"this is a beautiful pub, really nice atmosphere and great staff. the meal times for carnivores) are excellent and the hand cut clobig chips amazing. However, I am on a 4 review as we have a vegan in our party and the one choice falafel and salat) was very bad and overpriced compared to our meal times. it's such a shame that this pub was excellent in all other respects and for our party the fact that there were no better vegan options would prevent us from eating there again as a group."

"The impression driving in is of a very well maintained property and that favourable view is re inforced by a very welcoming staff despite their being very busy! The bar is well stocked and there are some good cocktails available at reasonable prices. There is a very good wine list to suit all pockets and with most tastes covered. They have some rarer mid priced wines and it is well worth asking for advice on the best combinations for some of their dishes. Someone knows what they are doing here! Be aware that the dining room décor is a little unusual especially compared to the rest of the hotel but that 's part of the fun! Starters were well received. If you can make soup of the day (tomato) interesting you are doing something right, the salmon was really top notch and the beetroot salad high quality. I had the fillet steak, this is something which is actually quite difficult to get right and very easy to get wrong. It was perfect. One of our guests had the venison. I am afraid this was a little disappointing, it didn 't seem to have been rested, there was a lot of stuff on the plate which didn 't seem to add much and the sauce was insipid. I wasn 't send back but it was a bit below par, My wife and our other guest had the chicken. The core dish was absolutely perfect but again it was slightly marred by extraneous additions particularly some rather tasteless chicken nuggets. Side dishes were good and just the right quantities. The puddings were to die for. For all courses the portions were very substantial! Service was top class. We took coffee in the bar. There is so much going for this place, nice venue, superb people, a really good wine list and menu but perhaps with some of the dishes someone is trying too hard when frankly there is no need. This may seem to be picky but if you are at 95% you may as well aim to get to 100%. We will return, it 's a great place."

"My stay here was overall very nice. I was impressed even before setting foot in George Hotel. I got a phone call to inform me that the hot water was not working, they provided me with two options, I could either get a full refund and find elsewhere to stay or if I stayed I could have a free 3 course meal, a free breakfast and also got offered a glass of wine to be put into my room (I don't drink so got given some cans of coke fresh out of the fridge on my arrival! . The staff were all super welcoming and helpful. I had a single room. The room was lovely and warm and I initially felt like it had everything I could possibly need for a night of sleep. The room certainly needs a good update though. I feel like it wouldn't hurt or be too costly to update the carpets or to re plaster the ceilings etc. The bathroom was also a little old too but it was fine. The location was lovely my view was of the River Tyne surrounded my nature and I could see the lovely bridge to the right. The hotel is situated next to a roundabout but it was quiet enough as it is not a busy area. The breakfast was very nice and the restaurant also looks out onto the river which is a lovely peaceful setting to have breakfast at. I would certainly stay here again the hotel seemed very popular with those exploring hadrians wall."

"we went to an important birthday and that was a really great place to go for a big celebration. it was a sixteen cursor menu, which largely consists of a series of really attractive and tasty snacks, several not more than a few mouthfuls. the wine pairings were excellent and worked very well with eating. we really felt looked around how they fed us after curs. the atmosphere was really relaxed, highly polished, but not ostentatious. the personal was really friendly and was very well informed about every cure as it was made and could answer those we had how they were made so delicious! the breakfast next morning was amazing, a real smorgasbord. we would go back in a heartbeat!"

"This restaurant has a lovely location and a great menu. The service is friendly and comes with a nice sense of humor. The food and drinks are really delicious; I had the meat pie, which was generously filled with meat, accompanied by a boat of gravy and some vegetables. The dessert was excellent as well. Overall, I would rate the service a 5 and the location a 5. Hotel highlights include a fantastic view, a romantic atmosphere, being kid-friendly, and offering great value."
