"Meal Type: Brunch Price Per Person: £10–20 Food Rating: 4/5 Service Rating: 4/5 Atmosphere Rating: 3/5 I recently visited this restaurant for brunch and had a pleasant experience. The food was definitely a highlight, earning a solid 4 out of 5. I highly recommend trying the Full English Breakfast and the Eggs Benedict, both of which were delicious. The service was also commendable, scoring another 4; the staff were friendly and attentive throughout my visit. The atmosphere was decent but could use a bit more charm, resulting in a rating of 3. Overall, it's a great spot for brunch that I would recommend to others."

"On entering, we were totally ignored by the owner. We had to ask if we should be seated, and then it took about 5 minutes for the other staff member to clear the table and she didn 't wipe it clean. We weren 't greeted or smiled at, or offered options by either of the staff. Despite the fact that there were only four tables of people in the cafe, we had to wait 20 minutes for coffee and cake. The coffee and cake, to be fair, was OK. However, when we went to pay, the extremely miserable cafe owner didn 't make eye contact or smile or really acknowledge us at all. Sad as the products they were selling were pretty good, but the ambience and 'welcome ' were miserable. I really don 't like criticising a small business, but I did feel like walking out soon after we arrived. The only thing that kept us that there was little other choice in the village, although the new take out place down the road looked good, and it was only the threat of heavy rain which prevented us from sitting out on their chairs (they have very little indoor space). All in all, sadly, quite a miserable experience. Sorry but you need to up your game in the hospitality business."

"The staff as normal were fabulous, however our main courses were very disappointing, I had the grouse and it was severely undercooked, the waitress had said that it comes pink which I have no problem with, in fact I don’t mind my meat pink, however the breast was seared on one side then from there all the way through it was just raw, they hadn’t even seared both sides, it looked like a piece of raw liver is the only way to describe it. My hubby gave me a piece of his lamb and I gave him my grouse breast, but it was even too raw for him and he wouldn’t eat it. His lamb was no better again the waitress informed us that it comes pink, again no problem but again it was undercooked, the steak knife struggled to cut it and it was a poor cut of meat. The waitress offered to have it recooked but by that time I’d eaten most of the meal (except the meat) and I wasn’t prepared to wait for 3 small pieces of meat to be brought back to us. The mushroom part was also awful, there were no mushroom caps, just the woody underneath of it and it tasted nasty is I also left that so all I had was the potatoes and broccoli. We had been only visited weeks before and I’d had the grouse and it was amazing, I honestly can’t think what went wrong. We also had to wait over 20 minutes for our desserts (both of which were cold) for saying it was 3 courses we were there over 2 hours. I know we won’t be visiting again for a while."

"During a day trip to Matlock, we stumbled upon Viva Italian. We didn't have a reservation, but they were able to accommodate us. The restaurant had a lovely ambiance, with friendly and helpful staff. The food was exceptional, with delicious flavors and beautiful presentation. We will definitely be returning, but next time we will make sure to book in advance so we don't miss out."

"Shared a lovely meal here with my friend. Hadn't been here for years we were not disappointed. Booked online had quick reply, staff friendly welcoming, very cosy pub atmosphere, everyone was having a good time, very nice that dogs are allowed in they were very well behaved. I had chicken curry with rice nan could of had chips, or half rice half chips, which was a nice choice) the curry was full of flavours not dry at all as some can be, rice was very fluffy light. my friend had sausage, veg giant Yorkie, choice of mash or chips, she had chips, it was a very large portion, we both enjoyed our meals. The menu was quite a wide choice for saying it's a small pub, we both had lemon meringue for pudding, it was lovely lemony in the middle, the meringue was soft not hard which was different as mine always go rock hard. The young girl who served us was marvellous, she was taking food orders, bringing food out serving the bar, that's multi tasking !! We have now booked a group Xmas meal in December which has realy good choice. Looking forward to our next visit. Thank you."
