Amazing food. Great selection of vegan dishes. Friendly service. Beautiful building and a handy location if staying at the campsite up the road. The shovel and spade cutlery for dessert were fabulous. Service: 5 Location: 5

Small room, but comfortable and cosy. Nice breakfast (had the veggie version), but not very hot, which was disappointing as you had to order it in advance the previous evening, and specify exactly what time you wanted it. The most disappointing thing was that evening dinner finished at 8pm (so I couldn't get anything to eat) and the bar closed at 8.30pm. Handy location and the place is clean and welcoming. We were served by a lady who had a slightly too pushy manner and we felt 'on the clock '. The curry was fine but the rest was just meh. Oven chips for pete 's sake, an absolute no-no if you intend serving good food. £16-20 for a main if it is fresh but reheated steak pie with oven chips no. Desserts were £8 quid odd as well so we left those. 3 mains, 1 kids meal, 1 beer and 3 soft drinks for £68. It was ok hence the 3 stars but it is obviously a passing trade place being by the A66. When my car broke down on the A66 this weekend in the dark, with the RAC hours away! The Troutbeck Inn turned a bad experience into a good one. They could not have been friendlier or more helpful, rallied the support of the local community to help get my car off the main road, made a room available, and generally could not have been more supportive. Sometimes the kindness of strangers can make a real difference, and this was one of those times. Thanks again. Hope to visit again in less challenging circumstances! This review is strictly about the stay above the Inn only. Unfortunately we have not had a great stay and would not recommend booking here either. We’ve stayed from Tuesday to Wednesday and been informed ahead about the Inn being shut on these days so self check in is required which wasn’t a problem. Check in time is at 4pm but you’re advised to fill in your “breakfast forms” and drop them in before 9pm which retains you to a 5hr check in window which is worth keeping in mind if you’re getting there late. Picking up the keys and locating the Inn overall was easy. However, we were met with a stone cold room with no heating. After spending 10mins there our fingers were so cold it was hard to p...
