"I don't normally do reviews, but this place was a disaster. We went in with a group of 6. They can't split checks so we sat as 2 tables of 3. Table 1 ordered and they sent it to the kitchen. The waitress came back and took Table 2's order. Table 1 had ordered a couple starters. Table 2's food showed up quickly and we insisted they eat without us. They finished their meal while Table 1 sat with no food. About 30 minutes after we ordered our starters showed up. Then another 20 minutes past with nothing. We ran out of time and asked to have our meals boxed. That took another 10 minutes. The place seems to be run by a bunch of teenagers and I'm sure they were just punishing us for asking to split the ticket. Plus, they were fairly rude about the whole situation. This is a huge shame because last year we ate here with no issues and convinced our friends to go with us this time. Never again."

"We visited Helgis twice. On our first visit, everything went smoothly. I enjoyed a delicious bowl of vegan soup of the day and a vegan burger. The service was satisfactory, although they accidentally brought us a pint of beer instead of a pot of tea. However, our second visit was less pleasant. There were two servers who ignored us for about five minutes, despite the pub being nearly empty. After they disappeared from sight, one server eventually approached us after ten minutes to ask what we wanted to drink. We mentioned that we were also interested in having something to eat (this was at 9 PM). At that point, they informed us that the kitchen closed at 9 PM, which I think should have been communicated to us sooner. If we had known earlier, we could have opted to go somewhere else."

"March 12th, a bitterly cold evening and the warmth of the reception and the elegant dining room instantly warmed us up. Quickly served drinks and menus to browse in the cosy, friendly ambience helped us relax. The menu is creative and inviting. We were dining late and had a selection of starters and the lamb dish. The smoked haddock risotto was exceptional and the slow cooked lamb was delicious too. We couldn't resist the desert menu and found the baked cheesecake and pecan pie to be a perfect end to the dinner.We have enjoyed The Shore's consistently high quality dishes many times now and this was another gold star dinner.Food, environment, service all excellent- Thanks once again!"

"This restaurant is always bustling, and for good reason! The service is both friendly and efficient, making for a really enjoyable dining experience. My partner tried the creamy mushroom soup and declared it excellent. He also had the Monte Cristo, which features freshly toasted bread with honey-roasted shredded ham and Orkney cheese—definitely something I was envious of, but being lactose intolerant, I had to pass! I opted for the avocado toast, which was delightful, and I highly recommend the extra garlic mushrooms—absolutely amazing! Plus, they offered milk alternatives for those of us with dietary restrictions. Just a heads up: I found allergen information on an old Facebook post since it’s not listed on the menus."

"My wife and I were here in Kirkwall on a tour of the Scottish Highlands and needed to find a nice place for dinner. Dil Se seemed like a good possibility for a couple of reasons: it was convenient to our hotel and we love Indian food. With its bright exterior, Dil Se was very easy to find. We were welcomed as soon as we stepped through the door. The atmosphere was authentic and relaxing. You have to admire the logical way in which their menu is organized. There are the usual sections categorized by Tandoori and Biryani dishes. Then, there is a section for special Balti dishes. Following are separate categories for mild dishes, medium dishes, hot dishes, and traditional curry dishes. The variety of choices was totally amazing and it was a challenge to come to a decision but we finally selected Lamb Tikka Chasni and Tandoori Mixed Shashleek as our choices accompanied by lemon rice and garlic naan. As soon as we tasted our entrees, we knew we had made the right decision in choosing Dil Se. Our food was perfectly prepared and the portions were just right. It was truly a memorable meal.
