"Visited for a weekday lunch for our anniversary. The conservatory was half full and wound up around 3/4 full later on, I have seen some reviews that mentioned service but at this level of capacity the service was perfect. Everyone we spoke to was kind, friendly and passionate about the food and wine. We took recommendations from the sommelier for wines and our server for some of our dishes and we were impressed with all of them. Everything we ate was delicious and we sampled A LOT of the menu (3 small dishes, 2 starters, a main and 2 sides) and were impressed with everything. Even ingredients I would usually avoid as I don’t love them were impressive. I didn’t think I fancied any of the desserts but given how impressed we were with the other dishes we took a punt on the tapioca pudding and piggy fours, despite not being fans of two of the ingredients, again, all were delicious. It isn’t a cheap lunch out but perfect for a special occasion. A lovely setting, attentive staff and delicious food."

"To be clear this is in relation to the restaurant of the hotel not the hotel itself as we only popped in for cocktails and dinner. G&T was superb (but then again it should be) but the Champagne cocktail tastes odd until we noticed that the bottom of the glass was laced with undissolved sugar. When I went to the bar to mention this, I was told it was a sugar syrup (clearly wasn’t or it would be dissolved) and was handed the tab for the drinks to settle. Food however was another story, the Nibbles of Smoked Mackerel Choux buns and Pork Belly bites were outstanding, followed by their Scallops and Cheese Croquettes for starters. Also exceptional. The main course let it down a bit, with the Stonebass Special being a bit sad (dry dauphinois and sadly very little of the crab velouté which was a catalyst for ordering) however the veg were really taken care of. Other half had the ribeye which was beautifully cooked. Dining room feels a bit confused with mismatching lamps, tired paint and very dark considering it’s the middle of summer, but taste is personal. Restaurant staff were delightful (Kate in particular) but was not a fan of the burly barman with the tattoos on his arms who was in trousers two sizes too small for him, that somehow managed to make a sugar syrup where the sugar doesn’t dissolve."

"Not been in the area long so rely on web page reviews. Wanted somewhere local and cosy for my husbands birthday so chose to try the Fleur-de-Lys. We were not disappointed, the staff are really helpful and friendly and the food is to die for! Best liver I’ve ever had in a restaurant Owner is a very charming guy, and if he reads this all I can say is “much better than the Muddy Duck”. We will be back."

"We recently hosted our Mum’s 60th birthday party at Rosie Lea’s and it was incredible. From the first meeting with Mikey all the way through to the evening of, with Rachel, Steve, Chloe and Lizzy, we were so well looked after. We had the party in the heated decked marquee in the garden and even in October it was lovely and warm. The atmosphere was perfect and we were able to use and move around the space as we wished which was plenty of room to accommodate 30 people. The food was delicious and the birthday cake was so beautiful. Everything was handled by the Rosie Lea’s team, we barely had to lift a finger! If you’re considering Rosie Lea’s for your next event, absolutely do it. I can’t recommend them enough."

"Just back from two nights at the Balmer Lawn Hotel. It was decorated brilliantly for Halloween I had asked for a quiet room which we received. It was very clean and good housekeeping. There wasn't any heating in the room. There appeared to be a boxed in radiator under the window, which wasn't on, and nowhere to adjust it! There was a heated rail in the bathroom, thankfully. The plug in the bath was stuck in the plughole, so we had to use a spoon to release the water after bathing. We did notify reception. The staff were all very nice and the hotel is situated in a lovely location. Although the presentation and evening meals were delicious, there was a long wait. We were told the first evening by the young lady waitress that she would not put our order through as she did not want to overload the kitchen staff. At that point, there were only five tables seated in the main restaurant. On the second evening, we ordered two cold desserts, one being ice cream. We waited thirty minutes and had not received them, so we cancelled our order. Overall, it was a nice stay."
