"We were booked in for 3 nights via Alton Towers website, we stayed 1 then checked out it's a disgrace. It looked nice when we arrived at 8.30pm but we hade been up at 5am to drive 4 hours then spent the day in Alton Towers so were exhausted. We didn't take up the offer to eat in the restaurant as looking at the menu it was very expensive for what was on offer. The windows had been open when we arrived in our chalet but we shut them to block out the outside noise (early morning we were woken by sound of lorries going past) , we should have left them open. When we woke the next morning I was in pain coughing, the room smelt very damp, musty mouldy which had gotten into my lungs whilst I was asleep. The bed was so hard small both me my husband ached. The pillows that were all plump lovely when we arrived had turned into wafer thin slices of covered beads I've seen pancakes that were not as flat as these pillows. The kids bunk beds had lovely white covers on, but when you popped the buttons the corners of the duvets were yellow brown looked like they had never been washed. When we went into the bathroom to use the shower there was mould on the shower wall which no one had bothered to wipe off, the seal on the glass shower screen was covered in red mould needed replacing. The bath also had several cracks in it. Between the bathroom bedroom was a very large wet patch which the receptionist tried to say there knew nothing about it would get housekeeping to look into it housekeeping were the same 2 young girls who were in the restaurant serving breakfast.Breakfast was a pathetic buffet of a few small boxes of cereal, some cupcakes that tastes like they had dumped a spoonful of lard on top croissants or £5 extra if you wanted hot food we had booked as a B B so the offering for breakfast was very poor. My husband had a cooked breakfast, he only ate it because we had paid for it it was that bad. The waitress was very pushy trying to get us to order 4 cooked breakfasts which really should have been included as a B B.The same 2 girls in the restaurant were also housekeeping, we saw them go into the room opposite who had checked out. They were not in there more then 20 minutes, had no clean towels or clean bedding with them!!!I contacted Alton Towers who booked us into a basic room at Splash Landings hotel which was a luxury compared to this place. When I went to reception to pay for the breakfast inform them we were checking out the lady tried to say they had different beds in other rooms we could try but unfortunately missed the point about how bad their cleanliness is that if our room isn't cleaned properly I can only assume all the rooms are the same as the same people are cleaning them all. Her face didn't look very happy her attitude turned rather rude, can only assume she didn't like beening told the truth about her shabby chalets we stayed in room 2Yes it is 15 minutes drive from Alton Towers but that is really the only thing going for it"

I visited this pub for Sunday lunch with my family it was an odd and disappointing experience. The venue was dark and tired on entry not much better when seated. The staff were less than enthusiastic- there was definitely no service with a...

Avoid Sunday lunches reheated meat soggy flat Yorkshire pudding same for the roast potatoes as for the veg it comes in small pieces obviously from a frozen supermarket supplier that is then either boiled or microwaved to the maximum blandness

Had breakfast lunch and dinner over several days. Staff are really helpful and truly dog friendly. Restaurant and outdoor area wheelchair accessible via back. 1 step to the bar manageable with wheely walker and 1 helper. Good food, great selection, particularly evening meal. Good size...

The food and menu choices at this restaurant are amazing, especially on Sunday evenings. The staff is friendly and provides prompt service. The portions are generous and they offer a great selection of local beers. They are dog-friendly and also offer accommodation. There is plenty of parking available.

The hotel room was clean, spacious, and well-equipped. The staff were friendly and welcoming, with excellent communication. The highlight was the delicious meal we had - it was homemade, not frozen, and incredibly tasty. I hadn't had such a good meal in a long time, and even felt compelled to thank them for it. I highly recommend this place.

We had a delightful afternoon tea at this restaurant, with freshly prepared and beautifully presented treats. The portion was so generous that we had to take some cakes home with us! The staff were attentive and accommodating, creating a welcoming atmosphere that made for a truly relaxing experience. The restaurant is also well located with a charming frontage.

Do not eat here!! We waited ten mins to be served at the bar We ordered pork Sunday lunch and vegetarian lasagna and chips The Sunday dinner came out with microwaved vegetables soggy roast potatoes and a flat soggy Yorkshire pudding The vegetarian lasagna was microwaved so the cheese was weird and hard on the top it was tasteless and watery The only good points were the salad and the chips Over priced food that was worse that school meals Keep driving !! Cost £36 and wasn’t worth half that price

We recently received a Buyagift experience voucher as a gift, which had limited options for use. With the voucher set to expire in 10 days, we chose to dine at The Dog and Partridge. The only other option was 40 miles away, so we decided to stay close by. The restaurant is considered a gastropub, and when I called to make a reservation for lunch, I was informed that we could only choose from a Table d’hote menu priced at £45 for two for 2 courses - the exact amount of the voucher. The menu selection was quite limited for a gastropub. We ended up ordering the Steak and Ale pie with a suet crust, but were disappointed with the small portion of meat in watery sauce and undercooked suet crust. T...

"Our room faced the front of the hotel, and while the village was quiet with only two pubs and a small corner store, it seemed to be a shortcut for heavy vehicles speeding downhill at night, with headlights constantly illuminating our room. We also found out that the hotel closes in the evening if it's not busy, and the front door may be locked as early as 10 PM, requiring a code for re-entry. The internet service was poor; even standing just outside the front door, I had no reception and couldn't call the emergency numbers posted there. It appears that the quality of the rooms varies significantly, with some having been upgraded while others are less desirable, including our own. When we questioned our bill because we didn't think the room was worth £140, we were told that since we had booked through Charming Escapes, we should take it up with them, as the hotel receives only a fraction of what we paid. This made us feel like second-class guests, especially since it seemed we were stuck in a low-quality room. The standard rate for a double room is £90, and if I were to rate our experience like on the TV show "Four in a Bed," I would say £50 a night would have been generous. Previous reviews also mentioned an issue with the door handle and the ability to lock the room, which had not been fixed. If you’re just looking for a place to dry off your hiking boots, this hotel might suffice, but I wouldn't recommend staying here again. It has a lot of potential, and thankfully, we had a wonderful evening at The Devonshire Arms just across the street—it felt like a whole different experience. It seems the staff at Charles Cotton have simply given up."
