The Mulberry - Speisekarte

"On our first visit, I could not fault this place. It had a lovely ambiance, rather romantic, dimly lit to suit its surrounding with some low tone old style music. The food was cooked perfectly and served with professional etiquette and in good time. We felt rather looked after. There was only 4 tables in including ourselves on our first visit.However, the 2 star rating is a reflection of the second and what will be our last visit. On arrival, the waitress didn't greet us, rather we had to ask where to sit whilst awkwardly standing between tables. After seating arrangements had been made, the food and drinks menu was brought out to us, but our waiter failed to offer us the additional items that were available on that night which I was only aware of due to a phone a call a few days before and had to ask for this myself.Although this could be ignored, the night only went down hill from there. Within 20 minutes of sitting down other tables had filled up, but the ambiance was still lovely and fitting with the environment we hoped to sit in once again, only this was to be ruined by a large group that had came in for a meal that night of the same time. From the moment they walked in not only did the quality of the service decline, but more importantly the atmosphere was ruined and the staff were not dealing with it.The group that were in, were being rather loud, so much to the point we couldn't hear each other at our own table and the music mise aswell have been turned off. Not only were they being loud and constantly shouting above ecahother but also very inappropriate in their discussions given it was a public place, and there decision to dump their dirty plates on the table next to us I also found rather disgusting.The longer the night went on the more inconsiderate the group became. I'm aware not every one knows how to behave in public, but this is not a pub and should not have loud intoxicated people ruining others experiences. The staff should have dealt with this and chose not too!Further to this, it appeared the kitchen was also struggling with the food. The starter menu was the same yet the dish I ordered has arrived clearly rushed. It had large chunks of mushroom in rather than the finer diced mushrooms from the previous visit and they were rather wet with no flavour. Both myself and my partner found our main dish dissapointing, both of our fish were over cooked and rubbery and the prawns litterally squeaked as you chewed them. This was a rather glum meal given the prior visit being so perfect. I couldn't even eat the fish due to the rediculous amount of salt which has been put on the skin (not crisped either).To top this off, once our main meals had been taken away (which took some time due to the focus being given to the large group), the waitress informed us they had not been able to get hold of us to let us know the card machine did not work. This information should have been provided before we had even sat down. There had been no attempt to get in touch with us prior to our booking. The waitress did not mention dessert then disappeared for nearly 30 minutes before returning to us with a dessert menu. My partner ordered the Millionare shortbread and I the tiramisu. The tiramisu was nice however the shortbread was stone cold and rock solid, anyone would have thought it had just been pulled out of the freezer moments ago. We did not intend to still be at the restaurant at 10pm when we booked in for 7pm. But the service was so slow due to the focus being on the main party and the food was of poor quality, whether this was because the kitchen was struggling with the high demand of food or what, I'm not sure. But for us, this was a romantic place to relax and spend quality time together, instead this meal ended up feeling as though we were at a pub on the day England played there last football match.Due to this experience we will not return."
