"t's always hard to write a bad review but I write this in hope that lessons are learned rather than having a go.We chose the restaurant because the menu looked interesting enough and the prices were premium so expected high quality. We arrived at the restaurant and it felt like we had arrived in the middle of a family argument and it was a bit frosty. We did feel a bit awkward from the off (which maybe didn't help the situation). The choice of beers was a little bland with 2 local ales and 2 lagers (1 cheap 1 premium). The starters were okay, 2 of us had chorizo (little bland but okay) 1 had the st marcelin (cheese and bread good but salad didn't look fresh) 1 had pate (okay), cured meats (looked like cured slices straight out of a pack and onto a plate with tired salad. The service was relatively quick and our mins arrived shortly after.1 x Steak and Ale Pie. This was disappointing because the meat was actually tender and the gravy was nice and thick however unfortunately it had absolutely no flavour. The pastry on the top was a little thin but inoffensive. The chips were nice and chunky but could have done with a nice gravy to dip them in. Couple of bits of cauliflower and brocoli thst didn't have any seasoning on the side.1 x BBQ Chicken. This dish went down fine no real complaints or issues.2 x Venison Lasagne. Large portion but ill texture and again distinct lack of flavour. Both lads eating this have great appetites and are not fussy eaters. We had been out and about all day and both really struggled to finish it.1 x chicken and Veg. This was a terrible dish, bland, overcooked chicken and poorly cooked unseasoned veg. It very much HD the texture of reheated food as opposed to fresh produce. We did unfortunately have to complain about this dish as it was inedible. (Props to the owners as it was immediately removed from the bill)1 x Beef Burger No Cheese. Burger was a little dry but otherwise inoffensive. All of this sadly was made worse by the price. This was an extremely expensive meal with mains costing £14+ including the lasagne. The chicken dish was from memory £16 or more.Perhaps we are spoiled from coming from places where competition is so high.every independent pub/restaurant produces excellent food in order to gain repeat custom (newcastle and cheltenham) but this really felt like a place where there was no competition and no need to strive. We also felt it telling that at no point did the waitress or waiter come and ask how our food was during our meal almost as if it was better avoided (this also added to the unwelcoming feel). The pub had a nice seating area and what looked like a lovely beer garden. It felt like a timewarp with its low ceilings and beams. It has every opportunity to be a lovely pub perfect for locals and holidaymakers. A little bit of effort on the decor combined with a look into their produce and quality. As it stands I would recommend you avoid!!!"
