"We visited our old favourite Hartley’s again this evening for only the second time in 2023. We always have a lovely time here but we are guilty sometimes of forgetting just how good the food is! To put it into context we have become “foodies” over the last few years having been spoiled by annual trips to France and a few Michelin Star experiences in the UK. Tonight we went back to the fabulous friendly and laid back experience that epitomises our favourite local restaurant, Hartley’s. From the minute we walked in, it was the usual friendly welcome and banter and wow was the food “on point”. Mrs D had the bruschetta freeing me to have the Squid and both were fabulous. Let’s be honest I don’t really like salad, but the one they do with the squid I could happily just eat on its own and with the pickle it so complements the subtle taste of the squid. For mains I had the sublimely balanced gammon with cream sauce, poached egg potatoes and cabbage. How well each element complements one another, The better half enjoyed the Seabass, which from my shared forkful was equally lovely. I had the delicate rhubarb and ginger crumble for pud while the missus had STP. All washed down with a lovely Chilean Merlot! What a fabulous evening! I said to JD “sometimes we do forget just how good this place is” 5 stars tonight only because I couldn’t give 6!"

"I just had an amazing three-course Sunday lunch that included a delightful sweet soup, tender lamb, and the best chocolate fudge brownie I've had in a long time. The service was excellent as well! While I usually enjoy breaking bread, I couldn't resist leaving any of the food behind. I highly recommend this place!"

"We visited as we were staying locally on holiday. We don't usually bother with Italian restaurants because we find Italian a bit samey but as eateries were limited nearby, we gave it a go. It was hit and miss. We both had the prawn cocktail, I found the sauce too vinegary, but hubby loved the tangy sauce. I had carbonara, it was really good. Hubby had the lasagne, huge portion but he said it was quite boring. It may be how it's made traditionally and to a simple recipe perhaps, but it was just a tomato-ey taste, and that was all. I tasted it too, and thought the same. So he was very disappointed. Not much bechamel sauce on it or cheese. He declined black Pepper or parmesan but it might have made it a bit more interesting maybe. Really good tiramisu, light and creamy. Hubby had lemon cheesecake which was good."

"We had an absolutely terrible dining experience at this restaurant. It is not vegetarian-friendly as the vegetarian meals were unexpectedly served with a stuffed cabbage parcel containing bacon, which was not mentioned on the menu. When we brought this to the attention of both the waitress and the manager, they seemed unaware that serving a bacon dish with a vegetarian option was an issue. Eventually, they offered to remove it from the plate. The dauphinoise potatoes appeared to be made with cream on tinned potatoes, and the colcannon mash was simply a bowl of mash. The mains all tasted like frozen meals and the service was incredibly slow, with our mains not being served until 9 pm despite arriving at 7 pm with only six people ahead of us. It is strongly advised to avoid this place at all costs."

"Frankly, I would not even rate this one star because this place was that bad. The customer service was so trash and the people taking the order were so rude. When I ordered a few naan they refused to take my order, moreover, when I wanted to know this size of a naan they said they couldn’t and told me to get out. I was very angry because i was visiting from a faraway place for a holiday and didn’t expect this of a so called fully licensed takeaway and they also had the audacity to ask for a tip too. Please save your energy and don’t go there!!! I wouldn’t recommend this at all whatsoever. Very disappointed and a total waste of time. I have been to other Indian takeaways and this is the worst one I have ever been."
