"It was the first time my wife and I were in Paris and I was really wanting to try a wide-range of foods and restaurants. One of the ones I had looked at before our trip was Bouillon Racine, as I was looking to dine in at least one Art Nouveau style restaurant during our visit. It didn’t quite make it to the list of meals I reserved a time for, but during our first night in Paris we were looking for a place to eat after leaving the amazing Luxembourg Gardens, and when we came across Rue Racine I knew the restaurant couldn’t be far away so that’s where we headed. While it was on the early side and the restaurant was only half-full, I knew that didn’t mean tables would be available as they could be reserved for later on, so I was relieved when we were offered a nice table downstairs. Throughout the night, everyone from the host to the server were all professional and polite. When I wasn’t quite able to understand something in French they kindly assisted me by switching to English. The restaurant was absolutely gorgeous and emitted a true sense of history and charm. I was facing the front window, which meant my wife had a better view of the restaurant, but I was often turning around to see the lovely colors and whimsical accents of the elegant and beautiful Art Nouveau style. The decor alone made this worth the stop.We received a basket of nice bread and we both started with the cold cream of avocado and spinach with goat cheese. I personally hadn’t had much experience with cold “soups”, but it was a hot day and I found this most refreshing. It was a flavor I wasn’t use to, but the more of it I had the more I liked the rich creamy texture and the cubes of tasty goat cheese mixed in. My wife doesn’t care for avocado so she didn’t like it much, but she could tell it was of good quality (being a pescatarian there were not many other starters for her to order, which is why she thought she'd try this one).We both thoroughly enjoyed our mains, my wife opting for the vegetarian platter and I went with the beef fillet with mashed potatoes. The vegetarian platter consisted of many flavors and items: Organic vegetables, wild rice with onions, quinoa, and spinach with orange vinaigrette. The ingredients were all plated nicely and had it was easy for her to tell they were cooked properly and with care. Everything went nicely together and was a very nicely composed vegetarian-option dish. My wife enjoyed it to the very last bite.My beef fillet dish made for a fantastic first dinner in Paris. It was juicy, had a gentle yet flavorful char, and was a perfect medium. The rich sauce it was served with was absolutely delicious, and the potatoes were silky smooth and wonderful. Even though it wasn’t a cheap option, it was far superior to many steaks I’ve paid more money for in other restaurants. As we were rather full, we didn’t opt for dessert, but the items on the menu sounded quite good. This wasn’t our best meal in Paris but it was certainly a very good one at this price point. Add in the lovely Art Noveau décor and it really was a wonderful overall meal. I can’t quite find myself giving the top rating compared to so many other Paris dining options, but it is easily a solid '4' and I'd give a 4.5 if I could."
