"if you want to eat authentic delicious Italian cuisine, then this is the perfect place marenghi’s restaurant is one of these hidden gems in newport and once they have discovered it and eating it they tasted sure they return. I and my family have booked a buffet for 12 of us on a Saturday night. they are just a small restaurant, which is housed for about 40 people and in which usually does not remain open in the evening, if they book nothing else, so we had the whole place for ourselves! it was like we had our own private kitchen and mario and his staff made us feel very welcome and comfortable! I come from an Italian family and we were all with eating authentic Italian foods, so it is always difficult to search Italian restaurants that we actually rate very for its authenticity. nothing beats Italian home kitchen! but merenghis Italian coffee shop was the first time we were all super impressed. it was like eating in a small family-run restaurant in Italy. he served dishes that they do not even see in other Italian restaurants. not unusual as they expect in the rule of Italian restaurants in this country, but authentic, super tasty and true for the southern style of Italian cuisine! they must try this place if they have a passion for Italian food."

"After a feast of meat at Xmas what better way to kick start the New Year than with a Baked Dover Sole at The Gate with green beans and dauphinoise potatoes with a small pot of Tartare Sauce. The fish was cooked to perfection , so succulent and fell of the bone easily enabling you to easily digest the white fish. The Bread Board contained warm bread that smelled and tasted as if a Bakery was operating next to the Kitchen as it was that fresh. A delicious light dish accompanied by a large glass of crisp Chardonnay a perfect match for a very enjoyable evening. If you want cheering up after the tales of woe emanating from 24/7 news of doom and gloom re pandemic , our politicians behaving like children and Mr Putin threatening World Peace in view of the possibility of Russia invading Ukraine then go to The Gate where you will receive quality cooking at very reasonable prices. Recommended."

"Absolutely recommend this restaurant. Had a date night with my Mr, on Saturday. Food was cooked to perfection very tasty. The presentation was great. Portion sizes were brilliant. Staff owner are all very welcoming knowledgeable. The decor is up to great standard. Cleanliness is of a high standard. Pleasant music mix playing in the background, not too loud.Go give this Turkish owned, newly opened rrsa try. "I had a delicious brie and cranberry toastie and, my husband thought the goat curry was lush ! Jason and his team made the most gorgeous cake and cupcakes for my husband. Light, fluffy victoria sponge, covered in a beautiful tasty buttercream, yum! Food, service, garden all wonderful"
