"I’ve eaten here before over many years and was very surprised to find how quiet it was here on the night. Having been travelling to the other side of the world and back for the last few months I was looking forward to real British carvery, with maybe a beer, so when visiting life long friends in Bromsgrove we decided to splash out on a 6:30 pm trip for dinner. It’s a pub of two half’s, with the old roadside part of restaurant bar and a larger glass filled seating extension over looking the canal, so there’s plenty of room if it gets busy, but we always phone for a booking first to ensure that the carvery is actually on. Thing is now days, since recent events in the U.K. demand has somewhat dropped so we’ve lost a lot of good eateries especially those that are away from main roads in the countryside and as I said before there were only a few tables in use with maybe 30 people seated in the older area. We were greeted by the young lady at the bar and pointed to our table for 4. She then came over to take our drinks order but as we weren’t ordering anything from the food menu just carvery’s she and her colleague were soon back with our drinks and carvery tickets. Now my mate had a pint of draft Doom Bar, which I know can be a little challenging to present for the smaller establishment as transporting and tapping times can vary flavour, but he was very happy with his. The ladies had one half of a Guinness, and a half of shandy beer, both of which were fully drained over the course of the meal , a very good sign indeed, as the ladies are never shy of comment on food or drink. For myself I tried a pint of TimothyTaylor, which is a very big treat for me, as my love of beers has been strictly curtailed due to health problems, so I was extremely happy to report that the pint not only passed muster it was very tasty. Now onto the food, this may be of interest to those who’ve never visited before. The carvery is set out behind a Covid Screen, with the chef presenting your choice of meat with another staff member, filling up the plate to your orders as you go. Some may find this upsetting thinking you don’t get what you want or as much. Rubbish. Forewarned is forearmed, don’t be shy. I asked for and got three slices of beef and turkey each as I do not like pork or ham as much. As for the veg, and there was a lot of choice here, and they did not skimp on any of the servings, at all! Why the chef even presented me with a boat of extra gravy to help was down the vast amount of vegetables. So my advice is to take your time, be assertive as to your choices and amounts but be aware that at busier times it may take a little longer so send up your slower eaters first. Being with my wife, who is a professional carvery eating specialist, I can report everything was very tasty. For myself the Yorkshire puddings were slightly over done, however they still remained soft inside and with the gravy, mmmmmmmm. My favourite. The turkey was moist with loads of flavour, the beef very good. Now root veg can be a little changeable over the year but all the carrot , parsnips, swede tasted fine. The cauliflower cheese, garlic potatoes absolutely perfect, not as good as my Moms of course but still a very good second. Peas, sprouts, roast potatoes all very good, and as I missed out in a tradition Christmas dinner this year I was very happy to see the sprouts. There were more veg on offer , sweetcorn kernels , boiled potatoes, cabbage etc but I’d over indulged on my choices so the plate was full, hence the extra gravy boat. Over all what did the four of us think? Drinks good. Food very good Service very good indeed 5 stars? NO…… 4 half yes. Folks it’s a restaurant, still running after all the c**p the last few years has thrown at it, many such places have closed or fallen well below par, this place has managed to stay afloat. There appeared to be three staff on , maybe more in kitchen but all three did an excellent job though out the time we were there. The results was Four very full happy diners. So thanks again Eagle Sun, we will return yet again."

"I was travelling alone saw the indow sign for sunday 'banquet ' 4 courses [actualy 3 fo £10.95. I walked in the waiter gave me a look like i 'd yrod in something and walked it thru his resteraunt. I was wearing jeans a smart t shirt so its unclear what he didnt like about me. I asked for a table for 1 for the offer and he said You have to pay cash for that . As if i looked like i could not afford to pay. I said thats fine and he sst me in an alcove with a stairs over my head. Only two other tables were in use. I asked if non alcholic beers were avaible and as not i had a diet cola with ice. I ordered a prawn puri starter whivh was served with a small salad. The bread was crisp puffu, the prawns sweet tender in a delicately spiced sauce. Perfect. I asked for Lamb jhalfrezi main with tice psid extra for a plain naan. The waiter heated up the main dish at the table on s camping stove on a hostess trolley. Dinner Theatre! The meal was served in a ballti pan on a skillet ring. I should hsve asked for a plate. The lamb was sparce, just 3 pieces, loads of onion two thin strips of green pepper a couple of green chiles. Perhaps you get more when nit ordering the banquet but tnis was a measly serving. The rice was fluffy , the bread flufy and tasty but i would have liked some tandoor char on the back. I had pistachio kulfi to end which was pleasant. Each dish was cleared as i finished it. On paying, another waiter stated the fee then took mmy £20 note, put it in his pocket turned to speak to another cudtomer who just entered. I stood there immobile until he went to the till to make my change . I can hardly believe he just assumed a £4 tip without waiting for me to give it. ****** cheek! Overall i have never felt so unwelcome poorly treated in a resteraunt, the food is good but service is terrible. I won 't be going back. What is wrong in droitwhich?"

"As it was our anniversary, we decided that for our meal out we’d just do the local pub grub rather than one of the other more dedicated restaurants locally. Huge mistake! Firstly, they did not have Port and the young lady behind the bar had never heard of it. These things happen and we ordered other drinks. We ordered the buttermilk chicken starters, one with the standard bbq sauce but the other with salsa on the side. They both turned up with salsa on the side. Oh well, we just got on with it. My husband then ordered the mixed grill with the steak to be cooked medium rare and I ordered the rump steak to be cooked just medium and no mushrooms. After an extremely long wait the food finally arrived, totally unseasoned, completely overcooked with peas that looked like they were left over from yesterday. My steak was inedible, I tried various different parts in an effort to find a piece that wasn’t well done, burnt or full of gristle but was unsuccessful. My husband’s steak was also well done and gristly but he tried to eat the edible portions of the other meal components but these were few and far between. For the first time ever, we walked out and left the meals there. I spoke to one of the staff as we left, informing her of the inedible food and she asked if we would like it re-done. Having experienced the previous effort, we declined and left. We will not be returning nor recommending to friends and neighbours."

"I have always loved this Hotel. This December was our 4th visit. However, it’s not a great place to eat, if you have food allergies now. The menus both for breakfast and an evening meal have the minimum of choice. I’m Celiac and dairy free and was shocked that there is no alternative choices for anything. The breakfast is not good at all and other than requesting gf bread which you have to ask for and you only receive one postage stamp piece of it ! The rest of the breakfast you are left with the minimum amount of choice that are safe to eat. It was sad that’s there is no dairy free yogurt no GF cereal no gf pastries or biscuits. Couldn’t even eat the sausages or mushrooms this very much limits what I would call ‘the hearty breakfast’. If you like sitting watching people tuck in then it’s the place to be! We found the evening meal just as limiting I couldn’t even have any potatoes with any meal no starter other than veg and unless you like garden salad or plain vegetables with a steak your pretty much stuck. This is really rather poor for a hotel restaurant of this standard. Luckily most local restaurants cafe have an abundance of choice so I didn’t starve snd the food in establishments was over and above both in quality and choice. But it’s put a damper on whether I would return which is sad because I have always enjoyed staying at this hotel until now."

"Our welcome wasn't a particularly friendly or engaging one and not even a smile; it was like the Marie Celeste! We had a drink whilst making our lunch selection and the Manager (who's attire was a little unkempt and not in keeping for someone at her level) took our order. There was an option to order a pasta dish as both a starter and as a main course and my husband was very clear that he wanted this as a main. We were the only people in the sizeable restaurant, no water was offered (which we find is standard) and the bread to accompany our starter arrived after we'd finished eating! My main was delivered but they'd produced a second starter for my husband as his main course. Instead of removing this when we explained it had been ordered as a main course serving, they left him with his starter and then brought him another so he's now had 3 starters instead of 1 starter and 1 main course. Not the end of the world, but this is pretty poor. Whilst the food is much improved on our visit from a few years ago, that's about the only thing that has; albeit my main was somewhat lacking in vegetables. I ordered chicken and chips but it didn't even come with peas or some other suitably matched vegetable. There was absolutely no atmosphere, no music, it was dark, we felt like an inconvenience and if you don't want to serve and open for Sunday lunch then don't. It would be far better than the experience we had. We've tried this place so many times over the years in the hopes it would match the grandeur of the building, but sadly it's seriously lacking and very disappointing certainly for a Sunday lunch visit. We won't be re visiting and wouldn't recommend. We get the impression they're not interested in engaging and encouraging locals to use this venue and would prefer to have the business traveller and/or overnight guests only. If this is the experience, then you're welcome to concentrate your efforts on your preference."
