"I went to La Lanterna on the off chance and was more than pleasantly surprised. In what looks to be a family run business the staff were friendly and thoroughly enjoyable to be around. The restaurant was extremely busy yet the service and food was top class. The food is typical Italian and although I only had Pizza and my companions simple pasta dishes they were all delicious. With more than competitive prices and in an ideal location I can only think of positives and would recommend you go there!!"

Everything you would expect from a hole in the wall Italian restaurant and much more. I was craving a hearty lunch, so I opted for the three-course lunch menu which is popular among those looking for good value. The deal includes a choice of soup, dough balls, or potato skins for starters, a pasta or pizza dish for the main course, and coffee or the dessert of the day to finish off the meal.

This restaurant may be easy to overlook, but it is definitely worth a visit. Run by a small family who lives upstairs, this place may not have the flashy appeal of a popular restaurant. However, the food is delicious. I ordered fried goat cheese, asparagus with fried eggs, white sauce pasta, and buffalo mozzarella and tomato pizza. Everything was fantastic, although the pizza was just okay for me. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. A must-visit if you are in Edinburgh.
