"When I moved two years ago around Smithfield market I didn't know I chose the best area for a Southwestern French girl to live. The surrounding area of Smithfield market is like being in my hometown Toulouse with Club gascon, Cellar Gascon and Comptoir Gascon around. Lucky me I have my three local pubs to remind me I am living in UK Sometimes a nice restaurant is the simplest one. Compare to its sister restaurant Club Gascon, Comptoir Gascon offers simpler and traditional dishes from the Southwest of France. Last time I went for dinner I shared a platter of piggy treats with my friend, I just find a bit weird they didn't include any bread with this dish. If you want some bread you...read more"

Affordable luxury at Comptoir Gascon a truffle and foie gras slider for under a tenner, more duck than you know what to do with.

a real tasty bite. what a great little place that is. the entenrillettes were excellent, the pork tender, the service charming, and the whole experience on a Saturday lunch time a joy.

which service?. on Friday evening at 19 o'clock arrived, place was 2/3 full, ordered starter and net. the starters for 3 were a piece of terrine, roulette, oysters. two bottles of wine. remove them, took 45 minutes to cut terrine and open 6 oysters. 1.45 for the main course. asked for bill, came in 30 seconds. service away. I just don't want us here.

...indeed excellent with a superb cassoulet and delicious garlicky snails – just what you want when you fancy a culinary trip across the Channel without actually getting on the Eurostar. However, as a burger joint I think CG has a long way to go to unseat the current ruling grillmasters. It’s a different burger, to be far, with CG’s being made from duck as opposed to the traditional beef, but still falls short on common elements. And it’s not cheap either.

nice eating. my wife and I celebrated our wedding anniversary last night! I thought the actual place was very cozy and beautiful. we shared the truffle foie gras signature Burger/Slider as starter. it was heavenly. melt in the mouth foie gras with a very sublime taste and super moist. for the net we both ordered the confit duck bein with aromatic aubergine together with the French fries in duck fat and crazy salt boiled. the pommes were a manifestation! my only tiny weight was that some parts of the bone were a little strict and dry. the outer skin was perfectly crisp and moistened by the fat. drool! we shared the chocolate fond (w/...more)

fair ralentir. was recently with some friends in farringdon. we were in the pub for a beer and were looking for a place to eat. we went past the window of this place and from the outside it looks cozy and in a cold night with its Bistro French farm domestic view. we got in and grabbed a table. we ordered weeping and eating at the same time and at this place the restaurant was not busy. we all ordered cold starters. how long does it take to supply 3 cold appetizers about 45 minutes apparently! I had the baskenpate to begin what was in order to follow I had casoulet, which was a little dry and ground. the main course also took an old and a day to arrive...read more

Promised well, delivered badly. Went here on a Saturday evening and had been looking forward to it after seeing some good reviews But.... our waitress didn't smile once and was unbelievably unhelpful in explaining the menu under the duck' section is a salad. We asked for more info and was told, it's duck...with salad She seemed unable or unwilling to help any further than that When the meals arrived, one came out undercooked (poussin isn't supposed to drip blood). An apology from a different and admittedly happier waitress as it was taken away, and then nothing ....for ages.....apart from all the staff avoiding eye contact with our table Eventually when the...read more

A rustic bit of South West France. Lunch at Comptoir Gascon felt casual relaxed. Service was pleasant, efficient concise, yet knowledgeable when asked about the food. I enjoyed a pure tasting velvety pumpkin soup it was very well creamed, turning out a colour of bright sunshine yellow instead of the gourd's natural orange. I also tried a seasonal special of white asparagus from Landes but felt it lacked sweetness as I've tasted more flavoursome spears in Paris. Another special of bbq duck burger was well made dense, succulent, pink, well seasoned flavoursome, but felt the artisan bread could be fluffier. Fries were good, cooked in goose fat I believe. Citrus Mystery' was a...read more

Comptoir Gascon is a small French bistro on Charterhouse Street, opposite Smithfield market. Part of the gastronomical Gascon group including Michelin starred Club Gascon and bar Celler Gascon with a strong focus of food from Gascony. Think duck, foie gras and truffle. Bread and Butter Piggy Treats Evening service starts at 6:30pm, so we were under huge time constraint. I placed my order of cassoulet the minute I sat down so the kitchen will have enough time to cook it. Me and Mr T shared a starter of piggy treats (loved the name), a platter of pig made in various way of pressed, cured and sliced. Obviously Gascon took great care of choosing the charcuterie, it was outstanding...read more
