"I just had an amazing three-course Sunday lunch that included a delightful sweet soup, tender lamb, and the best chocolate fudge brownie I've had in a long time. The service was excellent as well! While I usually enjoy breaking bread, I couldn't resist leaving any of the food behind. I highly recommend this place!"

I attended a funeral tea today. The food was good, and the staff were very nice. However, there were no hot beverages available for the older guests, and it was quite cold. Overall, I would rate the food at 4, the service at 3, and the atmosphere at 5. Speisekarte ansehen

Came here after reading good reviews on google, rang and they were able to fit us in no problem. Amazing food and really nice atmosphere, could do with turning up the heating but apart from that was the nicest pub we've been to on our trip and I would 100% recommend. "We visited our old favourite Hartley’s again this evening for only the second time in 2023. We always have a lovely time here but we are guilty sometimes of forgetting just how good the food is! To put it into context we have become “foodies” over the last few years having been spoiled by annual trips to France and a few Michelin Star experiences in the UK. Tonight we went back to the fabulous friendly and laid back experience that epitomises our favourite local restaurant, Hartley’s. From the minute we walked in, it was the usual friendly welcome and banter and wow was the food “on point”. Mrs D had the bruschetta freeing me to have the Squid and both were fabulous. Let’s be honest I don’t really like salad, but the one they do with the squid I could happily just eat on its own and with the pickle it so complements the subtle taste of the squid. For mains I had the sublimely balanced gammon with cream sauce, poached egg potatoes and cabbage. How well each element complements one another, The better half enjoyed the Seabass, which from my shared forkful was equally lovely. I had the delicate rhubarb and ginger crumble for pud while the missus had STP. All washed down with a lovely Chilean Merlot! What a fabulous evening! I said to JD “sometimes we do forget just how good this place is” 5 stars tonight only because I couldn’t give 6!"

"only review I have ever written, but I loved this little place! She stayed for work. the room was nice and the staff can not do enough to make them feel welcome and eating in the pub was great and good worth I fought to spend my cost supplement had a very small problem with a leak in the room (not bothered me, but recommended above all how it was on electros dripping) renter john was here in half an hour to take a look back and do a speed repair!"

"Arranged a delivery from here during the coronavirus situation, came before predicted time. We ordered the homemade pies, chicken, ham and leek and meat and potato, both came with mushy peas and we asked for chips rather than fries. All were piping hot, excellent...chips and an accompanying tray of gravy. The chips came in their own tray and, in retrospect one portion would have easily been enough for both of us. Pies were tasty, the chicken being the nicest, the meat and potato probably needed a bit more seasoning. Quite a range of choices on their restricted Covid menu but we are very grateful to be able to get meals delivered, still being in isolation. Would certainly book from here again."

"We had a table booked for 4 covers at 7.30pm. We were running 10 minutes late but called and we were assured it was fine. We arrived at 7.40pm, placed an order for 4 starters and mains. The waitress, who was lovely came back and told us that none of our party could have starters due to our late arrival, as the kitchen closed at 8pm. We questioned it, but took it on the chin. We ate and ordered deserts. This time a member of the bar staff came and sat with us and explained that we couldn't have desert either due to our late arrival. She was clearly embarrassed and very apologetic and explained the Chef was losing his temper. We could hear banging pots and pans from a quite obviously angry Chef coming from the kitchen. The meals we were allowed to order were lovely, the waiting on staff were great and clearly bullied by the Chef. If you eat here, make sure you question a later reservation, you may only have time for a pot noodle! Awful service, we will never return."
