"How upsetting.....then again, had my doubts. We ordered a Chinese take away, not for the first time, from Lucky House. Allow me walk you through my experience. The last time we ordered some food and when I got home I was shocked. I did wonder if MSG was used and was nearly sure that it was, this time it was confirmed. I ordered ' 'chicken in satay sauce ' ' .. what do you expect? A thick, nutty, tasty sauce.... Alas! Once again sweet and sour sauce...with the complete lack of peanuts : I was upset, but not surprised. Allow me to explain. About a year ago we got our first take out from LH. As I grew up surrounded by many different cultures, I was sooooo disappointed. I told my other half that the food was awful and that it all tasted like sweet and sour sauce. I was informed by neighbours and others that lived nearby, that I had probably just had a bad experience, however, I know what effects MSG gives also, how can five dishes taste the same? Impossible! That said, their chicken and prawn balls are lovely!! Ohh, in case you are wondering, I did call back to complain this last time...I asked why the chicken satay didn 't have peanuts in it....she said ' 'chicken satay with satay sauce ' ' then I asked ' 'why does the chicken satay I bought taste of sweet and sour sauce? ' ' she said ' 'chicken sweet and sour with sweet and sour sauce ' '. Soooo as I got nowhere and I just said ' 'how about using some peanuts with your satay sauce and don 't use any MSG? ' ' In the end I had a delicious meal of cheese on toast!!! :"

"Before I get into it, the food tasted good. However. One time I visited the KFC in the town centre and ordered a burger. After an extensive wait for fast food I sat down and finally began to eat. When I opened my burger box there was no top bun, just some sad chicken on limp lettuce and the bottom half of a burger bun. When I went to get this fixed I had to queue for a further ten minutes to speak to a server, and when they did get to me a got a non committal grunt and an unwashed, ungloved cash handling hand plopped another piece of bread on top and walked away. I consider my experience at peace and plenty to be roughly equal. It took a long time to order. It took an eternity for the food to actually arrive. I will concede there was a table of ten getting their food in between those two, but as literally the only other table I do not consider the wait times to be justified. During the wait there was no music, no atmosphere, and a general air of just no-one being bothered. We ordered some drinks about 5 minutes before the food arrived. We did ask for them again as people were finishing their meals. The wine arrived pretty sharply at that point but the two cokes did not arrive until after everyone had finished eating. Apparently they were just changing the line, but perhaps that could have been mentioned before we'd already waited 15 minutes for them and chased it up. As for the drinks, we were asked if we wanted a pint or half pint. On requesting a pint we received pint glasses with close to an inch of air at the top. This was the case for both diet and regular Coke. When receiving the bill we noticed that the cokes on the bill were 2.50 for a pint, but the cokes purchased from the bar in between were 3.00 a pint. When questioned we were fed some nonsense about bottles and draught, but at no point had it been mentioned, and every glass came the same way. Portions were small. They tasted fine, but for the prices on the menu there was less than there should be. We had some vouchers that made them reasonable for the end price, but at full price I'd have been annoyed. The vouchers were mentioned when ordering, but not applied to the bill before it was sent to us, so that should have no bearing. I wouldn't say the staff were rude as such, but they seemed very uninterested and made no effort to interact, aside from one (ginger? lad who brought some drinks to us from the bar and actually seemed to give a damn. The evening was topped off with a tremendous fart from one of the staff. I know these things happen but it really did seal the deal for us. Overall, would not recommend."

"What a fabulous place, off the beaten track but well worth going. My MiL recently won an afternoon tea for two voucher for here, so we booked for Sunday afternoon. On arrival we were directed into a parking spot overlooking the surrounding beautiful countryside, then...guided into the house through a flowered courtyard. Once shown to our table we took in the homely decor, very clean immaculate. We both asked for tea it came in a teapot with an old fashioned tea strainer, our delights started arriving first was a warmed yorkshire pudding (the size of my fist) filled with succulent pieces of beef in rich gravy. Then followed the savoury platter, top tier filo baskets filled with a traditional prawn cocktail, second tier was two sausage rolls 2 squares of cheese quiche, the bottom tier had a round or sandwiches each with fillings of egg, ham mustard salmon. You then have time for that to settle while you chat drink more tea, Then out came small glasses of mango passion fruit sorbet to cleanse your palate. After another few minutes a fresh pot of tea, we were brought a dish of warm scones with homemade strawberry jam fresh whipped cream, followed shortly after by a teo tier stand of sweet treats. Top tier was meringues filled with cream, chocolate brownies Bottom tier was strawberry turnovers, raspberry oysters lemon drizzle cake. tea was offered but we politely declined as we were so full. An excellent experience was had by both of us we plan to return again soon with Friends. They also do B&B as well as studio apartments that sleeps up to 4 people."

"I have been to the lowther arms many times and the food has always been good, a nice cozy little pub with plenty of choice. We were out celebrating my grandmas birthday and my aunty had just been given the all clear from cancer..We opened the door and instead of being greeted with a friendly hello, the woman snapped have you got your masks!! We didn't have masks as we were under the impression you didnt need them when dining out ..? This has maybe changed she then proceeded to give us some blue toilet roll if we needed to walk about the pub! We asked about the specials and again she snapped there round that corner! We asked if we could sit round by the fire as my grandma was cold and we were told no its just a light on the fire its nicer round here (opposite the toilets) her attitude was that she did NOT want to be working!! I wanted to leave and go somewhere else I was so annoyed with her but we didnt want to cause a scene as we were out to celebrate. At this point I'd had enough of being spoken to like kids and decided we were going to move tables and sit were we wanted to sit. We were handed a pen and asked to complete our details name phone number etc.. my partner tried to make a joke with her about the pen being sterile as she had made such a scene the whole night, this didnt go down well. Safe to say the night was awful, no atmosphere, no music. Felt like 5 naughty children being told off constantly... and the food was totally average. There was a puddle of water on our plates off the cabbage and carrots. The staff in the lowther arms were always helpful and warm this unfortunately wasnt the case last night. I understand these are worrying times for everyone and businesses are struggling but we are all in the same boat. It's safe to say I wont be back Joe would I recommend this once lovley little pub to anyone else."
