"Huge disappointment! We pre-booked to go here for my mum's birthday (5 adults) for afternoon tea. We were told we would get a chefs selection of sandwiches (we requested only 1 or 2 salmon as only 1 guest would eat them) along with the usual afternoon tea delights. First impressions weren't good, got taken to our table to be greeted by dirty tea stained cups and saucers! They came to take or orders although we had already pre ordered, this had not been communicated to anyone! The drinks arrived and we were waiting for the sandwiches to arrive shortly after but these took around 25 mins, by which time the teas and coffee were cold. We had 1 cake stand arrive, asked if there was more to come to which we were told that's it. We had observed a table for 2 receive the same triple layer cake stand for 2 of them but yet the 5 of us had the same, only with a few more sandwiches and the extra scones all crammed on the top. Once we discovered that there wasn't any more to come, and that if we were all to take the 4 quarters of a sandwich, my mum (on her birthday) would not have had a choice of filling but would have had to eat all 4 salmon sandwiches even though we said a couple at most as only one party member eats fish. Needless to say I told them to keep the £25 deposit I had already paid to cover the drinks and that we would be going elsewhere instead. To say the least it was a massive disappointment, and quite overpriced, basically you get the following: 4 quarters of a sandwich £14 1 X fruit or plain scone £5 1 Slice of cake £5 1 drink tea/coffee/soft drink etc £5 Price per person £24! Will not be back, and wouldn't recommend."

The weakest and worst coffee I've ever tasted. Took it back, they added an espresso on top of it, yet it made no difference! Weak, bad taste. Never again.

This tea shop is located next to Cardiff Castle, so it attracts a lot of tourists. However, the cakes and lunch items are incredibly delicious, and the staff are great even when it's busy. The takeout window is perfect for enjoying a snack in the park behind the shop.

Visited for afternoon tea as a treat off my daughter. Although we enjoyed it as other reviewers have said the tea arrives a long time before everything else. I thought the plain scone was lovely I brought my cake home because I was too full. I asked to sit outside because it was a hot day but was told no. It is very small inside and we couldn't stretch our legs because of the shape of the table frame. Staff were very friendly

Having read previous reviews, decided to take family members for afternoon tea. We were told they didn't do afternoon tea after 3:00, so settled for scones cup of tea instead. The new people do not understand how to make tea. We counted 3 tea leaves in the pot. Asked for some more leaves to be in and was told, you need to give to more time. Half an hour later, cold weak tea did not improve !! I'm 69 years old and have never been given such dishwater. The scones were lovely.

4 May 2019 Wow am I stuffed. An afternoon tea for 1 can go for 3 people. I came here on an empty stomach and so stuffed. I had to pack up the rest to eat later. Clearly not had many afternoon teas in my life. I enjoyed the Vegan Afternoon which came with 1 slice of mango vanilla cake, 1 scone with vegan margarine jam, 1 sandwich of cucumber sourcream the other cheese tomato and a half shot latte with oat milk. They have a selection of 2 vegan cakes, 2vegan fruit or plain scones 4 vegan sandwiches. I strongly recommend this place. It can get very busy as it seems to be very popular. Perhaps book a place. The staff were friendly too, though looked a little stressed, perhaps as it can be busy....

This used to be my favorite spot for afternoon tea. The food was great and worth the money. However, to be straightforward, I will never go back again. The food was okay, but the bread in our sandwiches was cold and hard. The crusts were difficult to eat. The tea had very few tea leaves (5 leaves as if the teapot hadn't been cleaned) and the cutlery was dirty. The cream and jam for the scones came in a small pot for three people, so we had to go back downstairs to get more. Additionally, the tea did not come with milk, so we had to go downstairs again. The food wasn't as good as it used to be, and the customer service was disappointing. Overall, a huge disappointment and I would not return....

The afternoon tea at this restaurant was quite disappointing and did not offer good value for the money. At £45 per person, we were expecting high quality food and service, but unfortunately, we did not receive either. The chef was apparently sick and there was no acknowledgment of how this would impact our experience. Unlike most places that offer refills of tea, we were expected to pay extra for more than two small cup fills. Additionally, the package was supposed to include a sweet bauble and a slice of cake to take home, but there were no baubles left and only three slices of cake for four people. Instead, we were given two Welsh cakes each, which appeared to be past their 'use by' date....

"It was the most bizarre experience dining here. First when we arrived in the restaurant, our group set up was that there was someone on each end who was sitting facing an empty chair on the other side of the table. Upon enquiry we understood it was a covid measure, however never had any other restaurants requesting such seating arrangements in the past 20 months. We ordered two split pots, a non-spicy broth for one side of the pot and a spicy broth for the other side. The staff came to confirm that we wanted spicy/non-spicy in each pot. Yes, we said. To our shock when the pots came, one pot was spicy/spicy on both side, and the other was non-spicy/non-spicy on both sides. This was after the staff had came by to confirm that we wanted a spicy/non-spicy set-up, and in the usual situation a person wanting a spicy broth would not have asked for a split pot. We raised this to the staff and were clearly unhappy about it, though did not insist on having the broths changed around. What happened next made it the most awkward and uncomfortable dining experience ever. From where we were sitting, we could hear the owner reprimanding the staff for the error, throughout our meal. We understand mistakes occur and if the owner was unhappy about the mistake and genuinely wanted to apologise, taking the initiative to change the broth to the right setup, or a complimentary drink or dish would have gone a long way. But no, he chose to reprimand the staff within our hearing for the whole dinner (which didn't help the situation one bit and made the experience worse! . We felt sorry for the staff. Even with the hospitality shortage, that was a completely wrong way to help the staff improve, nor help retain them in the long run. I don't remember anything about the food, although photos did show a good range to choose from. At the end of the meal we each received a box of hello panda, which might have helped, if not for the fact they were expired. All in all, would not recommend."
