"I don't think Ciao Bella knows what it wants to be, Is it an italian, a carvery or a steakhouse? When my partner I visited on a Wednesday we were seated and asked what drinks we would like, I asked what lager is on...tap, they said just Carling, which for an Italian is pretty unusual, was kind of expecting Peroni or tti, but as that was the only choice that's what we had, some water was supposed to come but only the Carling turned up so had to ask for water again, then another two Carling came over and the girl looked very confused that we already had our drinks and then kind of stared at us for a bit from the bar, along with a few other staff, bit off putting being stared at but ok. couple of menu's were handed to us, regular menu and a steak night menu, we wanted Italian so kept with the Italian menu, we ordered our starter which was a calamari to share, really greasy and loads of garlic but edible, then mains we both had penne pasta rustica, it was alright, but unfortunately loads of garlic again, ingredients seemed like the cheap processed meat but again was edible, staff only came over to ask if everything ok with the meal once we had finished. Toilets had no toilet paper and we were one of the first in to be seated so obviously hadn't been checked, the decor is weird, seems more like a tiki hut kind of place rather than somewhere you would visit in Italy, although it was clean and well kept. Shame as I really wanted this to be a regular place we could visit as there aren't many decent Italian Restaurants around the area. Didn't have dessert as we were getting a bit paranoid being stared at and the not so great food and service, won't return but hopefully they can concentrate on being an Italian that serves good quality food and drink with good service in the future."

"This is a beautiful building steeped in history. Built in 1472, many original features are there to this day. Very quirky and fun. Rooms are comfortable, breakfast superb, chef is great fun to talk to. However, a few disappointments. We booked this place in particular because in addition to the historical interest, it boasts of real ales, lunch and bar snacks. So having booked our rooms we arrived for lunch ahead of the check in time of 3pm to find it locked up and in darkness, no reply to the doorbell. So actually they do not serve lunch. Or any Real Ales the taps were covered. We had booked 5 rooms between 9 people, so potentially quite a lucrative group of guests. When the bar finally opened at 5pm we asked what time we needed to be back from our meal in town in order to have a couple of nightcaps before bed. We were told 11pm. Upon returning just before 10.45pm, found the hotel locked and in darkness. No reply to the doorbell. Having specifically arranged this, and not even asking for extended hours, this was pretty unacceptable as we would have stayed in town for longer. The bedding is very tired and in the £95 per night room, no shower just a hand held shower head with no bracket on the wall to attach it to. I would go back, although would have lower expectations. The website should be changed to reflect that off season, the hotel does not open for lunch and the evening bar is subject to discretion. Maybe the room prices should be reduced to reflect this. In the event, being in a large group, it didn't spoil our stay. However, if it had just been a couple, I suspect it would have marred the visit."
