"During a peaceful stroll around the grounds of the old St. Catherine's Hospital in Balby, Doncaster, we stumbled upon this charming cafe. Rebranded as the Flourish Cafe, it is nestled next to the walled garden. Recently renovated, the cafe is impeccably clean and beautifully decorated. Guests can choose to dine indoors or in one of the many outdoor seating areas; we opted for the courtyard to escape the hot sun and enjoy a cool breeze. The fresh salad sandwiches were served on soft, delicious bread, and the latte was perfect. The prices were very reasonable at £11 for 2 sandwiches, 2 crisps, and 2 drinks. The staff were friendly and courteous, and we were amazed to find such a gem just 10 minutes from home. A wonderful retreat that we will definitely visit again - 10/10."

Great, reasonably-priced food. In the summer, it 's nice to sit outside on the terrace which overlooks the old walled-garden of the big house.

I came here to have brunch for a business meeting, I had a hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows which was lovely and a toasted tea cake which was also very nice! Not a bad price either and a good variety of things to choose from.

I was incredibly impressed by the beauty of this restaurant. The food selection was excellent and there were so many lovely seating options, both indoors and outdoors. It is conveniently located just 5 minutes off the A1 highway. Much better than stopping at a rest stop.

A very warm welcome to the tea rooms this afternoon. I just had a pot of tea and a toasted tea cake both of which were perfect. Staff very jolly and busy. I will be back with partner for a proper lunch. By the way Tripadvisor the pictures are very out of date, it looks more modern now.

This is hardly a place where you could stumble upon it. It is in the grounds of St Catherines Hospital. The menu is well displayed, the food is genuinely good and served by people who seem to care very much about what they do. It is well worth a visit. It is quieter on a weekend when hospital staff are not working.

I came here for a business meeting and found it to be the perfect location, lovely surroundings and the tea room was open and spacious. I could see there were other meetings taking place here too. I had a scone with jam and cream which was lovely and a bottle of dandelion and burdock. Only thing I would say is it would have been a nice touch to be given some ice with my drink to keep it cool on a warm day!

A big thank you to Kaye and the team at the Victorian Tea Rooms (cafe flourish for the beautiful food for my daughter in law's baby shower this afternoon. Had a room to ourselves in the old library in st Catherine's house. The sandwiches were plentiful with lots of choice. The Scones, Victoria Sponge, and brownies were delicious all home made. Would definately recommend and will be back to the tea rooms to sample some of the other cakes.

I went to this restaurant for afternoon tea today with a friend. We stayed for two hours and were pleasantly surprised by the attentive staff who frequently checked to see if we needed anything else. The sandwiches were delicious and there was a good variety to choose from. I appreciated that the selection of cakes was not overwhelming. Despite staying for a long time, we never felt like we were inconveniencing anyone. Overall, it was a great experience and I will definitely be returning.

"The welcome we received was pleasant, although not very personal, and our details were not checked, which was surprising considering how difficult it was to secure a reservation. The restaurant is not licensed, so guests are welcome to bring their own drinks. My husband and I brought two bottles of champagne, but we were not offered an ice bucket and were given standard wine glasses instead of flutes. The food was served promptly, starting with an amuse bouche of butternut squash veloute with a creamy accompaniment served in egg boxes. The chef explained the dish himself, and it was delicious. The second course, an aged rice dish reminiscent of a soupy risotto flavored with parmesan and espresso, was my least favorite. I found it poorly presented and the coffee flavor didn't come through well. The third course, a beautifully cooked lamb cutlet finished on a barbecue outside, was accompanied by flavorful lentils. However, the broccoli that came with it was plain and could have used some additional flavor. The dish was not explained to us. The fourth dish, which I initially thought was eel, turned out to be smoked eel and was served with beetroot. This was one of my favorite dishes of the night. We were served two desserts: a warm chocolate foam with orange sorbet and a deconstructed rhubarb custard with pink meringue pieces, both of which were delicious. The bill was not presented to us, so we followed the lead of other guests who left cash on the table as they left. My husband had a nice chat with the chef, and I joined in after a visit to the restroom. The chef was very knowledgeable and skilled with flavors. Overall, I was a bit disappointed by the lack of personality in presenting and explaining each dish. The experience felt somewhat impersonal and lacked interest. I believe guest interaction is crucial, so my tip would be for the restaurant to take the time to engage with guests, even if it means spending less time in the kitchen. I did not give a perfect score due to the presentation and slightly underwhelming flavors in some dishes. I believe that in fine dining, every element of the dish should be bursting with flavor. Despite this, we had an enjoyable evening and would return if we are able to secure a reservation."
