"2 x couples with 3 dogs in total. Decided on a single night stay between Christmas and New Year and we were no disappointed. We have previously visited The Craven Arms as we stay in Settle a few times during the year. We arrived at lunch time on Wednesday had lunch (a hot sandwich and bowl of chunky chips) went out for the day and back for tea. Various meals had in the party. Turned in late and a very comfy bed and pillows awaited us. Morning breakfast with lots of choice from buffet to hot selection. This was a very welcomed break and we can not fault any part of the stay. All areas very clean and owners and all staff very welcoming, friendly and offered good services. Definitely worth a return visit at some point. Rooms: We had rooms 7 and 8. both spacious, clean, warm and both having a very comfy bed. One viewed out the front one out the back. Fully equipped shower room."

"Worst Indian I have ever had. We ordered poppadoms to start (got one each priced at £5) ordered an onion Bhaji to start he asked if I wanted it with my main but I said no as a starter but it still arrived with the main course. The jalfrezi was bland, not spicy. No chillis as you would usually find in a jalfrezi. Asked for a Diet Coke with my meal it never arrived so a good job it wasn’t spicy as I ate my meal with no drink. My partner got the buffet which was stone cold. The waiters response was people keep leaving the kids open . Is this not a health and safety issue? He ordered a tikka massala from the menu instead which arrived with about 3 pieces of chicken in. Told waiter the meal was rubbish but he couldn’t care less. Avoid at all costs"

"always delicious food and good service in the car and kitchen café. if the weather is good enough, it's great to sit outside and watch some people. the shop is also a favorite as there are some quirky and creative brands that they do not see in many other outlets. good for: books about eating and drinking luxury kitchen implemented and accessories gift items such as ceramic, scarves, bags and ornaments soft toys for children (jellycat similar) gift cards and luxury gift wrapping table crockery and kisses and throw designer clothes for women"

"There are two entrances/ exits and customers were arriving from both sides and we were all confused as a sign in the middle said to 'queue here... ', staff did not alert us but there was a relay of each prior customer passing information on reassuring that: 'they said it is alright at both sides ' every so often the female assistant shouted 'who 's next?! '. The male assistant greeted with a smile asking ' any fish? ' and put them in freshly to fry. All delicious and only marred by the female staff member who was particurlarly unpleasant at times and as I entered was grimacing at the male customer before me as he joked about not understanding her Yorkshire accent. Also, whilst offering the chips for me to salt and vinegar, then separately the fish and consequently wrapping up with paper but when I asked (and pointed) which way she was putting the portions on the top and bottom (so that I would know mine had lots more vinegar, barely any salt, as opposed to the opposite) when distributing outside afterwards, she bellowed in front of the packed shop: 'i don 't know what you are talking about! ' So loud that my husband heard it as he waited outside! Shortly afterwards a potential customer shouted from the opposite door at 7p.m. 'What time are you closing? ' To which she shouted 'NOW '. Not for the faint hearted here."

"Whilst staying in a holiday cottage a few hundred yards from The Craven Arms we spent a number of evenings in the pub. We were on holiday with our dog so we stayed in the bar area where dogs are permitted and we were able to eat. The restaurant area does not permit dogs. The selection of ales was good and the choice of food was enough for us to be able to vary our selection on each visit. The menu on a Sunday is different from that during the week. They also have a weekly special to go with the standard menu. Service was quick and friendly. The food was of a good standard and the cost very reasonable. The atmosphere was friendly with a number of locals coming in for drinks, or having something to eat always a good sign. The bar area is busy but not crowded, and dogs are made to feel welcome. My wife and I would recommend The Craven Arms, just make sure you book or be prepared to be served food as it can get quite busy."
