"We decided to try The Old Swan based on the Tripadvisor reviews. I ordered ‘whole grilled plaice’ from the specials board my husband ordered fillet steak. The pub was cosy and most of the team working were friendly efficient. The initial welcome was a bit odd, an older lady ‘kind of’ welcomed us by quickly passing us to a friendly man who showed us to our table (we had booked). A younger girl also looked after us and was friendly efficient (one reason I’ve given more than one star). We had drinks focaccia. When the older lady collected the board the bread was served on, I said ‘thank you, the focaccia was dreamy’ and she completely ignored me The mains came to the table the steak looked great it was a good cut, cooked as requested and they swapped chips for new potatoes. The only comment was ‘it could have been seasoned more’ but this is personal taste. The plaice was served and, a few mouthfuls in, I noticed a long black hair stuck (cooked in) to the skin of the fish. I pulled it out, placed it on the side plate for the fish bones and quietly said to the older lady that there was something wrong. She took the side plate with the hair and said ‘this never happens here’. I replied that I’m sure it doesn’t happen often ‘these things happen’. The lady took the hair away and left me with the meal. I felt really awkward and embarrassed as I didn’t want to make a fuss but also didn’t want to continue eating the fish. My husband caught the younger girls eye and asked if we could swap it and she was so helpful, immediately said ‘of course we will get you another one’ and returned to give an update on how long it would be (not long at all). I ate all of the new fish although I wouldn’t order it again, it was pleasant and I enjoyed the experience of eating fish off the bone which isn’t always an option elsewhere. At this point, I would have probably scored this a three or four on the review because these things do happen and the younger lady looking after us was brilliant. The older lady returned to collect the plates and again insisted ‘This actually never happens here’ and I insisted it was no problem, I am sure they have high standards and it was just an accident. She then snapped at me saying ‘NO! We don’t have accidents, this never happens here’ … The interaction felt quite tense and even aggressive. We did not ask for a discount, we did not complain (other than to raise attention to the issue ask for a replacement) and we were gracious when the young lady set about making things right. The overall feeling when we left was awkward, embarrassing uncomfortable. The final conversation with the older blonde lady really highlighted all the other little things throughout our dialogue with her during our visit that I was disappointed with. The pub is sweet, the food was good enough most of the staff were great. The hair is a small detail easily looked over if dealt with appropriately. Making people feel uncomfortable, expecting me to continue eating a dish with a hair in it and continuing to reiterate the same awkward point, however, is unacceptable. Perhaps the older lady was having a bad day or has something personal on her mind. If this is the case, I do hope things get better for you as soon as possible"

The service was excellent. My family all enjoyed their meals and had a delightful dining experience. This is definitely my favorite local restaurant. Regards, Roger.

Visited for New Year lunch. The welcome was warm , we were quickly seated and drinks were provided. The food was delicious and beautifully served and faultless. Nothing was too much trouble. The Old Swan is our favourite for dining and we will be back again quite soon.

We stopped by for a leisurely Sunday roast and were delighted with our experience. The restaurant was warm and welcoming, and the food was delicious, clearly made with locally sourced ingredients and cooked with attention to detail. Thank you so much - we'll definitely be returning soon!

Would have been 5 stars but...... this is by far the best steak in Milton Keynes and indeed one of the best I have had. the ribeye is delicious and I have had this several times and each time superb. they also had the nicest dessert I have ever had. the treacle pudding like the steak was superb. Note I say was as someone made the strange decision to stop doing it!!! it was the best mix of main and dessert you could wish for what a shame. Hopefully whoever made the decision does not try betting on the g g's as they will clearly lose the shirt off their back!

Everything about this pub is excellent: the building; ambience; service and quality. There were 4 of us for lunch, 2 of whom had not been before. Expectations were more than met. It felt friendly the moment we walked in and had a distinct‘local’ feel about it which I particularly liked. Although busy, the atmosphere was calm. Service was prompt and efficient without being overbearing. We had 3 courses, all of which arrived promptly. The food was nicely presented and of great quality. Not a cheap meal perhaps but excellent value nonetheless. Looking forward to further visits.

What a wonderful hidden gem of a beautiful country restaurant. For starters I had Monkfish scampi in a mild curry and celeriac puree which was exquisite, my Wife had devilled lambs kidneys which were fantastic. For main I had Haddock, chips and mushy peas cooked to perfection and my Wife had loin of Cod with samphire. I finished with a sticky toffee pudding made by chef Phil's Wife which was fabulous and couldn't make my mind up between custard, cream or ice cream so went for the lot. The wine list was comprehensive and we settled for a bottle of Gavi di Gavi. Highly recommended for a high end romantic meal.

We have had so many disappointing meals out recently but this little gem exceeded all expectations. Can’t believe I’ve lived so near and never visited. Charming , traditional British pub but the food is above and beyond pub standard. Really nice menu with a separate fish board. We shared a goat’s cheese mousse with figs and ham and it was outstanding. My partner enjoyed his swordfish too. As for my fillet steak, stuffed with Stilton- honestly the best steak I’ve ever had. Even better than the one I had in S Africa which I thought nothing could beat. It was literally melt in the mouth. Chips are a treat for me and so often they are hard/soggy/flavourless- but not these ones. I polished off th...

I visited this restaurant 5 years ago and recently decided to return with friends who lived nearby. The staff and other customers warmly welcomed us as we arrived, and our table was quickly located after I gave our booking name. We ordered drinks, received our menus, and placed our food orders shortly after. Our choices included no starters, a Cajun Burger, Swordfish, Lamb, and Salmon, all of which looked and tasted delicious. My swordfish steak was particularly enjoyable with its easy-to-slice texture, flavorful vegetables, potatoes, and marinade. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals and the service. For dessert, we had Citrus tart, two Treacle puddings, and one Ice Cream, followed by coffee...

"Absolutely average restaurant. Dirty bamboo table mats and super dirty windows, kinda sad to look out of them. Impatient service, who under 6 minutes 5 times came back trying to pressure me to take my order. I was confused as I thought it was a restaurant not a fast food place. Silly me who used to live in Japan though the menu is just like there, with pictures. How wrong I was...So getting my phone to have a look at their website, what kinda different that in the restaurant menu card one. When I tried to ask for reconditions, I didn't get any, she just straight away took the last what I asked. The steamed algae was very nice, but my noodle soup was a big surprise, as I have no idea what's roasted (burned) pepper and massive chunks of onions doing there? It's supposed to be sea food, but instead just some burned vegetables scared with frozen octopus, mussels and mini calamari rings poured up with chicken broth. So yeah, kinda disappointing. Drink wise I asked the waitress do they have any tonic water as it isn't listed on the menu card, she looked at me like I am a weirdo. I asked for Roku gin what is my favourite. On the receipt was counted as an extra pound because Japanese. Lol, no comment. Getting the drinks, from other restaurants you get the spirit on the rocks in the glass and front of you they pouring the mixer drink from the mini bottle. Here not, just straight away together as it comes. Oh and don't bother asking without lemon, because you are getting one either way. So Akasaka restaurant did not become my favourite one. Once and last. Easily can be forgotten. Service: Dine in Meal type: Lunch Price per person: £20–30 Food: 2 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 4"
