"I’d identified this pub as a lunch stop due to its varied food menu and association with the esteemed Dark Star brewery. On arrival we found that it’s no longer owned by Dark Star, and hence no longer the brewery tap, but that proved to...Not Be A Bad Thing as it’s now an unpretentious free house but still featuring several of Dark Star’s excellent ales as well as others from Harveys of Lewis (six quality real ales in all, iirc), as well as the usual lagers and ciders. Lunch choice was exceptional, with a really extensive menu of “traditional pub favourites” plus sandwiches, open sandwiches, various things on toast, a huge combination of toppings for focaccia melts, hot dog and burger options, a number of veggie choices. What impressed us was the ability to have many/most dishes as standalone snacks/starters, or as a full meal with chips, salad etc, while the main courses could also be had in small or standard portions. My wife had an avocado, bacon and cheddar focaccia melt with proper chips; I had a bratwurst hotdog with beef chilli, cheese and jalapeño topping. Quality and quantity was excellent and prices were extremely reasonable eg you can have a plain burger for The whole lunch, with two very filling meals, two soft drinks and two ales came to less than which I think is unbeatable these days. Ale-wise, I had two great new taste new experiences via a pint of excellent Dark Star Partridge best bitter, followed by a Dark Star Eastbourne Star winter ale which was superb. Needless to say, my wife drove as we continued our journey. We ate in the no-frills front bar, which is a high ceilinged Victorian room (the pub was once the Station Hotel); there are several other more atmospheric eating areas in the long side bar and a room beyond that. While some parts of the pub are in need of a little maintenance and tlc, it’s very obvious that the new owners (Mick Barry and daughter Rachel) are very serious about the choice and quality of their ales and food. We were just passing through, and the pub was relatively quiet on a Tuesday late lunchtime, so I hope the local community get behind them and give the Partridge the success it deserves."

I stopped by for a quick meal and to escape the heat. The food was delicious and welcoming. I'm excited to come back again.

This is a great local pub with a nice selection of wine. They also serve pet food and offer good service. The pub garden is pleasant, and they are strong on implementing COVID-19 protection measures.

Just had a stunning lunch of burgers and beer. Home made lamb burger was outstanding and having option of field mushroom instead of burger bun was brilliant. Dark star hop head and pale ale beer a great combination with food

I work with young adults with learning difficulties, and we visit The Partridge twice a week. The staff are very welcoming to my clients, as are the other customers. This pub offers good food at affordable prices, and they also have a nice selection of beer. Additionally, they have a decently sized car park available.

four of us visited today after a long dog walk and were not disappointed. outdoor area pleasant with covered and open garden areas. personal very friendly and attentive. good selection of pub food favorites and those we had were well presented, looked good and...tasteful. good selection of real ale, can not go wrong with dark star and Harvey’s! great value for money and pleasant experience.

I came here for lunch with my cousin. It's typical pub grub, done very well. I think the last time I came here was for a wake, so it was nice to come for a more cheerful occasion. We both had the scampi chips,...and both enjoyed it. The meal was very well cooked. I normally send the chips back if they have been salted by the chef, but at least these only had a pinch of sea salt. which was just about bearable for anyone like myself that does not like the taste of salt. I would definitely eat here again. Speisekarte ansehen

Visited with a group at lunchtime. On the face of it a slightly down at heel traditional village pub serving standard pub food. Fish n Chips, Sausage and Mash, Chilli and burgers. Bare floor boards, even a kick rail around the bar, mismatched furniture. A...real pub in fact. What makes up for the decor is the service and the quality of the food both of which are a step above the norm. We enjoyed a variety of dishes, all were of a very high quality and served efficiently and happily. The variety of local beers are well kept.

No longer owned by Dark Star but their beers are still represented alongside other well kept others such as Hophead and Harveys. Reasonable choice of lagers also. Two bars, public for drinking locals with Sky TV and saloon not plush enough to be called lounge ...somewhat barn like but with a real fire one end. Most friendly efficient lady doing most of the work. Good choice of basic pub food, certainly inexpensive. Small car park, a bit tricky in the dark but other places to park nearby if full. Definitely not a gastro pub but one of the last bastions of a traditional village pub in the area.

"My mother and I had been following the Masterchef Pro comp ' last year and were really keen to sample some of the winner, Tom Hamblet 's, food. We travelled a 4 hour round trip for the experience. We don 't eat at fine dining restaurants often but we are foodies. Firstly, the setting of the restaurant is very lavish and comfortable with warm low lighting. That said, the dinner experience was a little too dark for my mother so that 's something to think about if you struggle with eyesight and low lighting. The service was friendly, attentive and speedy/efficient. The food: I 'll start with the dessert because that was a real pleasure for us. We both loved the flavours of Tom 's end of series winning dessert so the meal ended on a high (we ordered the Olive Oil sponge with lemon curd). I recommend not ruining your palette with the overly sweet petit four that are placed in front of you following dessert unfortunately ours were more sugar flavoured than any other identifiable flavour. Our starters and mains were very VERY underwhelming. They arrived looking beautiful, neat and tidy but failed to deliver on taste. I had wanted the celeriac themed starter but the waiting staff told me the vegan/veggie starters and mains were created by their head chef and not Tom. That was disappointing as his 3 month residency was the reason we 'd visited the restaurant. We ended up both having the lobster starters after the waiting staff recommended it highly as either a starter or an additional dish to share. The claw meat was minimal and tough and the foam mousse took centre stage on the plate. Whilst the plate had lots of textures to it, we felt it was unbalanced and generally with no 'wow ' to it. We enjoyed the coffee and rye bread with butter and pollen/fennel that came prior to this thought. I ordered the Guinea Fowl as a main after the waiter described it as a gamey, dark and tender meat. I feel like a better description to someone that hasn 't had guinea fowl before would be 'it 's like a chicken breast with a different flavour '. This is what arrived in front of me and I actually found it was quite dry and not dark at all! I would never have ordered anything that resembled chicken breast anyway so I felt ill informed about my choice. I also thought the girolles were overwhelmingly tart. I didn 't enjoy my main. Mum 's Hogget was nice but average for her too. Last comment I 've never in my life paid £6.50 for less than 1.5ltrs mineral water beware! I don 't care how much money you have it 's water!!!"

"Service: 11/10 Starter: Calamari Duck Parfait - 10/10 Main Course 1: 50-Day Aged Fillet Mignon with Bordelaise Sauce (cooked *Blue*) - 100/10 Main Course 2: Fish and Chips - 9/10 Dessert: Hot Brownie - Over 9000! I want to extend my thanks to the front-of-house team for their warm welcome. Although we arrived a bit late, they were incredibly accommodating. Special thanks to Irvana (I hope I spelled that correctly) for providing excellent service! My steak experience took me on a nostalgic journey—like Anton Ego savoring his ratatouille in Gusto’s restaurant. It reminded me of a family meal in Holland during my childhood, where I had my first real steak. This may have even surpassed that memory! I was initially hesitant about dining at Miller and Carter since it's a chain restaurant, but if you're feeling the same way, let me assure you: don't be. While it may not be the cheapest option, it definitely deserves a smart-casual dress code that anyone who understands proper dining etiquette should respect. Curious, I browsed through other reviews, and I found it hard to believe anyone could leave a 1-star review without sounding like a “Karen.” It’s important to take reviews with a grain of salt—this is truly a fantastic restaurant! In summary, if you're a fan of steak, this place will take great care of you and provide excellent recommendations for how to enjoy your meal just the way you like it. Perfect!"
