"I won a Facebook competition for a free night here in a whirlpool suite. it was amazing that eating was nice, especially the puppies in a sawn and stylton sauce! hubby had to begin deaf breast and then the bolton abbey lamb chops! he said it was the best thing he ever had. a cheeseboard and then weeping to follow! the service we received was fantastic! we felt very welcome and did not hurry when we asked for a delay in front of the cheeseboard. the whirlpool suite was amazing. we sat until late with the feenlicht up and relaxing. we're coming back. thanks to Veronica and martin"

"We enjoyed some great food at Bollywood Cottage when we went to celebrate my birthday whilst staying in a nearby cottage. We shared a mixed starter, which was all good. My wife chose the chicken shashlik (a favourite of hers whenever she sees in on a menu! . It was well spiced, and there was plenty of it; both chicken and accompanying peppers, tomatoes and fried onions. The waiter advised a small rice with it, which was plenty. Meanwhile I decided on a lamb biryani, which came served on a delicious flat omelette, and with a very tasty sauce. My son had secretly contacted the restaurant to arrange a surprise birthday dessert, and for the restaurant to telephone him in Scotland when we’d finished our meal so he could pay the bill! Now that’s what I call service beyond the call of duty by the restaurant and a great birthday present!"

"our second visit in two nights enjoyed it so much that we returned to the first time. jade was our server at the first visit, we sat in the library and celebrated our jubileee. we both ordered the rib-eye steak, both cooked for perfection and so tasty, best I had in a long time. our server tonight was jack, very attentive, didn't have to wait long until the food arrives, which was hot and delicious again. jack reviewed us a short time later to make sure we were satisfied with everything and how everything was in order to enjoy us. empty plates quickly deleted and jack returned to see if we need dessert. we decided to share one as we were a little full. When we asked about the bill, we didn't have to wait until she arrives. both jack and the previous night server are a credit to the old swan, nothing was too much annoyed and we felt very well looked after, thank you both.(sorry no photo’s, forgot, it cost too much)"

"For a wonderful afternoon out, The Bull at Broughton is superb. Enjoy a walk around the Broughton Estate and then enjoy fine food from a traditional Sunday lunch to an varied a la carte menu. Friendly staff welcome you and it’s dog friendly too! (Need to book). Already looking forward to returning. Even if it’s for the take-away option being offered during these Covid times. 5 star! "On a side note, I had an interesting conversation with a local canal lock worker. It started off well, but then he began to share some rather outlandish conspiracy theories about perpetual energy machines and his belief that Michelle Obama is actually a man, as well as his view that Trump is a good leader. He challenged me on how I could say that America doesn't like him if we elected him, and I simply told him I didn't have enough time to explain how the electoral college works and why everything he was saying was completely misguided. But back to the restaurant—it's definitely a five-star establishment. As for that guy, I’d have to give him negative five stars!"
