"First, let me state that in my opinion, I 'm not one to make a fuss about a place to get a free meal and pointless stuff like that. I refer you to previous reviews of mine if that 's what you suspect. I hate that. I do however, feel that sloppy service should be commented on. As should passive aggressive non-pleasant pleasantness that offers completely meaningless platitudes uttered by someone who wouldn 't apparently know good service if it slapped them round the face. We were in the area for a flower event and this was the nearest pub, and it looked busy on a Saturday lunchtime, with loads of seating outside. No warning signs were set off with us, so we ventured in. I am always wary when bar staff are young teenagers, so that was possibly the first sign of impending trouble. Especially when there is a slow-moving slightly disgruntled queue and two more teenagers doing nothing but hovering around the bar anyway. However, we were there now. I gritted my teeth, and as the girl I actually spoke to seemed the most reliable of the three, I gave my order slowly and clearly, knowing that ordering a starter for my son and two mains for my wife and I can throw kitchens into confusion. She seemed clear. We ordered drinks, my pint was a bit short-poured but nothing worth moaning about, the wife 's gin tonic was serviceable but nothing to knock your socks off about, and a nice apple juice for the toddler. We sat outside in the garden, and that was very pleasant. Good tables, plenty of space, quite tidy. A slightly sullen girl served up my son 's meal and airily informed us that the cutlery and sauces were over there! OK, I thought, not sure I 'm going to be mad keen about paying a service charge if I 've got to do half of it myself, but whatever. 15 to 20 minutes went by. No sign of our dinner. My son was eating his dinner which was not the worst kids meal I 've ever seen but by no means the best either. Still trying to stave off the air of impending doom about our dinners I went into the bar to see where they were. The same girl who took the order originally went into the kitchen and returned saying it was on the way. No apology, no urgency, and it appears, no truthfulness either. Ten minutes later, a girl turns up, dis-interestedly takes an empty glass, so I enquired what might have become of our dinners. Another 10 minutes goes by, whereupon my wife goes in. Returns a few minutes later and says we 're going. I go in to pick up my card, tell someone what 's happened and pay for what we 've had. I really wouldn 't care to meet that person again. To infer she 's somehow doing me a favour by refunding the meals that have never arrived is really annoying. Then she tells me how the meals are *now* ready and would be going in the bin as if that 's somehow my fault. Incredible service ! All in all, the lesson here is: If you 're lucky enough that your dinner doesn 't get forgotten, you will probably have an OK meal here, but we 'll never know. But, if it doesn 't turn up, do not expect any customer service attempt to put the situation right. I appreciate, things happen, but decent people apologize. If you can 't do that, don 't run a pub."

We were staying in the area and this pub was half a mile walk and well worth it for the two meals we enjoyed. Attentive service and fabulous food. Good value for money. Would recommend.

Food in there pictures were misleading it was overpriced and not much of it £15 for a pie that had soggy pastry a couple of new potatoes and peas Then had the cheek to charge £6 for a slice of cheescake that looked like a load of slop Sorry but unlikely to return for a meal wich is a shame as its in a lovly area with live music x

We went to the H@H last night for a family celebration, what a transformation since our last visit many years ago. The owners have done a superb job restoring this wonderful old pub set in the glorious Kent countryside. The food and 'London Pride were excellent along with the very friendly staff and locals. The owner was also very friendly and took time to explain interesting aspects of the refurbishment. If you haven 't been before it is definitely worth a visit and you will not be disappointed.

Never had to moan before always had a lovely meal here. Today unfortunately didn’t go to well. Ordered our meal’s, two burgers and a chicken roast for myself. Requested cheese on both burgers, didn’t happen, a sad piece of lettuce and a very hard burger arrived with chips and the burger bun not even toasted just a dry bun. Very unusual, both not eaten. My chicken roast arrived looking ok. Unfortunately by time I ran around the garden area trying to find knife and forks as none in the cutlery area or salt, no napkins mine was cold, not happy.

Visited on the spur of the moment after a long dog walk around the Hucking Estate. Had sandwiches and a drink on a busy Sunday lunchtime session. Food drink was great, really responsibly priced. We had been worried it would be expensive but it wasn’t. Staff were friendly and chatty. We sat in the outside area initially and it was lovely to see horses tied up and riders enjoying a meal. Unfortunately the weather took a turn so we moved to the bar area. Was able to take dog in to pub with us, was made to feel welcome with the dog which isn’t always the case in ‘dog friendly ‘ establishments. Will definitely look at returning again soon.

I enjoyed the best Sunday roast ever (sorry mum at this archetypal English country pub. As well as great food (everyone in our group agreed , the staff were friendly and helpful when my daughter couldn't finish her chips, the staff member packed them up for us to take home with a tip on how best to heat them up again. We also enjoyed the live music, which we sat and listened to in the sunshine... I'd like to thank the father and daughter who helped us in a sticky spot we'd lost the key to our caravan's security lock! He (owner of the pub, I think? fetched the suitable equipment to cut through the chain for us. We really appreciated his help. And on the subject of the affiliated campsite impe...

On our first visit to the Hucking Estate we came across by chance this “oasis in the dessert “ after an hours dog walking in the rain. On arrival all of the staff were so friendly and hospitable. The first member of staff told not to worry about our rather damp appearance with two bedraggled pooches in tow. We were ushered in to what felt like a really warm and well presented pub/restaurant. It felt clean and fresh with some lovely pictures and knick knacks dotted around. We’d planned to have just a quick drink and a bag of crisps but because of the welcome and feel of the place we stayed for 3x Sunday roasts. These arrived really quickly and were hot tasty and perfectly sized. We were asked...

The location of the pub is incredible, but the Sunday lunch today was poor. The nut roast lacked seasoning, flavour and crucially any discernible nuts! It was a very strange lump of rice and mashed up kidney beans, which appeared to have been baked and then covered in gravy. Vegetables were very over cooked and mushy, and my partner’s burger was black on the outside and undercooked in the middle. The side dish that we ordered didn’t turn up, despite us asking the waitress and being told ‘she’d go and see’. When I went inside to ask for a refund of the misting side dish and give a waitress feedback, she was apologetic (it wasn’t her fault, of course), but we won’t be coming back anytime soon...

Such a shame the pub is so beautiful in a gorgeous location, but it was totally let down by the very lazy menu cooking on the occasion we visited. We went on a Sunday and it wasn't that busy when we arrived. There were a few tapas style nibbles (olives, bread), but only 2 starters (prawn cocktail and soup). I opted for the prawns, which were watery, pre frozen bullets in a very lack lustre Marie Rose sauce...with lots of water at the bottom of the cup. My husband ordered the Sunday roast chicken. It was abysmal. A very dry chicken breast, with over cooked veg (all sitting in water which did nothing for the cauli cheese), and a flat, crispy Yorkshire pud that should never have made it onto th...

"I feel a bit bad about writing this, but for the first time ever there 's only 1 star and probably the longest comments I 've left. We arrived around 12:15 on a September Thursday after having a walk hungry, we fancied a pub lunch. Staff were pleasant if a bit rushed the young lady behind the bar was on her own and doing the best she could. Several things were off the menu, but we ordered a Curry of the day (Thai Green on this occasion) and sausage mash with gravy. Difficult things to screw up... After a reasonable wait, two small dishes appeared. The Thai Curry was tiny, containing a few small bits of grilled chicken in a fairly anaemic sauce, with a small amount of plain white rice on the side; the two sausages were quite small and on a small bed of mash surrounded by gravy. Both dishes were stone cold. We sent them back. Frankly, if we hadn 't paid in advance, I 'd have left at that point. A few minutes later they re appeared, along with a small dish of sweet chilli sauce and 3 small prawn crackers, two of which were not properly cooked (still solid in parts, i.e. not cooked hot or long enough). The sausages were now hot, the mash lukewarm and the gravy cloying and still pretty cold. Being fair, the very small sausages were quite tasty, but the mash was under/not seasoned and the gravy had little flavour, no onion or anything even vaguely interesting, and was still cold. The curry was a disgrace. The rice was flaccid and tasteless, the curry had almost no flavour and the chicken was watery, and pretty grim (tasteless too). Tiny portion as well. We left the curry. I did eat the sausage mash as I was really hungry, but in retrospect wished I hadn 't. I almost never leave food anywhere in the world, but I left that curry. I 'm not sure how dishes that bad could be let out of any kitchen. We complained to the waitress (who was doing her best) she asked us not to leave and a minute or two later refunded our main courses with an apology. I felt for her as she was doing her best as front of house when the kitchen was a shocker. Note that we didn 't ask for a refund or even hint, they just provided it. I 've never asked for a refund. It 's sad, as these days rural pubs need to do things right, but this wasn 't just small things; everything they could have done wrong with those two dishes they did wrong. Nothing cooked from fresh, nothing checked before leaving the kitchen, tasteless food, tiny portions, cold."
