The Royal Oak - Speisekarte

We had a great meal that was both very tasty and with fresh ingredients. The service was excellent and in a very safe environment keeping strictly to Covid guidance. The staff have gone out of their way to ensure safety so well worth trying to support them.

We were looking for Lunch on Friday, and thought we might have to drive to Newark. Having spotted lights on we thought to have a look, but we only saw boards outside offering Take Away food. As the Car Park too looked crowded for a Take Away, we got out and went inside to discover a great place to eat.

Just had a fantastic meal at the royal oak, the staff are so friendly especially Tye who brought our meal, he was very attentive and pleasant, I had the lamb it was cooked to perfection, my parents had the fish which was so tasty, the children had pasta and loved it , I can highly recommend the food and the staff are awesome,

despite the comments I have read on here I opted for the lamb. I have been fortunate enough to eat in some of the best restaurants across Europe but the food I ate this evening would be the best of my life. The pigeon beast was cooked to perfection and the lamb I was offered was simply heavenly. The best supper I have ever eaten. I will be returning very soon.

We stuck our head in as been told it it’s new management company and there was music. Knowing the history of this venue of late and the farcical that’s been running we was pleasantly surprised. Frankie the new landlord was inviting, encouraging and very welcoming for a man that stands at 6ft plus !! What an atmosphere that’s all we can say as it’s been lacking this for a long time ! So we are converted and will be returning as this is what a pub a should be

I don’t know where Tim R from Birmingham visited and neither did he, having submitting the same review for 2 pubs The Royal Oak and the Grey Horse in Collingham which has been closed for over 12 months!! But it couldn’t have been the Royal Oak!!!We visited the Oak tonight for a meal and drinks and as usual we we’re welcomed enthusiastically by Stuart and his staff who couldn’t be faulted, Covid measures are in place and made feel very safe, the food and drinks are highly recommended.

This was our first visit here at the Royal Oak and we were very disappointed with the service and the meal. When our meals arrived We were asked if there was ‘anything else we required’ and our response was “cutlery, would be good”.The chunky fries and side salad were great! My partners lamb was slimy and chewy. I had opted for the sirloin at £21 as I’m not keen on fatty steaks, and I’m happy to pay for a good of cut of meat. Part of the steak was covered by the salad and fries.As I cut the first slice it was a little grisly but the next couple of slices were good. We came in for the pie and pint night, before we had even gotten our drinks we were passed between two members of staff. We asked to see a menu and were told that’s fine as they only had one other table. When I enquired about a vegetarian option for the deal I was told there wasn’t one and so I asked for a normal menu. We then proceeded to find our own seats as the bar man had to serve someone else. That’s all fine. We went to sit at a table in the bar and then proceeded to order and pay at the bar before the food got here. The pub looks great (although in fairness it looked ok before! and the ‘dining room’ is now more of a cosy comfortable room with a piano, armchairs and a settee but sadly this cuts down on the dining tables and the few that are left are mostly wedged in so that once you’re in, you won’t be moving. Except you have to struggle back up again because the table service has gone and you now have to order and pay for your food at the bar. I really hate paying for my food before I’ve even tasted it and when there’s a group of you out for a meal it’s much easier to have a tab and settle up at the end of the meal Instead of having to squeeze in and out from the table to get another drink.
