"First impressions count. We were driving past the restaurant early evening today and took a chance on there being a free table. We love our food and we’re always happy to spend a lot of money on a great place. However. We looked at menu at front of restaurant on main road beside the door which we weren’t sure was the “proper” entrance or not. So my husband looked through window, saw someone there and knocked. She came to door scowling as she had to remove her headphones. Husband asked politely if there was a chance of a table tonight. Response was, “No, we’re full” and she shut the door on us. There was no, “hello, how are you? Travelled far?” A table for tonight? I’m really sorry, but we’re full tonight “. At which point we would have been disappointed but planned to come again at another time. A little bit of courtesy to customers/ potential customers goes a long way. We shall not return ."

The entire experience was flawless. The food was the best I have ever eaten. David is a master of his craft! London restaurants, take note.

We recently eloped to Scotland from Australia and married at Crear. We were told the best restaurant in the Area was Killberry Inn, a short 2 mile walk up the road.

We discovered this remote restaurant last year when visiting Kintyre and dropped in for lunch. The food was so good and the accommodation looked so comfortable that we immediately booked a stay for the following year!

Four cold, wet and hungry Welsh travellers were given an wonderful welcome and an outstanding meal. The steak was so tender you could cut it with a spoon and the lamb was simply delicious. If queenies are on the menu, they shouldn't be missed. Very much hope to return one day.

Just home from an evening at the Kilberry Restaurant, very friendly welcome from David and great service from the young man who waited on our table. It’s probably been said in previous reviews so I can only add to them by saying the food is sensational in a warm cosy environment. Can’t wait to return. Speisekarte ansehen

This is a restaurant with rooms in a remote but beautiful place. The rooms are all individual and are very comfortable. The restaurant offers a wonderful meal cooked by the joint owner and she is obviously a very skilful chef. Front of house is run by her husband David who is very friendly and very helpful. The wine list is small but very well crafted. We were most impressed with the food, service, wine and would recommend this as a place to visit and enjoy.

The visitors book of our holiday home sung the praises of this local inn. Having emailed them and received no reply we tried popping down to see if we could have supper. The owner was very unwelcoming and arrogant and told us that they were full despite there being only 4 people in the restaurant and condescendingly telling us to try Tarbert. A couple of things to remember: you never know who anybody is these days so do treat everyone with respect and charm. Word of mouth is a powerful thing.

"On our last day here, killing time before the ferry, decided to try luncheon here. No expectations either way. And we were TOTALLY wowed it was just excellent. Trying not to put too many superlatives in this review, but it was really, really ace. We had a lovely table by the window overlooking the harbour where you could see dog walkers, children in wellies, crabbing, and little boats coming and going. Classic Islay. Then I have to mention the food. Jeez, it was top notch, and huuuuuuuge portions. I don’t think we’ve ever had four such consistently generous and fulfilling portions before. We had the scallops (massive, juicy, plentiful , the Crofter’s Platter, which was cheeses, hams, sausage rolls, salad, bread, chutneys; the soup massive bowl, loadsa crispy sourdough bread, and the fish and chips which was so big it draped over the plate! All delicious. Our guy, Andrew, was superb, so attentive and smiley and always bringing us more things, spoons, drinks, more bread, spoons, he was great. And we had a lovely chat with the very friendly and nice proprietor. She was wonderful. Really seemed to care about the place and her team. She told us all about the hotel and stuff it was really cool. We will most certainly come back here next time. You can’t necessarily get the best table every time, but we won’t mind if we don’t! : Oh, also, lovely clean loos!"
