"We made a last minute reservation and were warmly welcomed as soon as we arrived. The room was very spacious and of high quality, with a comfortable super king bed. We enjoyed a delicious dinner here and the food was excellent. After dinner, we relaxed with some drinks by the cozy log burner. The breakfast was also delicious and the chef was accommodating to our requests, even if they were not on the menu. Overall, it was well worth the money we paid."

yesterday evening. clean and tidy and staff very friendly. really nice place and great eating .9 from 10 .bed was really creaky but wonderful place apart from that

I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone. The food was deliciously prepared and the staff were friendly and attentive. We had a wonderful experience and will definitely be returning soon.

great! have been a few times and always very good eating, but it is the atmosphere and service that highlight this place, came on Saturday for a 50th birthday party, in our party were 30 people, everything ran very smooth, very well organized, timings were on place that was excellent and we all had a very good time, I would highly recommend to book here for a big party of people before they could create a very good birthday. thanks fantinos!

"We were on a short break in Thirsk in late September and looked for a pub that did food. We walked into the Black Lion and were immediately given a very friendly welcome by the landlord/owner and the locals already in there. We spotted some people with what looked like nice meals at the back so asked if we could have a drink first and then have something to eat. Of course! was the reply. When I mentioned that the lady in our party needed a bright table because of an eye problem, the locals, immediately, without being asked, got up from a brightly lit round table in the window and guided us to it. Our drinks were delivered to the table as soon as we were ready for another round, and then when our meals arrived, the food was lovely. The landlord had put us on a tab when we arrived and when we paid at the end of the evening, the cost was very reasonable. The landlord had even sent someone to the local shop to get orange juice, because they had run out, for one of our drinks. The beer was really nice as well. We were that impressed that we booked for the next night, and when we arrived they had set out the same brightly lit table in the window for us. Very nice thank you. We again had some more rounds of their delicious beers, and then a very nice meal again. All in all a great duo of nights. We will return to Thirsk and will definitely visit the Black Lion again."

"Although not local we don't mind the 45 min drive to eat here. Great food, really good prices, good portions, good staff although occasionally slightly inattentive but nothing to worry about. Nice atmosphere, always busy. We especially love the kids menu as it's something like 7quid for the children to eat some decent food with a drink and desert, when you think a happy meal and ice cream from MCshit is a fiver at least.... And the adult 2 course happy hour is great value."

"Went to the Little 3 in Thirsk for a night out to see a band play. It was a lovely evening the pub is hospitable and the outside beer garden area is fine. But there was a weird problem. I ordered a Bacardi and coke my date said she could taste no Bacardi. She was right. I ordered a second one, this time without ice. Same thing. No taste of Bacardi, no smell of Bacardi, nothing. I was quite sober as I was driving. And my date always feels the effect of one, let alone two, Bacardis but was feeling nothing at all. I checked with a third person, a guy who was also sober as he too was driving. He also could not detect any Bacardi at all. Now, it may be that all three of us were mistaken I should perhaps have ordered a neat Bacardi on its own to check what I was actually buying. Could it be that the Bacardi as sold is being watered down? I don't know and don't want to be unfair to this pub. But three adults, none of whom were drunk, were unable to detect any Bacardi at all in two successive Bacardi cokes. Make of that what you will."

"We visited the dog and gun on Thursday 5th jan for a meal at 6pm with 2 familys on a holiday break at woodland lakes lodges. We booked in advanced and was very welcomed by terry and lesley when we arrived. We opened a tab and ordered some drinks. The waiter was so accommodating with our food orders and lesley came up trumps with some gorgeous food. We had a bit of everything of the menu from starters to deserts and all of it was superb. We have kids between ages 1-10 years and soon as the kids had finished the ice cream lesley and terry put on disco lights and some music. We had a right laugh dancing and having fun. Darts and a Pool table also was a nice addition aswell. Would really like to thank Lesley,Terry and the barman and waitress who really made our last night at Thirsk one to remember. The lodges at woodland lakes were a nice little find but the dog and gun definitely were the highlight of our stay. We cant wait to book again for next year just to see lesleys dance moves "

"This USED to be a great value place to eat and drink. BUT now it’s really downgraded. Don’t get me wrong if you enjoy the staffs screaming kids running around bumping into to you then its the place to go. The food used to be hot tasty and a realistic price but now its all frozen veg overpriced small cold portions and pricey beers. The toilets always stink. Still no lock on the ladies door. The outside area is always a drab mess which when nice weather has the same kids kicking footballs about. The staff always look miserable and non helpful and treat it as a family crèche and family gathering event rather than immerse themselves into what could be a rather profitable business. Give this place a swerve ….. don’t get me started on The Vale of York either "
