"This year we celebrated a truly special anniversary. It involved a beautiful card from the Queen. Due to restrictions we couldn’t hold a party or reception. To say we were sad and disappointed didn’t get near how we felt. Then we had a brainwave. Speak to Dan and Mark and go from there…. That was the beginning of plans that resulted in a perfect romantic evening. Our special celebration had to include the boat. Dan said the boat would definitely be part of our celebration. We had no idea what they had in mind but were more than happy to leave it in their capable hands. We chose a starter and dessert and Dan and chef liaised on the main course. A fabulous Sea Bass. Heaven on a plate. Our starter was chicken liver parfait and desert chocolate and raspberry torte with Tonka bean ice cream. The starter and dessert were served on slates. They looked wonderful and frankly, if served on a plate, it wouldn’t have been right. Our Daughter and her partner came for the weekend to celebrate our special event. We dressed for the occasion and set off for the Port Royal. OMG. We were blown away by the sooo special dining area with the boat the star. We all loved it. Carol and Mark had been very busy. The boat was decorated with fabric and flowers from Carol’s garden. There was a beautiful vase of flowers and the table was laid with beautiful white linen, shining cutlery and gleaming glassware. We were all impressed. It was an emotional moment. We began with bubbles and then the food arrived. We were all in agreement, it was a fantastic dinner, an evening filled with atmosphere and love and it could not have been better or more perfect. Thanks are not enough but here goes… Dan, you patiently listened to what we hoped for. Mark, as always so understanding and Carole, always smiling and so friendly. You are all stars. Chef the Sea Bass was a triumph. So to each of you and all at the Port Royal THANK YOU . Without you and your efforts we wouldn’t have the wonderful memories we made that night. We ordered red and white wine and both were awful. The service was even worse because the man behind the bar was very rude saying that there is nothing wrong with the wine. We strongly not recommend that pub.

Came here with my partner for Sunday lunch and were so impressed by the food quality and customer service. The gentleman behind the bar and woman that brought us our food were delightful. Just an all round good experience.

Good food, excellent service reasonably priced menu, most things are sourced locally. Staff are very pleasant and helpful. The only thing on the downside for me personally would be that I prefer my food served on a plate and not on a piece of slate Speisekarte ansehen

If you are considering going for the ham egg and chips I wouldn’t bother as you’d need to order 2 of them. For £13 it’s a complete disgrace. Over priced for what I’d say is just basic supermarket ham and for the 10 chips you get with it you will be greatly disappointed

Not the most welcoming of pubs. We ordered the Sunday roasts, one gammon and one beef. The meat in both dinners was lovely, however the roast potatoes weren’t really roasted and looked pale and unappetising. The food was warm, but not hot. No one asked how our food was and the atmosphere in general was lacking.

Had our wedding reception here yesterday and was absolutely amazing. The staff are so lovely and nothing is too much trouble. The absolutely spoiled us, the food and drink was fabulous and it was so reasonable and fantastic value for money. If you are looking for a venue to celebrate I would absolutely recommend this venue. The weather was a bit rubbish but it didn't matter as inside the table decorations and the atmosphere for the area we were in was just lovely. Used to come to this pub all the time when we lived in topsham, we would walk, now moved abit further and not been since lockdown. We decided as the food was so good we would visit. What a disappointment. The Sunday menu was dreadful, ham, egg and chips, some quinoa burger , salt n pepper chicken or some beef roast!!!! That was it. This place used to have a fantastic menu and did the best ploughman’s and fish n chips in Exeter, what’s happened. Used to be run by the loveliest friendliest Italian landlord who has disappeared, either deceased or retired? No one was eating at all which says something.plus good only served 12-3 what’s that about in a busy location like the quay, you are going to...

After a long walk alongside the river stopped at this pleasant looking pub near the river and took a seat (damp no cushions) on a bench outside. Went into the (empty) pub and bought a glass of wine which I carried outside myself for my guest. I then poured some cider vinegar water from my picnic bottle into a plastic mug for myself. It is part of a recuperative diet and not I suspect something available in pubs in general. Perhaps I should have first asked if it was and if I could drink a glass of my own. Next moment the man who served me in the pub stormed out complaining and saying I had to leave his pub. I apologised and said I would wait to drink from my mug until we left, when my guest...
