. Thank you to everyone involved as I know the organisation for this on a day you would not normally do it would have been a challenge. We will continue to go for breakfast whenever we can and hope that Lorraine is always there."

"This is our third visit for an overnight stay but the first since it had new owners. My wife and I stayed for one night with an evening meal and breakfast. The room staff and breakfast were all very good. Unfortunately our evening meal was disappointing. Our starters and my steak were all good. However my wife ordered triple cut chips and fish. The fish was fine but the chips were soggy and very dark brown. They tasted like they had been cooked in old oil that was overdue for a change. These were so soft and not at all like triple cooked chips. We raised the issue with the waitress who replaced them without any fuss. Unfortunately she did not listen to the problem and brought another bowl that were just as bad. Not wanting to let this spoil our meal we did not complain further. I did however ask the waitress to inform the manager of this problem as we were paying the bill. Overall our visit was very nice but could have been much better if it was not for the issue over dinner."

"We have been to this pub about 3 times in the 5 years that we have lived in dunmow. We don't go to the saracens head often as every time service hasn't been great but thought we'd give it another go as food has always...been good, we don't often get to go out as a family so we where really looking forward to a nice evening. we booked a table for the 6 of us. Upon arrival no one saw to us even though there was only 1 table of people finishing their food so it wasn't exactly busy. I saw a girl around the corner who I said hello to and then she took our names, she pointed to where we would be sitting and I asked politely if we where able to sit on the table parallel as we had a buggy with a buggy board attached so it would of jutted right out and been a pain to anyone trying to walk past if we where on the table she said we would be at, her reply was well you can but can't you just put the buggy over there (up some stairs away from table- I want the buggy near incase he needed to nap) she then said or else I have to move all the cutlery otherwise which obviously by her expression and attitude would have been too inconvenient! By the point we felt so awkward as if we had made the biggest demand, so i just said yes we would like the other table but don't worry we will move the cutlery ourselves, in which she replied okay and just walked away! Once we had moved all cutlery I said excuse me please can we have a menu as we didn't get given any, she walked away and came back with one piece of paper and handed it to me and said here, there's only one (this was between 4 adults She then got her coat and left as her shift was over, I understand she wanted to go home but she came across so rude which isn't great when your working with general public at front of house. No smiles from any staff. When we were ready to order I asked the next waitress to take our order as no one had even asked if we wanted drinks, to be fair she apologised saying she thought the last girl had taken our order. After that food came quickly and we all said how tasty and hot our food was the lasagne especially!! SO MASSIVE THANK YOU TO THE CHEFS!!! if I'm honest we normally would have 3 courses and spend a decent amount of money on drink too but we just felt uncomfortable ,had our mains and said we wouldn't bother with desert or more drinks as we wanted to go. we left feeling really disappointed about the experience which was a shame as the food was great .waiting staff seem bored or just moody"

"we ate on Sunday afternoon on the last weekend and the quality and quantity of food was as always excellent. despite quite completeness, the service remains timely and polite. it is so beautiful that when ordering water, this is served with ice and lemon, and not with the frit they get so often in other facilities. "Visiting this lovely establishment on a whim with my partner. We arrived early and decided to have a drink in the bar. Very prompt service! After our drink we were escorted to our table and proceeded to order. We had the arancini and beans on toast to start. Where do I begin? I should imagine they have managed to obtain the Heinz recipe because it was simply incredible. So flavoursome and a beautiful amount of smokiness. Now for the main event, we had the pork belly scallops and the penang cod curry and OMG what an amazing couple of dishes they were! Scallops were incredible! The house made noodles were to die for! I am simply in awe with this establishment. What a transformation this public house has had. Thank you to the Kitchen team and Dean for a wonderful evening, I cannot wait to dine again"

"Just arrived back from Tenerife, decided to stop in the Green Man Boutique Hotel, got there about 9ish. Chef Mems greeted us , helped carry our luggage and agreed to cook us a couple of burgers, even though the restaurant was closed. What a meal. Seasoned beef mince moulded into a thick patty, cooked to your preference, topped with 2 types of cheese including parmesan, served with Brioche bun, coated with burger sauce, leaves, red onion and tomato, tempura battered onion rings, homemade coleslaw and thick crispy chips. Possibly, no definately, the best burger I have tasted. Super bar area, great ambience, and super friendly people. If I had a whinge, it would be as simple as adding a scattering of micro coriander on top of the gin and tonic. Little touch but makes the difference. Thank you for a lovely, friendly welcome back to the UK. Definitely a must visit place."

"We visited mid week to find the pub very busy which gave it a great atmosphere. The Pub is broken up into separate areas for eating and drinking with two very attractive seating areas outside. Its a pub well supported by the locasl and you can just pop in for a drink. We were greeted with a welcome roaring fire in the bar area on a very cold evening. Its everthing you would want in a traditional country village pub. The menu is interesting and varied with reasonable prices. The food we chose was excellent with the best of ingredients used. The staff were very friendly and helpful throughout our visit."

"first time to visit. this was recommended to us. we came to an almost empty pub around 17 o'clock to say that no tables are available inside. we are far from home and hungry so sat outside. it was so cold, so my food was when I was done. very fast when I went to pay at 18 o'clock, I counted empty chairs. I think it was 69. I couldn't see around the corner, but there were probably more tables. how they feel their guests are unwilling! eating was excellent, I'll say. sneaks slightly pricy. for the lack of service to find us a table, the chap behind the bar has lost two valuable stars."

"Our experience of The Cross Keys Hotel, Saffron Walden started very positively. The restaurant was very busy at 14:00 and we thought we would try our luck and see if they had a table for two. The greeting by the manager was extremely friendly and they quickly accommodated us. We had a drink at the bar until our table was ready. We took our seats at the table and this is where the issues begun. We sat at the table for a while and no one came to give us any menus or ask whether we wanted more drinks etc. I went and took a menu from the till. Eventually I caught the attention of a passing waitress as asked whether someone would be able to take our order. The food advertised on the sandwich board outside was not available unfortunately but the menu looked promising. We ordered our food and then waited about an hour for the starter to come out. The restaurant was about 1/3 full at this time. Staff were not interested in tending to their customers. Two blond haired waitresses were chatting in the bar area and the manager was stood in the bar area eating cheese cake. The table adjacent to us had waited around 40 minutes for their deserts to arrive. Once again we had to grab the attention of passing staff to refill our drinks. The starter that arrived approximately an hour into our experience was dry on one side and had clearly been sat under a heat lamp. Once we had finished the started we promptly waved a waitress over and asked for the main course to be sent out as time was ticking on. Again we waited and decided that we have had enough. We went to the bar and asked that we pay our bill and explained about the poor service. To the barmaid credit she apologised for the poor service and said that she would remove the food from the bill and we just had to pay for our drinks. Just as we were doing this the main course arrived. I said to the barmaid the food has arrived can I pay for the additional. The barmaid said don’t worry as she had already taken the food off the bill and we could still have the food. I asked whether she was sure and she said that she was. We ate the food which was mediocre at best, the food was cold, potatoes and parsnips under cooked and the ‘gravy’ was very watery. As we stood up to leave the manager came over and said as we have eaten the food we now have to pay for it. I said that I didn’t mind paying for it, but that was not what the barmaid said. She said that she didn’t care what the barmaid said, she was the manager. I replied fine but I want you to get the barmaid and for her to tell her about the conversation that we had. The manager brought the barmaid out who in front of a restaurant of customers was made to apologise for making a mistake. It was humiliating for the member of staff. The manager was rude and gave the impression we were trying to get free food by complaining. The only defence the manager gave for poor service “the staff become complacent when it gets quiet”. No apology, no reasoning. I had already paid the bill so there was no need for it. It is such a shame for such a lovely venue. A lazy manager, unprofessional and massively lacking customer service and management skills. She did not support her member of staff and chose to humiliate her for £30. Please replace the manager and lazy staff working the restaurant floor. If the staff were on the ball and the food had come out in a timely manner I am sure I would be writing a positive review. I won’t be returning and if you have plans for the day I would recommend that you also give it a miss."

"The food was ok, the service was slow and the staff weren’t particularly friendly. The most disappointing aspect of the visit was the lack of appropriate high chairs. When I asked I was presented with a booster chair which would only be suitable for much older children 3 years . It resulted in me having to juggle my 8 month old daughter on my lap for the duration of the meal. Neither of us were able to eat properly around the table. It really spoilt the enjoyment of our meal for both of us. For a cafe of this size I don’t think it would be too much to expect better facilities for young patrons. (Ikea do a great highchair for £17)"

"I can't believe we hadn't tried this place sooner! We decided to order from Bella Bella for the first time and had two pizzas and two cannoli delivered. They called to confirm our order that was placed on their website and accommodated our requested delivery time of 7pm, which was an hour and a half after we ordered. Our order arrived right on time at 7pm, with the pizzas piping hot and the desserts packaged separately. The pizzas were fantastic, and as someone who regularly visits family in Italy, I have high standards for pizza - this was the closest to authentic Italian pizza I've had in the UK. The cannoli were also delicious. We really appreciated the extra drinks too. Thank you for the excellent service and amazing food! We will definitely be returning."

"The service at this restaurant was terrible. We booked a table for 12 people and let them know two guests had food allergies that needed to be accommodated. However, when we arrived, the staff member was rude and unhelpful. Despite their menu stating to inform staff of any allergies, the staff member showed little concern and was also rude about the situation. The two guests with allergies had to leave and eat elsewhere because of this. The service was subpar, the customer interaction was dreadful, and overall, it was a disappointing experience. I do not recommend this restaurant to others. It seems they falsely advertise that they cater to allergies, but in reality, they do not and are not accommodating. Also, there are no vegetarian options available. It's best to avoid this establishment."

"Really disappointing visit! Visiting this beautiful town and thought we 'd stop for a spot of lunch. Ordered the BLT 1/2 pounder burger of the special menu (not a chance did I get home made chips). My partner ordered a double cheese half pounder. This came as a quarter pounder. When he politely said he ordered a half pound burger the male making the food rudely grabbed the ticket and said 'Well that 's not what you ordered ' and if you want that then you 'll need to pay for it ' Clearly the polite young lady on the counter made a mistake with the order to which we have no issue and my partner would have happily paid any difference in price to get what he ordered. What was really poor was the rude response from the man in the kitchen. Would not recommend!"
