"We saw online that it was buy one burger get one free deal on a Tuesday but when we got there. The bar lady said that the website and the online site was not updated. It was actually a £10 burger deal. We then looked at the menu we chose some food the the Barman was not bothered and not accommodating, particularly when the food arrived. The steak and Guinness pie was all pastry. The roasted vegetables will burn and my stroganoff was tasteless. We told the bar man again and he just laughed and said he’d tell the chef. the atmosphere was unfriendly pretentious and extremely expensive for what it was. George Payne’s always fine when you want to meet friends for a few drinks, but don’t expect anything else."

Sunday lunch and birthday party for 10 kids. Awesome food, great beers and craft ales, awesome coffee, helpful staff and my kids had a great time. It does everything a great pub should do.

Great place, good food, good selection of drinks, ever changing seasonal menus (not just pub grub) fantastic staff and management, also less than a 5 minute stagger to the main line railway station, perfect!!!

have eaten here some recently and were very impressed each time. last night had the rumpsteak with chimichurri and it was delicious! perfectly rare, full of taste and generous help. the quiz night is also great fun and all the staff are very friendly. very nice local pub.

we have lived in many places, all with different degrees of a “good local”, this is by far the best. great eating, great ale, good choice of weeping and weapons and especially, great staff. they take care of everyone and everything, and the effort they have to celebrate is amazing! super happy to have this place in front of our doorstep!
