"Friend and I came here for refreshments following a visit to Mount St Bernard Abbey. We were glad we did. This is a surprising and immediately convivial place. We were warmly welcomed by the staff, and led to a comfortable corner table, good for chatting. We ordered a pot of tea, baked potato and a Taj Mahal scone, which was a cheesey scone wrapped round an onion bhaji with mango chutney utterly delicious! Good tasty freshly made food, and reasonable prices. I love the relaxed friendly ambiance. And some interesting bits and pieces, locally made, in the gift shop. I recommend this excellent tea shop and will return. It would be nice in summer too good outdoor space."

Good place to sit outside and have a coffee and a cream tea after a dog walk if you don't mind it being shabby chic.

Lovely tea room. First time we've been but food excellent. Very cosy on a cold day with a beautiful roaring fire. Definitely well worth a visit. Highly recommend it.

St Joseph's is a country tea room next to 150 Year Old Monastery st. Bernards. All home cooked and prepared food great for snacks and light lunches brilliant soups and scones

Popped in here for lunch last week and ordered from the specials board. Delicious and the service was good too. Gets really busy so is a good sign and the volunteers work very hard. Will be going back, without a doubt.

Went for Sunday lunchtime snack, had the pork cob, homemade cob, leanest generous slice of tender pork ever had, fresh french beans, homemade separate serving of gravy and apple sauce followed by the most moist mango cake, it was absolutely perfect and the staff were extremely welcoming. Will definately go again. Thank you, couldn't fault anything.

For the second year running residents (all living with some level of dementia) of a local care home enjoyed a Cream Tea. It's a celebration of International Women's Day. The fact that some of the residents remembered so fondly last year's Cream Tea were so enthusiastic to return, is testiment to the welcome delicious home baked cakes scones that Kerry her team provide. Wonderful. There is something very special about St Joseph's. If you have not yet been then go!!!!

Have been here after walking sections of the Charnwood round. Good is good value and freshly made scones and cakes are excellent. First impressions may seem a bit tired but the warm welcome from friendly staff and the quality of the food makes up for this. You can sit outside or inside where you can also browse a variety of crafts. We have become addicted to the jacket potatoes but the specials and scone stack are equally good. There are also lovely walks in the area.

Sorry but we found the food average and overpriced. Was looking for a ham sandwich but not on menu. The only 4 choices on there were nearly £10 each! Plumped for lemon drizzle cake and was brought Victoria sandwich. Was told by waitress that they’d run out of the chocolate cake we’d ordered but we hadn’t ordered any , only brought us 2 of the 3 drinks we had ordered and then the tiniest pot of ice cream for £4. Asked if we could have a glass of water and it was Luke warm. Not the best of experiences I’m afraid. Nice scones though

We visited St Joseph's tea room today following a long walk. On the plus side service and weather were very good. We ordered 2 ploughman's. What was presented to us can not be described as a ploughman a ploughman's must have bread and cheese! This had a sliced bread stick and some crackers that does not qualify. Also, the cheese was 2 small pieces of cheese, some cheddar red leicester. I would have expected Stilton maybe brie. The ingredients must have cost less than £2 not the £9.50 charged. All presented on a narrow wooden board. Pretty yes, but not what was expected.

"Nipped in for a quick bite on a Friday evening. We went up to what looked like the restaurant bar and asked if it was possible to get a table but were directed to the main bar to ask about this. The place was packed- getting served at the internal bar would have been a bit of a fight. Had a similar experience on a visit here before because there's not much space around the bar so you tend to get an impenetrable crowd instead of any sort of line. Eventually managed to get the attention of a member of staff and were told the restaurant was fully booked, however we could sit outside and order food at the bar to our outside table. Would have saved us some time if that was communicated through the team and relayed by the first person we asked instead of sending us to queue elsewhere. We did order to an outside table, and the food was excellent. The small pizzas really are quite small. But if you have a couple of sides they're perfect to not overstuff you. If you want to just eat pizza probably get a large. Also they had really interesting topping selections on the pizzas- I had the spiced aubergine, creme fraiche and honey. It was absolutely delicious. The chips were hot and well seasoned, the greek salad also really nice- I did miss the addition of peppers and would possibly remove the pea shoots and sub in the peppers to improve this and keep it more authentic though. Drinks were nice and the atmosphere inside was quite cosy and outside had a nice vibe with the tasteful lightning and wooden furniture. Would definitely return (but probably make a reservation. It's busy for a reason!"

"We stayed for one night prior to a flight at East Midlands Airport and everything was excellent, from the warm, welcoming staff, to the rooms and the simply delicious food (evening and breakfast). Firstly the pub: food, drinks, restaurant… All excellent. The sign of a great pub for ale drinkers is one with knowledgeable staff who are keen to let you sample before deciding on a pint. This was the case here and we worked through all five real ales during the afternoon and evening! Also a great selection of wines, and everything served in the correct glasses I loved the attention to detail. Then the evening meal in the restaurant area of the pub: this was also excellent, with a great menu and top food, in plentiful portions. Really delicious all ‘round. We didn’t manage desserts but starters and mains all great. The pub/restaurant is well presented inside and out, with a lovely beer garden at the back. Secondly, the hotel rooms: we were in rooms 1 2 and both were lovely. They were well presented, comfy beds, nice hospitality tray (with fresh milk in the in room fridge), nice toiletries. The room rate included breakfast, which was all freshly cooked to order and once again, a great selection. I would 100% stay here again, especially if going to/from East Midlands airport which was less than a 10 minute drive. A lovely, traditional country Inn with excellent food and hospitality. Thank you to the full team."
