"Disappointing. This pub used to be really good but our visit yesterday was not very good. Our party of 11 had a lot of niggles that added up to a very average/poor experience, mainly due to slow service slow but also meal quality was not as good compared to their usual standard. Pate starters were bland and tasteless this time, nowhere as good as I 've had before. The Christmas Dinner costs over £20 now and several of us found the turkey to be very dry. Comically we each had two cranberries dotted on the plate side, and a single sprout cut in half. There were other veggies of course, but my own green veg portion was cold. The portion size was fine and plenty of gravy but sadly cold plates meant a luke warm (definitely not piping hot) meal. Service was slow, and one person did not get their fish meal until other people had eaten half their main courses. I wanted to say something to the waitress but they did not check us...I later learned she checked a couple at the far end of the table but not everyone. They were understaffed and we had to order extra drinks at the bar ourselves, when usually we were frequently checked by staff if extra drinks are needed. The slowest service was for puddings, they took nearly 25 minutes and arrived well after the hot drinks that were supposed to come together. A staff member later said it says hot drink and pudding on the menu, does not say they come together . I thought he was joking but he clearly seemed unbothered by the delay. Minor things were niggling too, the waitress adamantly would not bring condiments until after all the meals were served. I had nearly finished my turkey when the cranberry sauce arrived. The puddings were the best part, the waffle mini pudding excellent. But my friend ordered the trifle and it was actually more like a chocolate mousse. We later were told only one member of staff made puddings hence the long delay. The total bill was £380 for 11 of us. Quite expensive given most of us had only two courses and drinks. In summary...used to be a good pub but standards have slipped."

I had the baked hake with curried cauliflower puree. I think extra potatoes were added. Every mouthful was delicious.

This restaurant is truly exceptional, with fantastic food, a vibrant atmosphere, and a team of staff that is expertly led by manager Dan. The staff are incredibly helpful and friendly, delivering top-notch service. We are frequent visitors and hope to continue coming back for a long time.

A group of 11 ladies had a wonderful evening. Great atmosphere, hot food that was well presented, lovely staff but … the fact we could only choose off the Christmas menu when I personally would have preferred fish and chips. The menu was very limited with for example rabbit, venison and butter bean mash to go with the fish in a tomato and fennel sauce. Not the best of choices. The prices and unable to choose from the main menu will deter our return.

This restaurant is very popular and was very full when we went. Unfortunately it was very noisy However we were moved to a quieter area with no problems The food was delivered promptly and generally of a good standard. My spicy beef salad was very tasty. My husband had the wild boar rabbit and venison cottage pie. He it was ok but could have been mince Our server was lovely, friendly and efficient Would we go again Jury out as expensive for what we had

We have come here many times before but this is the first time our meal has been substandard. We ordered seebass, a delicate fish but excellent when cooked properly. Our fish was sadly totally overcooked. The potato mash was meant to taste of lemon but was tasteless. When we expressed our disappointment we were told had we complained they would have replaced the meal. That misses the point, namely it should never been sent out in the first place. That apart service was good and of course it’s a great venue to visit. Sadly we shall give the Bulls Head a miss for a while.

The food at this restaurant was disappointing. I ordered the Salmon, ginger, and lemongrass fishcake as a starter, but it was as hard as a golf ball and impossible to cut into. I sent it back and instead tried the soup, which was just average. It was clear that the fishcake had been overcooked and burnt, possibly prepared hours before. My friend ordered the Chicken liver pâté with carrot and apricot chutney, and toasted bread (no mention of mushrooms on the menu). She found a suspicious-looking slime on her salad, which turned out to be a mushroom when she asked the waitress. Overall, the experience was not great, but we had no issues with the dessert and hot drinks.

I had a great lunch at this hidden gem of a restaurant. The rabbit and wild boar pasty starter was delicious and just the right portion size. My fish pie was filled with high-quality fish, but it needed a little extra something to make it really stand out, like a hint of herb or some cheese in the sauce. Nonetheless, it was still very good. My wife's lamb dish was incredibly tender and the vegetables were cooked perfectly, offering a refreshing change from typical pub fare. The menu is the same for both lunch and dinner, so it would be nice to see some smaller plates available during lunch hours (not just sandwiches). Overall, this is a wonderful spot for a meal where you can expect excellen...

We’d booked for lunch which was just as well as it seemed very busy with several groups of “ladies who lunch”. As always, there was good service and a menu packed with dishes you could fancy ordering. They modify the menu regularly which accounts for the fact that, whilst I’d spotted a lovely partridge main course when I looked online just after breakfast, it had disappeared when they updated the menu just before midday. There was a roast chestnut risotto, as a starter, which was nice enough in itself but would have been even better if you could actually detect any pieces of chestnut in it. The overall flavour was enhanced with a scattering of lightly pickled shemeji mushrooms and a few cris...

"Having successfully deposited our eldest in her new Uni digs and having enjoyed an evenings kip in an adjoining Manchester hotel we were in two minds where to breakfast. MrsC’s growing angst over the likely state of our home after allowing our youngest free rein for a garden party proved persuasive so we decided on an early exit an victuals en route. A scan of Happy Cow and Google combined allied to our southbound travel threw up Wild and Wild as a convenient stop off before we rejoined the M6. Pleased to see that it opened at 10;00am on a Sunday whilst registering our likely arrival at 10:15 we added the required SatNav waypoint and trained our behemoth on its new path. There was convenient free parking on the Sunday and we ambled on the pedestrianised section to Wild and Wild; sitting slightly incongruously next to a Costa. The place is light and well laid out and an enticing array of cakes and pastries greets you as you enter. The usual instructive board informed us “to please wait to be seated” which we did. The young lady who appeared to be both front of house, barista and server said she would be with us after serving her present customer; which was fine but, in truth, simply having the menus on the tables and allowing you to sit yourself at empty unreserved tables would seemed to have been the least intrusive and effective means of managing the flow? Anyway we were handed drinks/food menus and then informed that we could, in effect, do exactly that and seat ourselves. The breakfast/brunch menu was concise but convincing and for speed and efficiency MrsC and I settled on two “full English”, vegan of course, and two oat milk lattes. Queued again and gave the order and paid there and then. Though we haven’t been out too much recently the coffee prices seemed about right but the breakfast seemed a tad high. Understanding how inflation is hitting that might just be an impression but if we had stayed in Manchester and returned to the Lounge a similar menu would have been 30% less. Then it started going awry. The wait for the coffee seemed long; the wait for the food almost interminable (around 40-45 mins in truth) Halfway through that wait another server had magicked into operation and it switched from queuing to order to table service. She was professional enough to highlight to new incoming customers that drinks would be about 10 mins/food 30. Something not considered worthy of note to us earlier arrivals. The breakfast was ok. The vegan sausages appeared homemade with rice wrapper “skins” but they were woefully dry and overcooked. The whole vine of oven roasted cherry tomatoes were good as was the star of the show the Smokey “baked beans”. The toast was good quality bread but cut too thin to successfully soak up both beans and the sweet tomatoes. The other components of mixed greens and mushrooms and tofu scramble were under seasoned and a little bland. The potato rosti was a little dense but ok. Sadly the food was underwhelming and more so due to the long wait; ill fitting the vibe and the surroundings especially as the place wasn’t heaving at any time. Always feel awkward knocking eateries in these uncertain times but, in this case, expectations raised by the feel of the place allied to the prices charged, we’re not met by the quality of the food. Perhaps it’s better suited to an afternoon cake and a drink session? Disappointed."

"Wow!!! It has been many years since my last meal at the Brownlow. My late wife Dee and I used to dine here regularly. After her passing, I spent a lot of time working in Sub-Equatorial Africa, providing water to remote areas. Now that I am back in Congleton, some of my neighbors decided to take me out for a birthday lunch, and to my surprise, they chose the Brownlow. I was a bit apprehensive, as the restaurant held so many wonderful memories for me. However, from the moment I walked in, any doubts I had were quickly dispelled. The warm greeting and smile at the reception desk set the tone for the rest of our dining experience. We were promptly seated with menus in hand, and our pre-meal drinks (a perfectly chilled Pinot) arrived with efficiency. The professionalism displayed in serving our meals was commendable and something that is often lacking in other restaurants. The presentation of our dishes was impeccable, and the quality of the food was evident in the clean plates at the end of our meal. I have always believed that people eat with their eyes first, and even those who prioritize presentation would be pleased with the artistry on display here. I will have no problem recommending the Brownlow to my family and friends in the future. The whole team's friendly and welcoming demeanor made for a pleasant dining experience. Special thanks to Simon, the chef, for a job well done - you definitely deserve a raise! I am already looking forward to my next visit. Thank you for a memorable meal. Norman A Dean."
