"We had our wedding reception at The Gate Hangs Well at the end of June, and to be honest, I have to say we were disappointed overall. We were recommended the venue as we were looking for somewhere for a small gathering on a budget, so the boathouse was ideal for what we needed. We made the enquiry, and they were quick to respond to emails and provided all the information we needed they even let us have the 3 course menu and arrange for us to have beef since the regular steaks were unavailable. When we went to view the boathouse, we were advised they would be showing someone else round, so we would have to wait which we were fine with. We watched and listened in as they told the other people how they could set the room up, showed them where stuff was, generally asked them questions about their booking and even suggested they could have the piano tuned for them if they wanted to use it. When they left and it was our turn to view, we were told this is it , and we were left to ask questions about set up, etc as the information wasn 't volunteered. Still, we continued with the booking (and stayed for food after the viewing). We were told to take anything we wanted setting up the night before and to leave it with them because they had another event which we did. We also asked if they had candles for the table which they said they did and would include in the set up. Again, the night before our wedding, we had another meal there with the majority of our party. On the day of my wedding, I turned up to the venue and everything I left the night before was exactly where I put it. ON MY WEDDING DAY, while the rest of the party sat outside enjoying the day, I set up my own wedding reception... I found the candles in the windows but they didn 't have anything to light them with. I went into the toilet to take my makeup off and the young lady that was looking after us asked if I was ok because she thought I was crying. I 'm not sure of the young ladies name (dark hair) but she was the only one that seemed to care. We hope she got the flowers we left for her and that they weren 't kept by the other lady. To add insult to injury, the follow up email after the reception had someone else 's name on it! We wouldn 't recommend this venue based on our experience. I believe someone else is running the pub now, so I hope the remaining team members are now providing a better service than we received. It 's a shame because it was a nice venue."

"Can I say that I use the branch at The Outwoods regularly when out walking and find it fantastic. Food is excellent and staff are great. Just visited the branch in town for coffee and a bite to eat. We ordered drinks and a portion of porridge and a bacon roll. Whilst waiting I noted that it seems chaotic behind the counter. After a few minutes I heard our server asking the young lady preparing food if our porridge had been “shouted” It clearly hadn’t and he did this using a radio. I saw food being sent back from a table outside with the customer clearly not happy and walking away. After 15 mins waiting I chased our food as it hadn’t arrived. We were told it would be with us by the server in 4 1/2 mins as he said he wanted to be accurate. I then saw a table that had arrived 10 mins after us get food including a bacon roll. I asked for a refund as this was now 20 mins and still no food had arrived. I was appalled at the reaction of staff. Instructing me that they were busy and 20 mins isn’t long to wait. The food, they said was cooked to order. Guys, it’s a bacon roll and portage not a full English!! I’m assuming this is the same at Outwoods where a bacon roll arrives in around 5 mins! This guy (beard/green t shirt) then proceeded to tell the whole cafe that he was being asked by a customer for a refund. Again stating that I had only been waiting 20mins. Not very professional. He said he would do the refund and we left. Clearly if he is honest it wasn’t the best Saturday morning with 2 complaints in 15 mins about food. The young lady looked out of her depth and cafes cannot use the excuse of being busy. They are supposed to be busy. I will continue to use The Outwoods but give the town branch a miss due to the attitude of the staff member who dealt with my request for a refund. Hopefully he can address his shortcomings in customer service. You need to be able to deal with complaints and embarrassing a customer in front of everyone in the cafe is very poor. Hope your day improves."

"We used to come here quite often for breakfast pre Covid and decided to come again as it had always been nice. We’d booked a table beforehand but it took a while for anyone to notice us to show us to our table even though there was only one person being served at the till and we’d clearly been seen by other staff. Anyway while seated it took a while for anyone to take our drinks order, surprised they didn’t take this when we sat down. On first glance at the menu was how expensive it was now, £4.25 for a large cappuccino I think is madness you wouldn’t even pay that for a Starbucks and it was nearly £3 for a single espresso. I wouldn’t have minded so much if the coffee was really good, in fact it tasted like hot milk. Obviously they have limited staff as we’re all dealing in troubling times so they don’t have as much on the menu for breakfast they have a full english, vegetarian breakfast and eggy bread. I asked if I could have eggs on toast instead but due to the limited staff they couldn’t even though I thought this would be quicker?! The food took quite a while and it was ok, like the meat and eggs are fresh which I think is why we go back there even though the fruit salad the eggy bread was served with was brown, but the service is odd and long and the prices are crazy. £10.95 for eggy bread and £11.95 for a full English? I don’t really understand them and I felt quite robbed to be honest, like I never normally look at prices and understandably were going through a pandemic but this isn’t an excuse to cash in on it, it’s a good job I wasn’t vegan and wanted alternative milk otherwise I’d have had to pay £1 more so my coffee would have been £5.25 how is that right?! For that reason I don’t think I’ll be back unfortunately."

"if i could give this place a zero i would. the food is terrible and the management do not take feed back well at all, infact i was accused of being aggressive because he did not like the things i was telling him. Starter: we ordered the butterflied king prawn. how very dissapointing. it came out looking as if it was a birdseye packet fish finger. mains: we ordered to mains both of which basically tasted the same. no individuality of spices although they where two completely different dishes. naans as expected chips again thankfully they got this right. when i gave my feed back firstly about my starter the manager admitted it was not fresh and that it was out of a packet. very dissapointed. he then argued that i should have said something which worried me even more about his attitude towards customer service. we told him there was no spices even though we asked for one of the dishes to be at a jalfrezi hot style. this was the best bit. the manager said their cooking is made bland because the english people like it...... i am not english im sikh and when i said but you know we are not english so why would you not cater towards our taste his response was you are being aggressive . could not face the fact that his food was bland hes told us they only cater towards english people who only apparently like bland food or food come out of a freezer packet. if any of my english people want authentic indian food dont bother going here. they clearly are fooling you and some of you may think that your getting great food and can handle the spices. you are wrong the only way you are handling the spices here are because there are none. best going down belgrave road to one of the many indian restaurants who will not base their cooking on the colour of your skin but will cook you what should be real indian food. now i know why this restaurant is usually empty. Aroma spice......hardly i think you should rename yourself.....NO SPICE. good bye"

"Loughborough University is in the top five of our youngest's choices. We arrived a little early to look around Lougborough itself before heading to the campus based uni. It's hard when you're in a place you have never been and see a variety of eateries with no prior planning in front of you, to choose from. We didn't want a greasy spoon, or haute cuisine and as we looked around we saw the A board outside Goodliffe's on Church Gate which looked like a possibility. The menu is also displayed outside the door and as we hovered over an unsuspecting ladies shoulder, she noticed us and recommended it highly. We took her recommendation and entered, the staff were young ladies, probably students themselves, all very pleasant, happy and jolly, they looked genuinely happy to be there which is always a good sign. Hubby had Morrocan mint and lamb koftas, Littlest Foodie had the roasted sweet potato and red pepper salad with avocado, beetroot hummus, rocket, toasted pumpkin seeds, lemon dressing . I didn't really fancy anything, no fault of Goodliffe's I may hasten to add, but I can never say no to cheese so I ordered the cheese board (dessert menu) and a side of garlic ciabatta. I'm glad I did, I was able to pick the bits I wanted and Hubby finished the rest win win! The only thing I would suggest is maybe a soft cheese like Brie instead of two hard cheeses and stilton.Needless to say if Loughborough Uni is the chosen one' we will be visiting Goodliffe's again :"
