"Walked in without a reservation and although several tables stayed empty throughout our visit, a great show was made of laying a table in front of the bar away from the other guests (who were clearly all locals). When I say laying the table I use the term loosely. Whilst all the other tables were adorned with linen, nice glasses and napkins, ours was given a very perfunctory wipe by the chef and then decorated with pre-loved paper placemats, warped with other people's condensation, or whatever else it may have been, I dread to think. The service got slightly better and friendlier after that, but I cannot think why we were received that way? My French is ok but less than perfect, or maybe it was because of the kids?We ordered entrecotes and mignon de porch with maroilles sauce. Steak was tasty, tender and poked to perfection and the pork with cheese sauce was scrum my, as were the home-made fries. Brits would love them, they should have come wrapped in newspaper. So the food was good and the prices decent, but I honestly can't get over the table setting. Very odd, and very silly."

We choosed this restaurant because it was numer 3 in Laon or environment. Sorry you're wrong. This restaurant should be number 1. I never had a lamb as fantastic as here. My wife enjoyed her fish plate. And most of all we've enjoyed "l'accueil chaleureux".

Stopped on Boxing day night for a meal in this lovely restaurent. We phoned ahead and booked but it was very quiet. We were a group of five. Greeted warmly and nothing was too much trouble. Moules were delicious as was the steak and the children's steak hache.

Lovely authentic food, lovely atmosphere. we had the set menu which was very good value. Escargot was beautiful. We had steak in mushroom sauce with fries and caramelised rib with fries. Steak was tender, mushroom sauce was amazing and handmade French fries were fantastic, ribs were great! We had profiteroles for dessert but were so full we couldn't finish them!Best meal we have had in France!

We stayed locally at Center Parcs and didn't want to fork out lots of euros for a rubbish meal. We had driven past this restaurant on the way and thought it looked nice. We weren't disappointed, the food was lovely. Great attention to detail from the snack with your apperitif, the amuse bouche and the delicious sauce on the steak and veal. The teens were worried they wouldn't find something to eat but were very happy with their steak and frites. The steak was so large it was a challenge for them to get through it. Enjoy this little gem but don't expect them to speak English. This is a truely local french restaurant which is why it is so special.

We went here last saturday to have lunch and we were the only guests. Nice looking interior, friendly service and very clean restaurant. We took the menu of 26,00 euro which consisted of an entree - choise between either snails and a tarte tatin of chicon and a local cheese - which was very good. Then we had also a choise of a main course between a turkey and cod nicoise. The cod I had was good, but the sauce was a bit too tomated. As desert we took the charlotte aux poires, which was about the second best desert I had in my whole life. It's a pity I can't give a 4,5 out of 5, because otherwise I would. My dad had the mussles with curry, which were also very good. A very nice experience.

We booked on the strength of the reviews and four of us went for dinner on Sunday evening. The staff were friendly and welcoming and the chef wanted us to park our classic cars outside the main door. The restaurant is in a great location with off road parking, rustic and very well presented. We had a house carafe of red and white both of which were very good. My starter was great I liked my main which was which was 3 pieces of fish on 3 different vegetable pates of which one unfortunately, was that woody was inedible. The blow torch that was used on the creme brulee made the top sutty and taste of gas. The pork main was in a source with chips although very good was simple. Although we liked...

We stopped in Laon last Friday night en route to the Alps. Going on the Trip advisor reviews we sought out this restaurant about 5 minutes drive from Laon. We hadn't book. When we arrived just after 7pm the place was empty except 2 ladies eating moules. I asked for a table for 3 and the Madame said it was the last one and showed us to a table. Within half an hour the place was buzzing and after an hour it was full, all local who obviously knew one another. The food was delicious. We opted for the menus but the locals were all eating the moules and chips which were very reasonable. The children's menu steak hachet was delicious-obviously freshly made with prime beef. Fantastic meal, typically...

Having sadly noted that our favourite restaurant in Laon had closed we were looking for others to try in the area. Coming across the Au Plaisir des Mets on Tripadvisor and reading the many positive comments, we booked for the Friday and Sunday evenings when we were staying for the nearby Golf Hotel whilst attending the Laon Classic Car event. Our party of four all really enjoyed the meals with each course being perfectly cooked and very well presented. With the menu only in French you do need to be familiar with the dishes if you are not a French speaker as the staff do not appear to speak English. It is a truly lovely little village restaurant and we would thoroughly recommend it to anyone in...

"we visited this local restaurant on the strength of the recommendation of our host. big mistake. it was the worst meal we've ever been served. Forget that we were driving 5.5 hours over France on the road to home. forget that it took them an hour to bring our ancestors. And that when we asked if there was a problem, in view of a neighbor family who had come after us already had received their main, said the garçon (which may not have been older than 15) it was the salat niçoise who took a long time because “it had been many different fresh ingredients”. When the food finally arrived, it was unusable. I don't mean good. I mean, they didn't feed her dog. the much anticipated fresh Niçoise salad was completely dosen. thunfisch tinted. soggy green beans. flaccid salat. the main thing was worse. they arrived surprisingly fast and heated the steam alarmingly to a dead way for the microwave in which they had been boiled. I had laughs en croute. or so I was told. it was like the signature of my man steak galette, from deep frost. both dishes were dry, the meat and fish inedible, the sauce was thrown out of a package and with sugar, the sweet in a customs of her sorry life microwave, without a milligram remaining nutritious. my man and I found ourselves out embarrassing only eating to realize that we couldn't even do that. we are not smokey eaters. we were thrilled for something simple, basic, but that was worse than the worst medium-of-nowhere pub menu we have ever eaten to brasserie. the restaurant fascinates itself as demanding, but the decor is a mix between creepy kitsch (completely with grandfather clock) and soulless “modern” it says everything. brightly colored aperitifs are offered at the arrival, which are served with fruity. none of this would have been thanks to us that we would even have abandoned the terrible service for half a decent meal, not because of the insulting bad food. the only things we ate were the frozen mini-cabattas. whatever they do, they do not go to this restaurant."
