"This place got a great review in The Guardian so I thought I'd give it a try for Sunday Lunch. Journey from the burbs wasn't great...typical inner London journey...slow and unpleasant. And when you get there, parking is a bit of nightmare. Inside, it's not shabby chic....more shabby charity shop. Uncomfortable rickety chairs and tables. A bit grubby with dust and cobwebs evident. Drinks...I fancied an alcohol free beer but the prices....£6 for just over half a pint...a total rip off. Had a pint of Brick Session IPA instead....very nice pint for the same price. Roasts were OK. Plates were too small and piled high. Roast potatoes weren't great. No salt and pepper on the table. And again, what prices...nearly £19.50 for roast pork! Finished with coffee and an affogato which was ruined by being served in a tumbler. Had to ask for sugar for the coffee. Service was poor...unattentive on a relatively quiet Sunday lunchtime...but nevertheless attracted a 12.5% service charge! I won't be going back. And as the recession bites, I suspect that this place will struggle unless it up its game and lowers its prices."

Went on a weekday evening. The menu had so many appealing dishes it was hard to choose. The staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. The pork belly was delicious with amazing crackling.

We have been going to the Alma for years and went last night with friends to celebrate our anniversary. The menu was sooo disappointing ..it was very basic pub grub,,hamburgers, fish and chips and steaks. No specials,..very dull....so sad. Our table was sticky and our...

My family and I decided to have an early Christmas dinner at The Alma, but it was too soon for their special Christmas menu, so we opted for Sunday lunch instead. I don't usually write reviews, but I felt compelled to do so this time because our meal was absolutely fantastic. It was one of the best roasts I have ever had, if not the very best! The staff were friendly and the atmosphere was lovely. We will definitely be returning. Speisekarte ansehen

We sat outside in the heated tent and had the fried chicken starter- not bad, better sauce, and the pork croquettes which were delicious and with an amazing dip. My partner had the duck. It was nice but didn’t blow us away. HOWEVER my pork belly was ridiculously good. It was extremely naughty (like heart attack naughty) but exactly what you want from a pork belly dish. Salty, umami goodness. Amazing soy based sauce, sesame and chilli running through. Delightful! A must try!

I love Alma, it's a nice local restaurant. However, my experience there for lunch with 4 people on Tuesday, 24/05/22 was disappointing. The dishes were all over salted, with even houmous being sprinkled with salt. The deep fried cauliflower was so salty that it was inedible. It seems like maybe the regular chef was off or unable to handle constructive feedback. The steak, ordered medium rare, was overcooked. On a positive note, the waitress was nice and the chips were okay. I probably wouldn't go back for food as Alma uses too much salt.

I have tried to have a drink at this pub for the second time, but on both occasions I have left immediately after being told all tables are booked and that I can only drink outside. The attitude of the bar staff at The Alma leaves much to be desired. I remember this pub from the past, but it has now shifted its focus more towards food. I do not appreciate feeling unwelcome and being told what I can and cannot do as a customer. The Alma should work on improving their customer service. We ended up going to the pub across the street, where we were served right away by friendly and helpful staff. It's much more pleasant when the bar staff say, "Enjoy your drink and have a good weekend." Speisekarte ansehen

Sometimes the food here is amazing (there prawn sambal they did a while ago was to die for! but other times it’s barely edible… the Sunday roasts I find particularly hit and miss. i do t know what method they use for there roast potatoes, but they are like hard tasteless rocks. I suspect they’ve been pre cooked then microwaved, but really not sure… I’ve encountered this on more then one meal. On the last visit my partner ordered the vegetarian haggis, which he found inedible, there veggie options aren’t great generally as they are all quite oily! So unfortunately I don’t think I’ll be able to persuade my vegetarian partner to try eating there again. Sad really as they are also very capable o...

Terribly disappointed as I had high expectations given fab review by Grace Dent. We were very encouraged by excellent starters but were shocked by the insipid offering which was to follow. The two vegetarian dishes were what can only be described as a rip off and what’s worse they were inedible. We are used to paying over the odds for vegetarian food but £18 for a plate of squash with little favour or other texture was beyond redeemable. The pasta dish was cooked to the state of mush that even weaning baby would spurn. We complained but were met with a lacklustre “we will let the chef know”. We were left feeling that we were below the lowest of the low in the pecking order which does not enc...
