"Visited the brown bear on Saturday,I have been many times before however on this occasion as we entered the shop ,there was an older woman behind the counter whom was extremely rude, made us feel like we should not have been there, we hadn't read the poster on the door as it was pouring down with rain, it was only when another customer informed us of how to order . My partner and I ordered breakfast...we were then told by a customer we had to fetch our breakfast and had to order toast separately... the staff and especially the older woman were unhelpful slamming plates down ,most uncomfortable meal i have had in a long time very unfriendly atmosphere never again will I go back ...most unfriendly place in ripley"

Oh dear! A very unhelpful, unhappy , off putting waitress. The food was reasonable. Nothing exciting. Will not be returning.

A lovely little tea room/coffee shop/cafe. Good choice of menu and large portions. Because of the stairs would not be suitable for the disabled

Paid 35p for butter to go with scone and got one pat which was not enough. Charged another 35p for second pat, so a grand total of £1.40 for 4 little pats of butter for two of us! Coffee weak. Wont be coming back.

I visited The Brown Bear for lunch yesterday, the first time in a while. We both ordered items from the breakfast menu (vegetarian breakfast and eggs Royale) and finished with a delicious raspberry flapjack. The food was delicious, the service was great, and it was excellent value for money. We will definitely be coming back.

Went for the first time today had the big bear breakfast and it was lovely, they let us exchange items we didn’t like eg black pudding for something else. Good local produce and proper bread. Excellent value for money. People sat at the side of us had preordered afternoon tea it looked fabulous and they confirmed it was. We would definitely come her again for a mela or just coffee and a cake.

This coffee shop is truly fantastic! I don't live nearby, but I was invited to a baby shower there and I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food and drinks. The prices were also very reasonable - £6.20 for Eggs Benedict is a steal. I loved the added touch of a small gingerbread bear served with each drink. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive. Give this place a try and you may be just as impressed as I was. Ripley is fortunate to have such a charming coffee shop.

This café was cold and miserable with no heating on. Despite it being the middle of winter, we had to sit in our coats. The fruit loaf was disappointing with a portion size that wouldn't even be enough to feed a small child. I ended up going to Birds cake shop afterwards because I was still hungry. There were also staff issues as I had to wait an additional 10 minutes for the fruit loaf after my coffee arrived. To top it off, they served me an out of date gingerbread biscuit with my coffee. I would strongly advise against visiting this establishment as it has gone downhill and they are overcharging for what they offer.

"we enjoyed another very pleasant dinner at the Dog’ in pentrich recently. it is a very civilized but relaxed escaping area, and the type of place where people are miles for, for the culinary experience traveling and with good ground. eating is good. the dining room is spacious, contemporary and beautifully furnished with a relaxed ambiente. also the adjacent bar area is very cozy and cozy. we were warmly welcomed and immediately shown on our table. the service was attentive and pleasant, without being overlaid or intrusive. our meals were very pleasant and we enjoyed the selection of things we had (start, head and dessert). However, it seemed to be some unconsistencies with a portion size. with the appetizers the leek and the potato portion was very small a piece laek about two centimeters long filled with cheese and in a sea of sauce to convey the grasp of “more”. the crispy szechuan cauliflower and aubergine, on the other hand, contained large parts of the two components of the teller. similar to the net, the green thai chicken contained three very large portions of huh in different shapes: a large chicken breast as the main component of the Thai chicken shell, accompanied by a huge serving of shredded chicken in rice, and a huge Bao beer filled with a large piece of baked chicken. while the various components were delicious, it was just chicken overload, almost like three main dishes as one, and much too much. the same applies to the puddings we have chosen. the dog inn trifle was a huge bowl with lemon-rossel sponge, with white chocolate-creuzard, and celestial gel and sorbet. the yorkshire rhubarb cheesecake, on the other hand, was a very small roll of cheesecake with a puppy game of rhubarb sorbet and a few pieces of poached rhubarb. our meals were certainly delicious, and we enjoyed them. the hanger steak was cooked nicely after a discussion about it; it was clearly stated on the menu that the hanger steak was ‘Served ‘Pink or well Done’, but we were informed that it could not be ordered well. which condition is then on the menu? the dog is worth looking. it is in the beautiful and historical village pentrich, on the b1016 between the towns ripley and alfreton in derbyshire. we're coming back."
