"Well received by young waitress who was polite and took our drinks order. We ordered King Prawn tempura as a starter but beware of small print, for £9.95 you only get 3 small king prawns!! Very over priced, fair enough if these were scallops but over £3 each for a small king prawn is grossly over priced. Also we were offered a choice of sauces but conveniently weren’t told that there was a charge of £2.50 for the satay sauce. When served, the prawns were small and the Tempura batter was disappointing. The satay sauce was served in a small half full ramekin which should have been included in the £9.95 price. For mains we had the Lorne chicken and beer battered haddock full fillet for an extra £3). Lorne chicken was fine although could have been warmer. The beer battered haddock was surprisingly small considering the full fillet was ordered. Batter was crispy, tasty with good quality fish but portion far too small. Chips weren’t great and soggy while the mushy peas were served in a very small ramekin why would you do this? Peas are cheap, be generous. The peas were lukewarm no doubt having cooled in the ramekin and the tartar sauce portion was also ridiculously small and I had to order more. While we can all appreciate portion control and cut backs, for the prices charged, the portions here are very disappointing and not good value to customers. An older waitress came to us with the bill and when we gave her our requested feedback she became argumentative but eventually agreed to remove the satay sauce from the bill. Her standard phrase ….’it says that on the menu’ so beware of small print. Summary food just okay, portion control poor and overpriced, tend to be served lukewarm."

I had visited this restaurant in 2020 during holiday and recently returned. Once again, I was not let down. The food was excellent as always. Both the food and the staff were faultless.

A group of 20 of us went to Lorne for a birthday meal. The food was delicious and served hot. The service was attentive and friendly, accommodating our dietary restrictions with ease. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Very friendly and efficient staff in very pleasant surroundings. All our meals were good but the beer battered haddock was outstanding followed by and excellent desert the homemade Cranachan a Scottish classic, made with a tower of shortbread, mixture of whipped cream, honey, fresh raspberries toasted oatmeal with a little nip of whisky. Food was rather bland. Presentation of the burger was very disappointing, with a small bit of lettuce slice of tomato somewhere under the burger. Not what you’d expect for a burger costing £9.25 on it’s own. £3.75 to add chips, £3.20 to add coleslaw and £2 to add 3 onion rings. Not a cheap lunch. Staff were lovely and efficient. Restaurant is attractive and pleasant.

This was my first trip to Dunoon and it’s no surprise that this is #1 here. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The restaurant itself had a lovely atmosphere and was busy, however it didn’t feel it as the tables are far from eachother! There was a wide range of choices to have for your meal and was delicious! Would definitely recommend to anyone who is in the area!

I can only say wow - the food at this restaurant was delicious. It was my first time trying haggis and I had the bon bons and steak pie, both of which were delicious. The steak melted in my mouth - it was stunning. My partner had the haggis, tatties, prawn linguine, and mint cheesecake. The food was exceptional, with big portions. The staff were attentive and accommodating, fitting us in as a last-minute booking for New Year's Eve. If we are ever in the area again, we would definitely come back - it was a wonderful experience. We were in Dunoon for the ultramarathon which was cancelled due to the severe weather and flooding. The Lorne was a great place to eat at the end of a cold and soggy day. The staff are very welcoming. Nice bar as you go in with a wide selection of all drinks, including some excellent cocktails. The food menu had something to suit all tastes, including a brilliant monkfish special. The food was attractively presented, well cooked and tasty with generous portions. The serving staff were friendly and helpful. All in all an excellent choice for the evening and we’ll definitely book here again next time we’re in Dunoon.

The Lorne is well reviewed on this site and well thought of by locals. I didn’t book and was lucky to get a table. I had the black pudding and haggis Bon Bons. I wasn’t expecting the black pudding and haggis to be mixed together, that’s how it is with food everyone interprets it differently, so not what I was expecting but tasty anyway. I followed this with the braised lamb shank with mashed potatoes and vegetables another good choice. When away I try to have local things in this case a pint of Seven Peaks IPA brewed in Glasgow, maybe not the best choice to go with the lamb but a good choice with the Bon Bons. The Lorne seemed to be popular, I was there on one of the burger special nights, I...

"On our last day here, killing time before the ferry, decided to try luncheon here. No expectations either way. And we were TOTALLY wowed it was just excellent. Trying not to put too many superlatives in this review, but it was really, really ace. We had a lovely table by the window overlooking the harbour where you could see dog walkers, children in wellies, crabbing, and little boats coming and going. Classic Islay. Then I have to mention the food. Jeez, it was top notch, and huuuuuuuge portions. I don’t think we’ve ever had four such consistently generous and fulfilling portions before. We had the scallops (massive, juicy, plentiful , the Crofter’s Platter, which was cheeses, hams, sausage rolls, salad, bread, chutneys; the soup massive bowl, loadsa crispy sourdough bread, and the fish and chips which was so big it draped over the plate! All delicious. Our guy, Andrew, was superb, so attentive and smiley and always bringing us more things, spoons, drinks, more bread, spoons, he was great. And we had a lovely chat with the very friendly and nice proprietor. She was wonderful. Really seemed to care about the place and her team. She told us all about the hotel and stuff it was really cool. We will most certainly come back here next time. You can’t necessarily get the best table every time, but we won’t mind if we don’t! : Oh, also, lovely clean loos!"
